Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 409: Chapter 212: 2000 Upper Position

All the Hungry Ghosts will be dealt with by me alone!

Chu Xiu’s words left the generals exchanging glances, each seeing doubt in the other’s eyes.

Although Chu Xiu had displayed astonishing strength, this was a tide of Hungry Ghosts!

Once they surged, they came in ten thousands, and among them were not only large Hungry Ghosts, but even humanoid upper-position Hungry Ghosts might appear!

These were terrifying creatures whose bodies were harder than steel, emerging unscathed from the center of a shell explosion, moving with phantom speed, and only a martial arts expert like Liang Zhan, who had refined Martial Dao to the pinnacle, could face them!

Even though Chu Xiu had previously exhibited astounding methods, saying he would face the Hungry Ghost tide alone left the generals in disbelief.

After all, strength was one thing, but endurance was another; even ants could eventually overwhelm an elephant.

”This person seems to know little about this place, not even the road to the frontline. He probably has never truly seen a Hungry Ghost tide, only heard it from others.”

Liang Zhan mused to himself.

At the moment, Chu Xiu’s image in his mind was that of an inexperienced ascetic, possessing powerful Buddhist Divine Techniques but unfamiliar with the situation in the outside world.

”This person’s divine techniques are astounding, which might be the source of his confidence, but no one has ever been able to stand against a Hungry Ghost tide alone, not even a reincarnated Buddha. Although he easily defeated the Third Elder, the Hungry Ghost tide is endless, and it’s uncertain if he has enough mana.”

Moreover, this tide of Hungry Ghosts, both in scale and intensity, far exceeded anything the others had ever experienced! Not even in the historical records is there mention of such dense Ghost activity, which is also why Liang Zhan was so tense.

”Whether this person is absolutely confident in himself or just blindly arrogant, I need to protect him. If he dies, no one will be able to face the repercussions from the Buddhist Sect.”

As long as Chu Xiu is alive, he can bear the responsibility for injuring the Third Elder. If he were to die, many would be implicated by him.

”First, take him to see a small passage, so he can have an idea of the terror of the Hungry Ghost tide, then decide.” Liang Zhan thought to himself.

As he was pondering, the Flying Corpse swiftly flew past the layers of defense lines, and an enormous camp appeared before them.

At the front of the camp stood rows of concrete brick walls, each twenty meters high and ten meters thick, sealing off the entire road of Giants. These walls held a large array of weapons, both modern machine guns and primitive crossbows.

Between each wall, a distance of about fifty meters was maintained, with heavy weaponry placed, including cannons, mortars, and towers with crossbow cannons mounted on top.

The walls and siege platforms were manned by a large number of soldiers who held large bows, with muscles taut, obviously possessing foundational Martial Dao strength, long-trained heavy bowmen.

There were six such walls, scarred and with newly filled breaches, indicating they had been destroyed and repaired countless times in battle.

The seventh was under construction, revealing that the forces here had not ceased to strengthen their arms for a moment, though it was still incomplete, showcasing only a general outline. Beyond the seven walls, separated by roughly three hundred meters, eighteen giant cannons engraved with intricate engravings and embedded with energy relics were neatly arranged on a piece of open land, likely the legendary Vajra Heavy Cannons.

Further back was the soldiers’ barracks.

Liang Zhan pointed to the largest building in the barracks: ”Sir, that is our frontline command center.”

Chu Xiu grunted, and the Flying Corpse rapidly descended. The massive movement alerted the soldiers below, but seeing Liang Zhan, they breathed a sigh of relief.

”General!”

”Take me to the monitoring room.”

”Yes!”

They entered a sealed room about three hundred square meters in size, with walls crammed with various screens and radar-like monitoring instruments.

”Senior, look, this is the frequency of the Hungry Ghost activities displayed here.”

”For some reason these days, the activity of the Hungry Ghosts has suddenly increased at an alarming speed, and we suspect something may have changed deep inside ’Fallen Paradise,’ which may lead to an unprecedented assault on us.”

”My advisors predict the total number of Hungry Ghosts could reach a million! Large Corpse Demon numbers in the thousands! Upper-position Corpse Demons could reach an astonishing double digits!”

With a solemn expression, Liang Zhan hoped that Chu Xiu would retreat after hearing this enormous number.

As if fearing that Chu Xiu might not understand the exact power of the Hungry Ghosts, Liang Zhan added: ”The Hungry Ghosts have astonishing physical qualities, even the most ordinary of them require several well-trained soldiers to encircle and kill, while large Hungry Ghosts must be dealt with using heavy weapons. As for upper-position Hungry Ghosts, only top martial arts experts can harm them, and such experts in our army are but a handful.”

Chu Xiu nodded, understanding the situation.

Based on the book’s descriptions, he could roughly gauge the combat level of these Abyssal Monsters.

Ordinary Hungry Ghosts should have strength akin to advanced Mortal Tier, completely overwhelming to regular people, but could still be rapidly eliminated by modern weaponry.

Large Hungry Ghosts, however, boast physical qualities close to Fierce Tier, and while lacking combat skills and techniques, could still be managed by Advanced Warrior Tier Awakened when covered by a horde of other Hungry Ghosts in the battle array, hiding that shortcoming.
