Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 403: Chapter 209: Peach Blossom Spring_3

This allows him to understand the current state as quickly as possible.

The speed at which humans transmit information through language is still too slow.

And in just a dozen seconds, Chu Xiu’s brain, which is hundreds of times more powerful than the top geniuses among ordinary people, roughly digested the content of the books and gained a general understanding of the current situation.

”This shelter is even older than I imagined, having existed for at least seven hundred years.”

According to the records in the book, hundreds of years ago, a great disaster known as the ”Apocalypse” occurred. This was due to people’s indulgence in desires, accumulating huge karmic forces, which provoked the Buddha’s wrath and led to a natural disaster.

In that disaster, almost everyone was burned to death by the Karmic Fire, with only a very few followers of the Buddha, led by the Reincarnated Saint Monk, surviving by coming to this place, which is also known as the ”only Peach Blossom Spring.”

Although this small number of people survived by luck, they were still ”sinners,” not only them but their descendants for generations carried the ”original sin” of their ancestors.

So, they must atone for their sins in this resource-poor place, which is also populated by numerous ”Hungry Ghosts.”

Only by continually listening to the teachings of the Reincarnated Saint Monk and observing the precepts day after day until all sins are redeemed can they return to the good old days.

”Isn’t this just a bastardized version of Buddhism and Christianity?” Chu Xiu found it somewhat amusing.

He guessed that the original founders of the shelter indeed mastered some Buddhist Divine Techniques, and to better control people in the shelter, they mainly adopted Buddhism, incorporating monotheistic ideas and Redemption Scrolls from other religions, creating something new.

For the following seven hundred years, the entire shelter was under such rule.

The people within the Buddhist Sect here are the absolute ruling class; they do not need to follow any precepts but instead indulge in pleasures to the fullest, calling themselves monks but indeed emperors.

Moreover, to ensure their ruling position, the people of the Buddhist Sect set up many rules to guarantee it.

For instance, only people within the Buddhist Sect can cultivate secret special inheritances, constructing a large number of Protective Dharma Artifacts, prohibiting ordinary people from developing technology, and even banning the exploration of past histories.

And if violated, one would face extreme punishments. It can be said that many of the brutal torture methods of ancient times have been preserved, and even further innovated and extended, with a very domineering and unreasonable implication mechanism.

This is also why the three were so terrified when Chu Xiu discovered they were hiding prohibited items.

Of course, Chu Xiu did not have much sympathy in his heart; instead, he found it quite advantageous.

”This kind of society structure where ignorance is instilled in the masses, and a few smart people dare not resist authority, has a very good advantage: as long as the ruling class is dealt with, the mobilization speed will be very fast, saving me quite a bit of trouble.”

Having clarity in his mind, Chu Xiu no longer fretted but turned his attention to the crisis faced by the people here.

”According to the data recorded, the main crisis here is the ’Hungry Ghosts,’ a humanoid creature with physical qualities far superior to normal humans, moving at extremely fast speeds and possessing various special abilities, making them the major enemy of the humans here.”

”To deal with the Hungry Ghosts, over the seven hundred years, humans have built three ’Guard Cities’ in succession outward from the main city of the shelter. Continuing further along the Guard City are the ’city walls,’ blocking all Hungry Ghosts outside the city walls.”

”The main city has nearly ten thousand people and is the industrial and agricultural production base. Each Guard City has a population of two to three thousand, with a higher proportion of military personnel further out, serving as key nodes for new soldier training, supply storage, and transportation.”

”As for the city walls, that’s where I am now, the frontline against the Hungry Ghosts, usually maintaining more than three thousand combat personnel.”

However, according to Chu Xiu’s experiences along the way, with the enhancement of Abyssal Power, the defensive strength of the city walls seems to be gradually weakening, and it should currently be in a shortage of both personnel and equipment.

The young man before him risked researching technology and history, not only out of his own exploration desire but likely also with the intention of enhancing front-line defensive strength.

”But since I’m here, they don’t need to worry anymore.”

”The total population here exceeds twenty thousand, more than most General Tier trial individuals. If I save all these people, the reward would surely be plentiful.”

”And what I need to do is very simple: solve the frontline issues, then contact the upper echelon of the Buddhist Sect as quickly as possible to rescue these twenty thousand people back to the Corpse Demon World.”

Chu Xiu quickly formulated a plan in his mind.

However, just as Chu Xiu was about to turn and leave, the man who had been kneeling on the ground suddenly leaped forward like a tiger, rushing to a table at Chu Xiu’s left in the blink of an eye!

In his surprised gaze, the young man pulled out a double-barreled shotgun engraved with rustic patterns and set with four white glowstones from under the table, then pulled the trigger at Chu Xiu without hesitation!

”Boom!”

The small room lit up with intense flames as two projectiles blasted out, striking Chu Xiu heavily.

”Bang! Bang!”

The projectiles turned into discs, falling off Chu Xiu.

”Clang, clang.”

The projectiles fell to the ground with a crisp sound, leaving the small room in complete silence.
