Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1337: Section 1338: Cassini’s Sigh

Aside from the black-robed figure, in this chaotic void, there was another person, quietly observing Angel from an endless distance in space and time.

At that moment, however, Angel was completely unaware.

He was still immersed in the peculiar coincidences brought about by the changing black clouds. Under such resonances, Angel felt an array of marvelous visions appear before him.

He did not know what these visions were specifically, but as they unfolded in front of him with myriad changes, accompanied by the flashes of color, halos, and patterns, Angel could not help but immerse himself in this unknown world.

The various scenes inspired many ideas in Angel, as if he was colliding knowledge with numerous scholars, sparking interesting thoughts.

Whether it was Spell Technique, Alchemy or even the application of power related to the Wilderness of Dreams, various ideas were all guided forth by these peculiar scenes.

...
Angel finally felt what it meant to have inspiration spring forth like a fountain.

He vaguely guessed that these scenes might be what Sanders had once mentioned—the Gift of Truth.

Or rather, the reward from the world consciousness.

When Greya was creating laws on Illusion Demon Island, Sanders had elaborated that this was a strange mechanism.

Because every act of law creation was an opening and challenge to a new path. The great will would obstruct all those who sought to blaze a trail, but would also reward those who succeeded in traversing it, a bizarre yet contradictory mechanism. As to why this was done, the subject was complex, and while many wizards were studying it, none had reached a universally recognized answer.

Although Angel had guessed part of the truth, he still harbored doubts.

He never thought that constructing a Witchcraft Slot would trigger a Law Creation Phenomenon. Strictly speaking, the Gate Model was not his own creation, but something the Eye of the Sky with its strange energy had instructed him to do.

If it was not a creation, why then did the reward from the world consciousness appear? Angel was still utterly baffled.

“Or is it because this Gate Model, being revealed to this world for the first time, is what caused such an event?”

The Eye of the Sky likely originated from another world, or even another universe. So, it was quite possible that this Gate Model indeed appeared in this world for the first time.

Was it exactly because it was the first appearance that it caused the Law Creation Phenomenon?

Although Angel was filled with doubts, he did not have the time to delve deep into the answers, as the most important thing at the moment was the “reward” before him.

Casting aside irrelevant thoughts, Angel fully indulged in these scenes.

As time flowed, Angel did not know how long he had indulged when he, seemingly enlightened, came back to his senses, and the marvelous visions gradually faded away.

The visions dissipated like mist, but in doing so, they lifted another layer of veil, revealing another kind of wonder behind the scenes!

“Is this… a path?!” Angel could not help but exclaim.

Countless pieces of information converged, constructing a majestic, surging path before Angel’s eyes!

The path was just an image, not actually existing, nor having a real shape of a “path.” But in Angel’s heart, this was a “path” constructed of innumerable pieces of knowledge and infinite information!

Moreover, it was very likely the very path all wizards were seeking… the path to True Knowledge!

Just as this thought flashed through Angel’s mind, the path abruptly turned into an illusion, vanishing without a trace.

However, the appearance of this path had painted a picture for him, not only showing him a prospect but also deeply imprinting itself in his heart!

…

Meanwhile, in the void, far from the Wizards’ Realm and across immense distances in space and time.

The sound of “tick-tock, tick-tock” echoed non-stop. The source of the sound was a seemingly enormous golden clock, which resembled a turntable with gears on the rim moving in sync as the hands inside turned. Each movement produced a “tick-tock” sound.

Upon this great clock, a human-shaped shadow was sitting at the top.

The shadow quietly observed the distant Southern Domain, or to be precise, the center where the Alchemy Omen had previously appeared.

After an indeterminate amount of time, the shadow suddenly let out a long sigh.

“Ah,” the shadow caressed its palm, the look in its eyes changing from impatience to restraint, eventually settling into disappointment: “It’s marked as a seed, yet I can’t make a move. It really makes one’s heart itch.”

As an entity who walked the corridors of time and space, Cassini rarely saw such a perfect seed of truth. He really wanted to steal… oh, no, to trade a ‘choice.’

At this juncture, it would be an absolutely fair trade.

However, Cassini did not act, or rather, he dared not act.

The seed of truth—Angel, although what he received this time was merely a Gift of Truth sourced from the consciousness of the Wizards’ Realm, what baffled Cassini was why the universal will was quietly observing him.

For an entity of Cassini’s level, the world consciousness was akin to the consciousness born from some continents. In a broad sense, it was a “pan-consciousness.”

But the universal will was different. Although its structure was very similar to that of the world consciousness, being an aggregation of various informational consciousness, the world consciousness generally only encompassed information from the current world.

The information aggregate of the universal will, however, included almost all known information across the Pan-Dimensional Plane. One might say it was the great will that encompassed numerous worlds.

Some wizards even called it the ultimate.

It is also the truth.

Cassini didn’t think so, he firmly believed that there were places even the main will couldn’t reach, like when he had witnessed “Augustine’s Twinborn Mirrors” in the Origin World, a mysterious object that could connect to even more distant and unknown places. Cassini believed that the world beyond the Twinborn Mirrors was where the main will struggled to extend its influence.

Although in Cassini’s eyes, the main will wasn’t what one might call the “truth.” But one thing was certain, the main will did not possess true thoughts or emotions.

It was merely a collective of informational consciousness.

However, what Cassini found strange now was that the main will seemed to be observing Angel.

Cassini had seen many prodigious talents, and even those who created laws that drew the main will’s attention and received its rewards. But it was the first time he had seen the main will employ an anthropomorphic action like “observing.”

Even if the main will didn’t do anything, neither descending nor bestowing awards, its action made Cassini somewhat apprehensive, not daring to sneak a… trade choice during this time.

By the time the main will ceased its “observation,” Angel had already awakened from the world consciousness’s reward, and Cassini perfectly missed the trading opportunity.

He could only sit atop the clock, sighing deeply.

Cassini withdrew his gaze from Angel. Although the main will’s behavior made him curious about Angel, after all, Angel was but an apprentice. Finding an opportunity for a trade was not so easy.

“Eh, a world nearing its magic’s end has actually birthed a potential seed?” Cassini’s gaze turned to a far-off and unknown place, and with a twist of his form, he vanished from the spot.

One could faintly hear a murmur: “Young man… oh, that’s not right, beautiful young lady, would you like to make a trade…?”

…

Angel opened his eyes, and in an instant, a multitude of information began to flow back.

It included the details of the witchcraft slot, the new framework of the psychic model, and even the reward previously gained from that strange spectacle, all flooding into Angel’s mind.

However, most of this information was already known, and now it had merely been refreshed.

The moment Angel opened his eyes, Popota by the campfire below noticed. He packed the Pliant Worm nest and with a few leaps, reached the top of the high cliff.

Popota approached Angel, asking in a somewhat surprised tone, “Were you… creating a law just now?”

Although Popota was quite confident in his conjecture, he still hoped to receive an affirmative answer from Angel.

Angel, still in a daze, simply nodded ambiguously, which served as a response to Popota, then he raised his head to look at the sky.

The dark clouds were still swirling, but their intensity had clearly weakened.

It seemed that the “Law Creation Phenomenon” had begun to fade.

Angel chuckled wryly, wondering if this might beat the record for the shortest Law Creation Phenomenon.

He had read many records of True Knowledge Wizards, including the phenomenon that Sumishe caused when creating a law, which lasted a long time.

The current phenomenon, however, seemed to align with an Alchemy Omen, ending as quickly as it started.

Perhaps because the primary effect of the Gate Model was quite common? After all, short-distance spatial teleportation is traceable within the Space Series of Spell Techniques.

Or perhaps, the Gate Model itself isn’t genuinely a product of his own law creation; hence the Law Creation Phenomenon was so unremarkable, and its disappearance so rapid?

Popota also noticed the disappearance of the phenomenon in the sky, recalling that at first, he hadn’t even sensed the fluctuation of an omen. He speculated that perhaps the new Spell Technique Angel created wasn’t particularly powerful.

However, for Popota, this was still astonishing.

“To be able to create a law during the apprentice stage and even cause a phenomenon, that’s already quite extraordinary.” Although Popota’s tone was consoling, these words indeed came from his heart. In his memory, he hadn’t seen any other apprentices who could induce a Law Creation Phenomenon.

Angel, however, wasn’t very concerned with the scale of the phenomenon, and he even felt quite pleased in his heart.

The less noise, the better, after all, since the Gate Model’s origin was unclear. If others were to find out, he would have to find a way to explain it.

“Let’s go,” Angel didn’t plan to linger any longer. Even if the phenomenon wasn’t large, it was possible that other Transcendents had taken notice, so it was best to leave the area sooner rather than later.

With that thought, Angel took out the Gondola and, with Popota, flew towards the direction of the Old Earth Continent.

What Angel didn’t know was that shortly after his departure from The Nameless Isle,

Jiebo’s water incarnation appeared near the isle.

The power of the Water System within the water incarnation had begun to become imbalanced, the price Jiebo paid for his forced entry.

However, to Jiebo’s dismay, he had prepared to sacrifice one water incarnation to break in, only to find that the place was deserted? Clearly, the law creator had already left.

Jiebo circled the area, only finding an extinguished campfire.

But there were no traces of pheromones left in the vicinity.

Jiebo tried to dive into the water to gather news from the aquatic creatures, but before he could re-enter the sea, the water incarnation dissipated into foam due to the energy imbalance, vanishing completely.
