7 a.m.

Red date and millet porridge, large meat buns, tea eggs, homemade cold side dishes.

A sumptuous breakfast was laid out on the dining table.

Sun Youguang pulled out a chair and clapped his hands with satisfaction.

He opened the bedroom door and said softly to his girlfriend, “Juan’er, breakfast is ready, hurry up and eat.”

Li Juan quickly put down the book in her hand, “You’ve worked hard, my dear.”

The two sat down at the dining room table, chatting while eating breakfast.

The main topic was about the exam coming up this September.

By June of this year, four years had passed since they graduated from university, fulfilling the requirements to sit for the intermediate accounting title exam.

Every day, both in the morning and evening, they found time to read books and do practice questions.

The competition in the accounting field was fierce, and if one didn’t think about self-improvement, they would be eliminated sooner or later.

Halfway through their meal, Juan’er asked in a low voice, “My dear, did you say last time that the boss is planning to expand? Does that mean you’ll be changing offices?”

She was quite worried about this.

They were currently renting in a remote neighborhood outside the West Second Ring. If the office was in the city center, it would be somewhat manageable.

But if it moved to the east side, their daily commute would be too long.

However, if they had to move, that would be a significant expenditure, not to mention the time spent looking for a new place.

“It looks like we are going to change offices,” Sun Youguang nodded, “but as of now, we don’t know where. The company’s warehouse has been settled, though, in the logistics industrial park on the East Second Ring. The transportation is convenient there, right next to the highway, and many courier companies are around.”

“Sigh, it seems we might really move to the east side. If it comes to that, we’ll just have to move,” Li Juan sighed, then perked up, “Your company offers such good pay and has profitability, it’s a very stable job. It’s worth moving for the sake of this job.”

“Let’s wait and see, nothing’s certain yet.”

These past few days, colleagues at Songmei Clothing had been discussing this matter, awaiting notice from the leadership.

The company was already recruiting, forming a new live-streaming team. According to Personnel Zhang Ying, they needed three teams, totaling dozens of people.

The current 200 square meters of office space was definitely not enough.

And with the rental level of the Cloud Stream Building, a 1000-plus square meter office area would incur too high a cost in rent, not to mention the need for outfitting live-streaming rooms and buying equipment.

So most people guessed that the move would be to slightly more remote office buildings.

After breakfast, they cleaned up the kitchen.

Li Juan pulled Sun Youguang into the bedroom and locked the door.

She said excitedly, “Come on, my dear, I just got paid yesterday, let’s count the savings in our little treasury.”

Hearing this, Sun Youguang also showed a happy smile on his face.

He had been paid last Friday; although it wasn’t a full month’s salary, with allowances and bonuses, it was more than 4000 yuan.

“Yu’E Bao 47,120, WeChat 2,318.21, China Merchant’s Bank…”

“My turn, you help me count, China Merchant’s Bank 35,671.98, Industrial and Commercial Bank 15,750.32…”

One read out the numbers, and the other did the math, finally adding up their savings together.

“Wow, we’ve already saved up 140,000 without realizing it! It’s mainly because of the severance pay you got before. With this, we’ll soon have 150,000,” Li Juan hugged her boyfriend contentedly, her face full of longing, “let’s go back to our hometown during the National Day holidays, look for houses in the county, and buy one if we find something suitable.”

“Yeah, we should schedule it,” Sun Youguang nodded vigorously, ruffling his girlfriend’s hair.

…

“Pitter-patter—pitter-patter—” Large raindrops hit the umbrella.

The sky was misty.

They boarded the bus and automatically went to the spacious standing area at the back of the bus.

The bus slowly started moving.

Sun Youguang wrapped his arm around his girlfriend’s shoulder, leaning at the window side.

Watching the residential buildings passing by outside, Sun Youguang saw longing and anticipation in his girlfriend’s eyes.

He gritted his teeth and sighed helplessly in his heart.

His girlfriend was already 26, and their wedding would likely be within the next year or two.

The only regret was that they couldn’t afford a house in Yan City.

Even for a second-hand house in their small county town, they could only afford the down payment.

The subsequent renovations would still need to be funded by their families.

As the bus entered the city proper, Juan’er patted Sun Youguang’s chest.

Her eyes sparkled as she pointed outside the window, “Look quickly! Su Yu! Su Yu!”

Sun Youguang looked up and saw on the exterior of a commercial complex a 3D animation screen displaying a concert promo video.

Grand stages, exquisite stage designs, cheering audiences…

At the end of the video, Su Yu in a pure white fashion dress stepped forward, resting her arms on the edge, waving at them.

With the 3D effects, she appeared especially lifelike and dazzling.

Other people on the bus also turned their gazes there.

Then, discussion and photography spread throughout the bus.

Many were excitedly posting on social media and TikTok.

Of course, this was just the tip of the iceberg for the upcoming event.

There was only a week left until Su Yu’s concert.

Fans from all over the country were arriving in Yan City, ‘Su Yu 2023 Concert’ trending daily.

Boosts in tourism, the hotel industry, and restaurants were noticeable.

Local cultural and travel workers were vigorously making short videos, and promotional photos and copy were common on the streets.

Due to limited ticket availability, official viewing areas outside the concert were specially arranged.

The entire Yan City was immersed in a carnival-like atmosphere.

…

As the bus slowly moved away, the 3D screen disappeared from their view.

Li Juan—feeling a mixture of admiration and envy—said, “One of my colleagues snagged tickets to Su Yu’s concert, even if it’s just a corner spot. To be able to be there is really lucky.”
