The Noble Lady of Lust

Chapter 401: Goddess Of Fate

*****

POV: Third person

”My goddess, please take a break, your condition may worsen.”

”Cough! I can’t... I’m responsible, I have to fix this mess, even if it’s the last thing I do.”

In a gigantic, exquisitely decorated room, there were two women.

One was sitting at a desk holding a quill while writing something tensely, regardless of the fact that she was coughing up blood with a peculiar golden color from time to time.

Even so, she exuded a heavy aura of dignity and seriousness as she focused on what she was doing.

She did not seem to agree with the words of what appeared to be a girl with drooping rabbit ears dressed as a butler.

”My goddess, at least take your medicine. If you don’t, it could be dangerous for you.”

”Cough! That stupid medicine is useless... cough! My wounds are not that simple.... Anyway, convey my thanks to Eshvara and Medicium.”

”I will make sure to do so, My Goddess.”

”Just leave it, I’ll drink it later. Now leave, you’re interrupting me!”

”As you wish, my goddess.”

Seeing that there was nothing more she could do or say, the rabbit woman withdrew with a slightly reluctant and sad expression.

The woman continued writing with her pen without stopping.

A divine aura emanated from her hand, and she seemed to be straining to the point of collapsing at any moment.

”Cough!!.. Cough!”

In addition to her uncontrollable cough, her complexion was pale and she looked very deteriorated, yet her beauty could not be hidden.

Her beautiful pale blue hair fell to one side, and her eyes seemed to contain all colors: her pupil was divided into multiple sections, each with a changing color in harmony with the rest.

Those mystical eyes seemed to allow her to see something that no one else could, which is why she was actually writing in the air.

The current state of decline of this deity was a cause of great concern for the believers of this goddess.

The origin of this was the incident that happened almost four years ago, where all destiny seemed to have been destroyed, and rewritten.

She, who wielded that authority, was the most affected and nearly died. Since then, she had been in that delicate state all this time, not knowing if there was any way to heal her peculiar wounds.

Although she seemed to be trying hard, the truth was that most of her work was already in the hands of the other deities, and she could barely perform her duties.

Even those who believed in this goddess with all their faith—her most faithful believers, angels, and followers—thought that her days were numbered, that all was lost, but—

”Cough! Cou-?”

[[You are no longer needed.]]

In the midst of her coughing, a voice that seemed to have no clear origin reached her.

”So soon? They fixed it already? Were they that desperate? ... Let me check...”

At that moment, her uncontrollable coughing stopped, and as if she were seeing something, she looked down.

Her colorful, shifting eyes stared intently at something that once again did not seem to be on this plane.

Her eyebrows furrowed as her face showed difficulty in understanding.

She stared for a while until...

”Yes! Hahaha~... I can finally stop pretending to be crippled.”

Suddenly, a big smile spread across her beautiful face as she literally jumped on her desk and threw everything on it, including the medicine that other deities had prepared for her.

There was no trace of her previous dignity or seriousness, or rather, there was no trace of her decline.

From one moment to the next, she looked more than healthy and acted like a happy child who had regained her freedom, someone who had found liberation.

”The time to act has finally come. Those guys, acting all smart, took advantage of my weakness to take away fragments of my ’supposed’ authority. Hahaha! Idiots... destiny is not something you can have authority over to begin with, they’re digging their own grave.”

At that moment, her emaciated and weak appearance began to fade, and her beauty seemed to be restored to a point that was difficult to describe.

A kind of pure white light emanated from her hand, which seemed to cause everything it touched to break, or rather, to fragment.

She looked at her hand for a moment, as if thinking aloud.

”Hmm, curious... some are moving based on feelings... They accidentally found the answer. That one in particular, but it’s probably counterproductive, even so, it’s very curious... the others are more stubborn... yes, everything is going correctly, but the new future destiny is so fragile that it’s no different from seeing nothing... Well, on to the next thing... I’m going to check.”

At that moment, the goddess raised her hand and the light changed color until it released multiple shades, like the goddess’s eyes.

As she raised her hand, the light began to expand in front of her and a large mirror formed, divided into several fragments.

Some of the larger ones were the size of a fist, while others were infinitely small and barely visible, but emitted intense light of one or more colors.

There were many, and she watched them very closely; her eyes were so focused that they seemed to fragment as well.

Golden blood began to show as she examined each fragment; when she looked at them closely, they looked like a puzzle that implicitly joined with others of different sizes.

This continued for a moment, until she finally seemed to find what she was looking for and closed her eyes.

”ufff~, yes... I think I know where to start. What do you think, Chastity?”

[[Does it really help to see something broken? Aren’t you doing the same thing as what you just called stubborn?]]

”That’s where you’re wrong. I don’t cling to anything, because there has never been anything to cling to. Fate has always been random. And every memory is a fundamental piece; amid the chaos that occurred, each one now becomes a small guiding light that shapes tomorrow.”

[[Stop talking like that, it makes me sick... So what? Are you going to tell me that helps you visualize the destiny, you fraud? ]]

”Hmph!. I may be a fraud, but I am unequivocally the goddess of fate. No one understands this better than I do.”

[[So what did you see?]]

”Yes, I found some valuable information and made comparisons. And as ’it’ said, everything happened as it had to happen and will happen... I suppose.”

[[Charlatan.]]

”Hey, this affects me too... so I’m not completely sure, it’s fifty-fifty. And that’s why I’m asking you what you think. Now that fate and the future are useless crap, you’re the one with the advantage. It’s your time to shine, you who have always been called the most useless among your own.”

[[You didn’t have to put it that way. Besides, that’s not proven, I’ve never acted.]]

”That’s right, don’t be intimidated, show who’s boss.”

[[...Haah~ I always thought you’d be better off with Patience, since he complements you, unlike me... I wonder what he’ll see now. In the past era, he seemed strange. Is he involved in this too? Or will he just wallow in helplessness?]]

”Hmph, that’s why I always tell you that he will always be second to me. He must be wallowing. He’s useless even with all his privileges; he thought highly of himself, but that was because I wasn’t being serious.”

[[Talking big when you’re just a fraud... but seriously, it wasn’t a coincidence that we were together, huh? I always wondered why, of all things, I would be with you, seeing that we are so incompatible in authority.]]

”Because we were, are, and will be best friends forever? Besides, haven’t you heard that opposites attract?”

[[...I really don’t remember any of that.]]

”It doesn’t matter. As long as I remember it, that’s enough. Once this is over, you’ll be free of that damn virtue, Chastity.... Well, then, from what I’ve seen, I think it’s time, or am I wrong?”

[[...Yes, it’s time. And when we’re done, it will also be time for you to drop me into the mortal world. I need to find a real host, my first host since my creation.]]

”What!? That’s not going to happen. You’re not leaving me. We must stay together forever.”

At that moment, the beautiful goddess summoned a beautiful whitish-gold bow in her hand and hugged it tightly, as if to show that she did not want to let it go.

[[Hey, be careful where you put my bow... and no. You have to let me go to the mortal world after you fulfill your part of the deal and we rescue that girl who has the fragments of Chronos, from non-existence and oblivion.]]

”B-but we’re supposed to be together forever, and if I incarnate or—”

”No, give it up... hmm. But now that we’ve come to this, I’ve also started to feel that... hey, what if you bless that girl and then give her to me? I feel like it will be very feasible... no, in fact, it may be the best. It’s like killing, let’s see... one, two... like more than five birds with one stone.”

”Oh! But what foresight. Don’t you want to be the goddess of fate?”

[[Tsk, stop with the bad jokes.]]

”Okay, sorry. Let’s get to them. We have to give the signal so the rest can start doing their thing too, ahem!!... ’Today, in the name of what remains of my divine authority, I make two declarations: first, as leader of the neutral faction, I declare that it is permanently dissolved; neutrality is no longer an option. And second, I declare that the goddess of fate is dead and destinity will belong to no one. Whoever breaks this will suffer more karma than they can bear’... phew~... okay, now, Chastity, I’ve lost my divinity and my authority over destiny.”

[[And you say that so easily, when anyone else... haaah~. Whatever. Now without your questionable divinity, we have to find more fuel to catch up with that girl. Which one are we going for?]]

”Oh, you seem eager to fulfill your purpose, eh? God Hunter Legacy.”

[[Nah, I’m just bored of being here alone with you.]]

”Hey, don’t say that to your best friend forever. But I already have some nasty, irrelevant guys in mind. That’s why I looked carefully beforehand; I even cried blood, and I didn’t get any concern from you.”

[[Okay, let’s go get some divine heads!]]

”Hey, worry about me...Ah! She’s coming back, she must be going crazy now that I’m dead. Sorry, Clara, but this is for the greater good.”

At that moment, she acted as if she were fleeing before she was discovered. The goddess quickly picked up the large crystallized mirror.

Waving her hand, what appeared to be an exact copy of her in her emaciated state from a moment ago suddenly appeared.

She quickly arranged it to look like she collapsed and died while writing.

”Let’s see, a little more blood here and here... okay, now we’re good, tactical retreat, let’s go Chastity.”

After a few details, what looked like a portal opened beside her and she began to walk through it.

[[That’s in very bad taste. Aren’t you worried about your subordinates now that you’re not there?]]

”Yes, but I’ll seal my divine realm; they’ll be fine for at least a thousand years. And in the worst case, I’ll leave some of my authority to Clara, she’s very good, she’ll keep everything in order...I suppose? Hey, but seriously, be honest: are you really bored of being here with me?”

[[Hmm, why don’t we go after Aeloria? I don’t know why, but I feel like I don’t like her.]]

”Hey!, don’t talk nonsense to avoid my question. Answer me honestly, or I’ll use your bow to—.”

And that was the last anyone heard from the entity known as the goddess of fate, who began to move in a way that no divine or mortal being could ever understand.
