Urban Seduction: Housewives Club

Chapter 1438: Chapter 1438: A Direct Confrontation

Since Ye Fei had already spoken, Zhang Jia naturally had nothing more to say, so she began chatting with Zhou Tingting about topics that interested girls.

However, although Zhou Tingting was talking to her, her eyes kept wandering back to Ye Fei.

The traffic in the capital was not commendable. It took nearly an hour to drop Zhang Jia off at her home. Fortunately, her house was not far from the place; otherwise, by the time Ye Fei and the others arrived at the Zhou residence, it would probably be past lunchtime.

At this moment, the Zhou family was already in some disarray. The reason was that Zhou Tingting had called her mother, Li Minghua, and told her that Ye Fei was coming over for lunch.

After hanging up the phone, Li Minghua hurried into Grandpa Zhou’s study, and the first thing she said was, ”Dad, Ye Fei is coming!”

”I already knew that,” Zhou Shichang said, puzzled by his daughter-in-law’s actions. Since Ye Fei had arrived in the capital yesterday afternoon and had settled matters with two families, everyone who needed to know already did, and he was among them. So he didn’t understand why Li Minghua was repeating it.

Seeing Zhou Shichang’s reaction, Li Minghua realized she had lost her composure and quickly took a deep breath to explain, ”I mean, he’s coming to our house.”

”What?” Zhou Shichang exclaimed in surprise, ”You mean...”

Li Minghua nodded and said, ”That’s right. I suspect he already knows something. Otherwise, with his personality, he would go after the Qi family first.”

It has to be said that Li Minghua was truly remarkable. Based on rumors and some intelligence, she had already figured out Ye Fei’s personality very clearly and even guessed what he was going to do with a high degree of accuracy.

Given Ye Fei’s protective nature, the first thing he would do after arriving in the capital was to stand up for his family.

As for visiting old friends, that would have to wait. The fact that he was now coming to the Zhou family first spoke volumes.

Zhou Shichang was convinced by Li Minghua’s words and couldn’t help but feel a bit panicked for a moment. However, he was a man who had weathered many storms and quickly calmed down. He sighed and said, ”If he’s coming, let him come. It’s just that I’ve involved you all.”

Li Minghua didn’t say anything more. She just went out to instruct the guards and then returned to the study.

So when Ye Fei and the others arrived at the Zhou residence, they were informed at the entrance that Grandpa Zhou and Li Minghua were waiting for them in the study.

”It’s strange. You’re just coming over as a guest. It’s not like there’s something important. Why go straight to the study?” Zhou Tingting said to Ye Fei, puzzled, while Ye Fei seemed to be lost in thought.

Once inside the study, Li Minghua’s first words were to ask someone to leave, ”Tingting, you go out first. I have something to discuss with Ye Fei.”

Zhou Tingting was a very well-behaved and obedient girl. Except for her rebelliousness regarding Ye Fei, she generally did as Li Minghua said. This time was no exception. Although she was curious, she still left obediently.

After Zhou Tingting left, the three of them were silent for a while. Finally, Ye Fei was the first to speak, ”Grandpa Zhou, do you have any more explanations?”

Although Ye Fei’s words were vague, both Zhou Shichang and Li Minghua understood.

”There’s nothing to explain,” Zhou Shichang sighed deeply. ”In my life, I can say I’ve been loyal to my country and served the people well, but I can’t say I’ve been completely guilt-free. That’s because I’ve done two things against my conscience.”

Saying this, Zhou Shichang turned to Li Minghua, ”The first one is that I used a little favor to force Minghua to marry Zhou Bo. My child, I know you’ve never looked up to Zhou Bo, and you’ve been wronged these years.”

”Dad, please don’t say that. First of all, the favor you did for me is far more than just a little. And as for marrying Zhou Bo, I’ve never regretted it,” Li Minghua quickly said. ”You know my personality. If it weren’t for marrying Zhou Bo, I would probably still be single. But now I have such a wonderful daughter, so I have no regrets.”

To be fair, Zhou Bo was not bad at all. Although he was a bit inferior to Liu Junyi, at the age of only forty, he had achieved the high rank of a major general through his efforts. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call him a paragon among people.

However, Li Minghua, with her great talent, also had very high standards. As she had said, if it weren’t for marrying Zhou Bo, she would probably still be single, because there were hardly any men in the world who could meet her standards.

Thinking of this, Li Minghua couldn’t help but glance at Ye Fei. She changed her mind again. It’s not that there were no men who could meet her standards; it’s just that she was born at the wrong time.

If she were twenty years younger, she could be sure that she would fall in love with this incredibly outstanding man just like her daughter, even though his personal life was a complete mess.

”And the second thing is that I knew the children of the Liu and Ye families were innocent, yet I still targeted you in secret, which led to Ling Tian’s death,” Zhou Shichang continued, then looked at Ye Fei, ”So, even if you take my life, I have no complaints. I just hope you can spare Minghua and her family of three. They are all innocent.”

”Your demands are not high,” Ye Fei sneered. ”You also said that my uncle was killed by you, and now you ask me to spare your son. Are your relatives people, but mine are not?”

”But they are also your relatives,” Zhou Shichang said, ”Zhou Bo is your uncle.”

”What uncle?” Ye Fei frowned. If it weren’t for knowing that Zhou Shichang was not the type to lie for his life, he would have been tempted to take action. But no matter how you looked at it, his son couldn’t possibly be his uncle.

”This secret has been bottled up inside me for forty years. Zhou Bo is not my son, but the child of your grandfather and another woman,” Zhou Shichang said earnestly, ”He is also the half-brother of your mother and the others, sharing the same father.”

”What?!” Ye Fei was completely shocked this time. However, no matter how he looked at it, Zhou Shichang did not seem to be lying, and Li Minghua was not surprised either, indicating that she had known about it all along.

But Ye Fei was not an ordinary person. After being shocked for a moment, he quickly calmed down but became even more puzzled. So he asked, ”If that’s the case, then why did you still treat us like this?”

Zhou Shichang did not originally intend to say much, but Ye Fei’s question stirred up the bitterness and anger in his heart. After a series of strange laughs, he said indignantly, ”Why? You still ask why. Do you know who Zhou Bo’s mother is?”
