Chapter 1425: Chapter 1425: A Well-Laid Plan

”Haha... Good lad, you’ve got guts!” Seeing Ye Fei agree, the Number One couldn’t help but pat his shoulder and burst into laughter.

He didn’t seem the least bit disheartened that his power would be significantly diminished as a result, which both surprised and impressed Ye Fei.

However, just at that moment, a rather discordant voice suddenly came from outside, ”Ye Fei, get out here now!”

Hearing this voice, Ye Fei remained unfazed, but the Number One’s brow furrowed slightly as he walked towards the door first.

Upon stepping outside, Ye Fei looked up and saw a man in his sixties standing in the courtyard, glaring at him with a face full of anger, as if his eyes were about to shoot out flames.

Around him stood four middle-aged men, each with considerable cultivation, though they were still a notch below the previously encountered Ning Tao, who was at the peak of innate cultivation. In Ye Fei’s eyes, they were no different from ordinary people.

It should be mentioned that this old man’s name was Ning Changzheng.

In his youth, he had been good friends with the Number One, the kind who had gone down to the countryside together.

At that time, the two were like-minded. However, as they grew older, the gap between them widened, not just in terms of status but, more importantly, in their mindset.

The Number One became increasingly selfless, dedicated solely to the country and its people, while this Ning old man grew more and more self-centered. Although he had retired, he still relied on his relationship with the Number One, and others still gave him face.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have dared to barge into the Number One’s residence with a group of people like this.

Seeing this scene, the Number One’s brow furrowed even more as he asked sternly, ”Old Ning, what are you doing?”

”Boss, don’t interfere. This is between me and this kid. He crippled my grandson, Xiao Tao, and I won’t let it go today!” Ning Changzheng roared, revealing his identity as Ning Tao’s grandfather.

Ye Fei finally understood why Ning Tao had called the Number One ”boss”—it turned out he had learned it from his grandfather.

However, while it was acceptable for Ning Changzheng to call the Number One ”boss,” it was quite disrespectful for Ning Tao to do so.

Of course, what Ye Fei didn’t know was that Ning Tao only called him that in front of outsiders to show off his connection with the Number One. He wouldn’t dare to do so in person.

Hearing Ning Changzheng’s words, the Number One’s brows furrowed even tighter, and he was on the verge of anger.

Over the years, he had been aware of what Ning Changzheng had been up to. He had let things slide, considering their long-standing friendship, as long as Ning Changzheng didn’t go too far.

After all, people from other families were not necessarily better than Ning Changzheng.

Even when Ning Changzheng wanted to place his grandson in the Guard Bureau, the Number One had agreed. He had intended to give him this favor and then find an excuse to get rid of this troublemaker later.

He hadn’t expected that Ye Fei would cripple Ning Tao before he could take action.

Now, Ning Changzheng was storming into his residence with a group of people, which was a blatant disregard for his authority as the Number One.

This made the Number One both furious and saddened.

Over the years, he had been trying to preserve their friendship, but what about the other party?

Had they ever cared as much as he had?

All they had done was take advantage of him.

At this moment, Ye Fei took a step forward and looked at Ning Changzheng, asking, ”What do you want?”

”What do I want? You crippled my grandson and you still have the nerve to ask me what I want! Kid, you’re not getting out of this alive today. You crippled my grandson, and I’m going to take your life!” Ning Changzheng said with venom.

Ever since he had retired, his family had been on the decline. His next generation lacked any truly capable individuals.

Even with his connection to the Number One, people were paying him less and less respect.

But when Ning Tao came back, he had seen a glimmer of hope.

Although Ning Tao was not an exceptional person, his strength was undeniable. So Ning Changzheng had persistently lobbied the Number One to get Ning Tao into the Guard Bureau.

He thought that with Ning Tao’s skills, he could become the leader there, essentially the commander of the guards.

Although the position was not particularly high-ranking, even high officials would have to show him respect. In this way, the Ning family could regain its former prominence.

But before Ning Changzheng’s dream could come true, his only hope was crippled by Ye Fei, which filled him with both despair and immense anger.

Of course, Ning Changzheng’s main purpose for coming was not to avenge his grandson. After all, even if he killed Ye Fei, Ning Tao would still be crippled.

It was not worth risking a direct assault on the Number One’s residence for a waste. However, a waste could still be useful.

He could use this pretext to take down Ye Fei. Since Ye Fei was invited by the Number One, the Number One would likely intervene if something happened to Ye Fei. In this way, the Number One would owe him a huge favor.

Ning Changzheng’s plan was nothing if not meticulous. As for why he was so confident that he could take down Ye Fei, who had crippled Ning Tao, it was because...

”Attack!” With Ning Changzheng’s loud command, the four peak innate cultivators did not rush at Ye Fei as others might have expected.

Instead, they each suddenly took out a submachine gun from their bosoms and aimed at Ye Fei—Ning Changzheng simply could not believe that no matter how strong Ye Fei was, he could dodge the gunfire from these four experts who were even more combat-effective than Ning Tao.

”Ning Changzheng, you have some nerve, daring to bring guns into my residence!” Seeing the four experts take out their guns, the Number One’s face changed dramatically, filled with both anger and worry.

He knew much more about Ye Fei’s strength than Ning Changzheng did. So even though the other party had come with experts, he had not been worried for Ye Fei.

But now it was different. He also felt that Ye Fei could not possibly withstand the gunfire from four armed experts.

Ning Changzheng looked at the Number One and said indifferently, ”Boss, I know I’m in the wrong, but my grandson’s revenge must be taken. After I deal with this kid, I will kowtow and apologize to you!”

After speaking, Ning Changzheng turned to Ye Fei and said coldly, ”Kid, you’d better surrender quietly. In the boss’s name, I might spare your life. Otherwise, bullets don’t have eyes!”

Facing the four dark gun barrels, Ye Fei suddenly laughed, ”Leader, it seems you do have some influence. Others can spare my life for your sake.”

The Number One, who had risen to his current position, was naturally not a fool and was much smarter than the vast majority of people. He had just been angered by Ning Changzheng and hadn’t thought much about it.

But now, with a slight hint from Ye Fei, he immediately understood Ning Changzheng’s true intentions, and his face darkened significantly.
