Chapter 346: Suspicions Men

The body soap bar was as wide as their palm and as thick as an adult’s thumb. It was also quite long. One piece would be able to last for a long time, and they received 2 pieces!

The hair soap was thick, and one jar weighed at least 3 jins. As for the clothes powder, the amount was also a lot. But the most important thing was that the soap smelled so good. It was even better than the fragrance balm sold in the town store.

Everyone was delighted to receive the soaps. Even the soldiers couldn’t help but feel envious of the villagers’ good luck.

While the soldiers were busy distributing the soap, a young man arrived in Yang Village. Beside him was another older man. Both of them wore tattered clothes, their faces were dirty, and their hair looked like a bird’s nest.

When they walked into the village, the villagers stared at them warily. Both men were also taken aback by the situation in the village.

Before they came, they had investigated the situation in several villages near the mountains. Although their situations were mostly similar, when they visited those villages, the conditions were not much better compared to the border villages.

Therefore, they also thought that this village was the same. Unexpectedly, after all their preparation to blend in with the villagers, they stood out like sore thumbs instead.

They didn’t know where the Village Chief’s house was, but when they walked closer to the villagers, the villagers would run back to their homes and close the doors. This put the men in an awkward situation.

While they were at a loss, they saw a young woman driving a donkey cart. The cart was filled with bamboo baskets and sacks.

As they stared at her, Yao Zhi also noticed them. She had been living with the Ling squad for a while and could differentiate between commoners and martial artists.

When she saw these strangers’ postures and met their eyes, a thought flashed in her mind. Both of them looked like beggars, but they knew martial arts. As for how strong their martial arts were, she didn’t know.

For them to disguise themselves as beggars and come to her village, they must be investigating something or someone. Rather than letting the enemies watch from the shadows, it’s better to keep them under her eyes.

With this thought, she slowed down her donkey cart and stopped it when she was 1 meter away from them.

”Brothers, I have never seen you before. Are you looking for your relatives?” she asked with a smile.

Both men exchanged glances when they heard this. After a moment, one of them finally said, ”Lady, we are indeed searching for our relatives.”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi observed the man for a moment and noticed that although he looked dirty, his skin was good. His background must be extraordinary.

”May I ask what your relative’s name is?”

The man thought for a moment before he said, ”My niece is called Yunjie.”

Yao Zhi searched her memories and shook her head. ”I never heard of this name.”

”She is 9 years old this year,” the man said again and described his niece’s features.

This time, surprise flashed in Yao Zhi’s eyes. From the description, this person’s niece sounded like Xi Si.

But from what she knew, all of the male family members from Marquis Yongning’s family had been executed. Besides Xi Qi, no other male descendants survived.

Reaching these conclusions, cold sweat broke out on her back. She pretended to think for a long time before she shook her head. ”I’m sorry, Brother. I don’t know anyone who fits your description.”

The man’s eyes dimmed when he heard this. ”Thank you, Lady.”

Yao Zhi didn’t dare to stay any longer and urged Xiao Lu to walk faster. Feeling the nudging of its owner, Xiao Lu glanced at her and quickened its pace.

After they left, one of the men asked in a low voice, ”Heir, this is the last village. If we can’t find Madam, then...”

The moment he heard this, the younger man interrupted him, ”We must find and protect them at all costs. This is the last wish of my brother.”

As he said this, he clenched his fists tightly. After he found his sister-in-law and niece, he would find a way to kill that dog emperor and avenge the blood feud of his entire clan!

Since they didn’t know where to start, they continued walking. The villagers heard their conversation with Yao Zhi. Knowing that they were looking for their relatives, they were no longer as wary as before.

Seeing them at a loss, an old woman suddenly asked in her hoarse voice, ”Young man, who are you looking for?”

Hearing this, one of the men replied, ”Granny, we are escaping famine and came here to look for our relatives. But we don’t know where they live.”

Granny Yang nodded and said, ”Then, you should go ask the Village Chief.”

After she coughed for a moment, she added, ”The Village Chief’s house is at the end of the road. Just follow this path, and you will see a house with a big yard on the left. That’s his house.”

The man was grateful and said, ”Thank you, Granny.”

After he said this, they left in large strides. While it was true that they were refugees, they were not escaping famine but the pursuit of the imperial army.

Although something had happened when they just arrived in this northern area, with the White Tiger Army’s General holding the highest authority here, the imperial army had no other choice but to retreat.

At this moment, if they were unable to find the family members of Marquis Yongning, they still decided to stay in this village. This place had better conditions compared to other villages and was located near the General’s mansion.

Those people wouldn’t dare to do anything openly here, and it would buy them time to recover their strength.

While they were still on their way to the Village Chief’s house, Yao Zhi had already arrived at her house.
