Chapter 313: Renovating The House ( 3 )

Yao Zhi looked at the shop owner and took a step back, hiding behind her husband. This man’s muscles were big, and his eyes were sharp. He looked scary.

Fu Chen’an took a step forward and blocked the shop owner’s gaze. He took out the design they had prepared earlier and handed it to him.

”My wife and I want to build a bathhouse for our home. This is the design.”

The man accepted the paper and took a look. Surprise and interest flashed in his eyes the moment he saw the detailed drawing.

He only looked for a moment before saying, ”I can go to your house and build the bathhouse, but you need to cover my travel expenses and compensate for my shop’s revenue.”

Fu Chen’an frowned when he heard this. ”Your shop doesn’t seem to have any business.”

Ignoring his remark, the shop owner continued, ”The materials will be prepared by you. The travel expenses, compensation for my shop’s revenue, and my daily wage will be 500 wen a day.”

Before Fu Chen’an could say anything, Yao Zhi pulled at his sleeve. Feeling the tug, he turned to glance at his wife.

Yao Zhi winked at him before looking at the shop owner. ”How long will it take for you to finish the bathhouse?”

”How many do you want to build?” he asked.

”I want to build 3 bathhouses and 3 outhouses.”

The shop owner thought for a while before saying, ”It will take around 5 days to build one bathhouse and 8 days to build the outhouses.”

Although the fee was expensive, as long as the result was high-quality, she didn’t mind paying more. After considering it, she nodded. ”Okay. When can you start?”

”I still need to finish 2 more orders. I can only start in 5 days at the earliest.”

”Alright.”

Since his wife had agreed, Fu Chen’an said nothing. After they left their address, they left the shop.

Now that they had finished their main task, they had some free time. As they walked, Fu Chen’an said, ”Wife, the General gave me 100 taels of gold and asked me to buy a set of soap and skin care for him.”

Although her husband said that the General asked him, it was more likely an order. In this era, subordinates couldn’t go against a superior’s order at all, or they would be punished.

Yao Zhi thought about telling her husband about her system but changed her mind in the end. She was using the Nuwa clan as her cover. If she told him about her system, then she would have no choice but to explain her background.

They hadn’t spent much time together, and she didn’t know if he would treat her the same after learning that she was not the original soul.

Suppressing her emotions, she nodded and said, ”I will get it for you.”

Fu Chen’an glanced at his wife. He thought that she would tell him where she got those things from just now. Unexpectedly, she still kept it a secret.

Realizing that his wife hadn’t completely trusted him, he couldn’t help but self-introspect, wondering if he had neglected her and caused their relationship to become distant.

They walked aimlessly in town before deciding to visit a bookstore.

”Husband, what book do you want to buy?”

”I will take a look first.”

”Okay.”

As they entered the store, there were only a few scholars browsing books. While Fu Chen’an was looking for folk story-related books, Yao Zhi checked the miscellaneous section.

In this era, there were not many romance novels sold in bookstores since they were deemed vulgar and unfit for scholarly integrity.

When the clerk saw her looking around but showing no intention of buying anything, he came over and asked, ”Lady, may I help you?”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi turned to the clerk and asked, ”Sir, do you have any storybooks?”

It was common for women to ask for storybooks, so the clerk nodded and replied, ”We do have several storybooks. Please wait a moment.”

The clerk went to the back room and returned with a box. He showed the items inside and said in a low voice, ”Lady, these are the bestsellers in our bookstore. They are written by a popular scholar. Please have a look.”

Yao Zhi picked up one of the books and checked the content. Although the writing style was too exaggerated, the story was not bad.

”How much is it?”

”It’s 2 taels of silver per book.”

She was surprised by the price. ”So expensive?”

It’s not that she was stingy, but the storybook had fewer than 50 pages. One book only contained around 20 Chapters by modern standards, so the price was indeed high.

As an author before she transmigrated, she planned to write during her free time. Before that, she needed to do market research first. With this thought, she gritted her teeth and paid 10 taels of silver for 5 books.

When she was done, she saw her husband holding two books. Yao Zhi walked over and asked, ”Husband, you want to buy these?”

Fu Chen’an wanted the books, but the price was too high. Noticing his hesitation, she said, ”Sir, we want these books. How much are they?”

The clerk was delighted by her straightforward manner and replied, ”Lady, the total is 15 taels of silver. It’s a rare book and an original print. It was written by Master Zhao himself during his travels.”

Since the books held collection value, it was normal for them to be expensive. She nodded and handed the money over.

”Thank you for your purchase,” the clerk said with a smile as he accepted the money.

”Wife, thank you.”

Yao Zhi held his arm and chuckled. ”Husband, this money is earned by you. There is no need to thank me. If you have anything you want to buy, just tell me.”

After thinking for a moment, she shook her head and added, ”No, I should give you some money so you can buy anything you want. That will be your pocket money.”

When Fu Chen’an heard this, he smiled and nodded. ”I will listen to you, Wife.”

”Good!”
