Chapter 326: Plague ( 7 )

Yu Ji took the letter from the guard and said, ”You can leave now.”

The guard bowed and left the room, not forgetting to close the door. Yu Ji handed the letter to his master and waited.

After Zhao Xian read the letter, a smile appeared on his face. ”Ah Ji, prepare ink and paper.”

Without wasting time, Yu Ji quickly prepared everything. Picking up his brush, Zhao Xian wrote a letter to his father.

The content of the letter was simple: the Xue family agreed to help them buy grains and medicine to solve their food shortage and the recent plague outbreak.

Yu Ji glanced at the letter, and his eyes lit up instantly. ”This is great! With the Xue family’s help, we don’t have to worry about not having enough food and medicine for our people.”

Zhao Xian nodded and replied, ”Madam Xue is indeed a talented woman. Lu Qianxuan was really lucky to be able to marry her.”

When he heard his master’s words, Yu Ji felt something was off with his tone, but he couldn’t pinpoint it. He scratched the back of his head in confusion.

After he sent the letter to his family, Zhao Xian continued reading the reports and handling his work. As for Yu Ji, he leaped to the beam and rested there. He was trained as a shadow guard, and sleeping on a beam was a normal occurrence for him.

At midnight, in Yang Village, Yao Zhi was sleeping restlessly.

At this moment, her soul was being pulled to a strange place where everything around her was covered with thick fog. She could only reach out her hands and walk slowly as she probed the surroundings.

Although she couldn’t see anything, her feelings were telling her that she was inside a dense forest. The ground was soft but warm. The vitality in this place was so strong that she could hear the heartbeat of the plants growing densely.

She continued walking for a long time until she finally saw a bright, golden light in the distance. The golden light illuminated the area, dispersing the fog.

Having finally found an exit, she hastened her speed and ran over. She thought that she was finally able to leave this ghostly place. But when she reached the golden light, what she saw was not a door, but a tree.

The tree was massive. It was taller than a building, and its trunk was so huge that it might need more than 100 people to circle it.

Despite the golden light coming from it, its leaves were rotten, and the trunk was covered with white bugs. The tree was dying.

The moment this thought flashed in her mind, Yao Zhi reached out to touch the dried, peeling bark and asked, ”Is it painful?”

Soon after she asked, a faint, old voice echoed, ”Benefactor, you are finally here. I have been waiting for you for a long time.”

The voice seemed to be coming from all directions and was very distant. Yao Zhi raised her head and stared at the tree. ”Is it you who is talking?”

”The living beings no longer remember their roots and continue killing, owing to bad karma over generations. Benefactor, the world is dying. Right now, only you can save it.”

Yao Zhi was stunned by its words and shook her head. ”Elder, you must be mistaken. I’m just an ordinary person. I can’t do anything like saving the world.”

”Benefactor, you are the chosen one. I believe that only you can do it.”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi was full of doubts. ”Can I?”

”The higher realm agrees to save this world as long as you provide the energy. Benefactor, on behalf of all the beings in this world, I beg you to save us.”

The voice of the tree was like a dying old man. Yao Zhi couldn’t bring herself to refuse its request. Although she hesitated, she still asked, ”What can I do to save you?”

”Benefactor, this world needs merit light to patch the broken void. Are you willing to share your merit light with us?”

At this moment, Yao Zhi’s mind was not working as usual. She didn’t consider the pros and cons and followed her true heart. Nodding, she replied, ”I’m willing.”

”Thank you, Benefactor,” the old tree said with a hint of sigh in its voice.

After the brief conversation, Yao Zhi saw that her body was turning transparent.

Before she was sent out from that place, she heard the old tree say, ”Benefactor, your memories are affected by the void crack, so you forgot that your spouse already knew about your identity and the existence of the Manager.”

Hearing this, memories of her conversation with her husband returned to her.

She was jolted awake and realized that on the day her husband learned about the system’s shared manor, she had already told him about the system’s existence. He also learned about her identity as a transmigrator.

Since she had already told him, why did she forget about that? Was it because of the so-called void crack corrupting the world and causing her to lose this part of her memories, just like what the old tree said?

While she was still contemplating the reason, she suddenly heard a notification sound echoing in her mind. The next moment, a blue screen popped up in front of her.

”Due to the agreement between the host and the world’s consciousness, from now on, the merit points earned by the host will be deducted by 10% to patch the void crack. Thank you for your generosity, Host!”

Before she even finished reading the announcement, she saw her merit points being deducted.

Although she was feeling pain in her pocket, Yao Zhi still endured it. After all, she now lives here. If the world were thrown into chaos, she wouldn’t be able to have a good life either. So, she just took it as paying rent to stay in this world.

Since it was still in the middle of the night, she snuggled into her husband’s arms and went back to sleep.
