Yang Ruxin stood up, took the empty bowl, and was returning it when she left the room and saw Yang Baixiang’s grandfather stomping in angrily, with Baixiang trailing behind him.

“Father, you’re back?” Yang Dongshi was on her way out, “I was just…”

“Where are the second and fourth brothers?” Yang Peili did not answer Yang Dongshi but immediately shouted in the courtyard.

“Why are you back at this time?” Yang Anshi hurried out upon hearing this.

“I’m back to find your two precious sons…” The old man’s tone was not pleasant.

“What happened to them?” Yang Anshi frowned.

“What happened?” The old man sneered coldly, “They’re out in the fields and haven’t even started working yet, one needed to defecate, the other to urinate, and neither came back for half a day.”

The corners of Ruxin’s mouth twitched.

Had the old man finally lost his temper?

For all these years, because her side of the family and Uncle Xiaowu had done most of the work, he had turned a blind eye.

Now that she had stopped cooperating and Uncle Xiaowu had also voiced objections, was he finally thinking of putting things right?

However, after so many years, could these ingrained habits change?

And there was still the overprotective grandmother of the Yang Family, so she was skeptical.

“If they don’t go back, so be it,” sure enough, Yang Anshi seemed unconcerned, “aren’t there other people to do the work?

Why bother…”

“Nonsense,” the old man growled, cutting off Yang Anshi’s words, “Who are you saying will do the work?

Do you expect this old man to do it and feed them?

Aren’t they afraid of being struck by lightning?”

Yang Anshi was taken aback, then became unhappy herself, “What are you yelling for?

Isn’t there still the Boss and the fifth?

Aren’t they people?”

“Mother, are only my sister-in-law and I members of the family, while the second and fourth brothers aren’t?” Baixiang frowned.

“Do you have a say in this?” Yang Anshi glared at her youngest son, “What’s wrong with doing some work?

Why are you making excuses?

My life is so hard, always pushing duties around.

If I had known it would be like this, I might as well have smothered you in a chamber pot when you were born…”

Baixiang’s face turned red with embarrassment, and he had no way to talk back after such berating.

Ruxin stood at the doorway, watching with relish.

If only she had some melon seeds, it would have been perfect.

The old lady’s dramatic skills were top-notch.

“That’s enough, this afternoon, every household must contribute labor, or else don’t expect to eat,” the old man saw Ruxin, perhaps irritated by the scorn on her face, and laid down the law, “Anyone who doesn’t want to work can just be disowned by the Yang Family.

As for me, I’ll consider I never had that son…”

In ancient times, being disowned was a serious punishment; a person without family ties could not survive or stand in society.

Of course, that was just the way of thinking in ancient times.

As far as Ruxin was concerned, such a family was not worth keeping.

Just then, Li Jiaya came in with a bamboo basket, glanced at Yang Peili and Yang Anshi in the courtyard, “Old Master Yang, Old Mistress Yang, are you both here?

I’ve come to change the dressing for your sister-in-law.”

Since an outsider was present, Yang Peili said no more, just grunted and entered the house.

“Really acting like a delicate noble now,” Yang Anshi rolled her eyes, “why not just drop dead?” Muttering to herself, she too went inside as the courtyard was too hot.

Li Jiaya frowned, but said nothing.

After all, this was the Yang Family’s domestic affair, and as an outsider and junior, it really wasn’t her place to comment.
