From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

”You foolish girl, what I’m saying is true! Back when the Yu family had no money, all of us siblings were healthy, with no missing arms or legs!”

Yu Dahai said.

”Big brother, if you say anything more, I’ll take my daughter and go somewhere else!”

Yu Xiuxiu was particularly protective of Ge Sandan because, in her eyes, the man had been good enough to her.

It was her own body that failed her. If she had given birth to a boy, it wouldn’t have been so difficult!

”Alright, alright, I won’t say it. But buying a courtyard isn’t something that can be done overnight. You should first stay at the Shuangshuang Courtyard. After a few days, I’ll call up your sister-in-law to take care of you.

It’s always more reassuring to have family handle things!” Yu Dahai shared his plan.

But was rejected by Yu Xiuxiu, ”No need to bother sister-in-law, I can take care of myself! By the way, big brother, can you arrange for me to do some work in the kitchen? I don’t want to stay home doing nothing!”

Upon hearing Yu Xiuxiu’s words, Yu Dahai immediately frowned.

”You’re already pregnant, what work do you intend to do? Listen to your brother, just stay in your room for now. If you want to work, wait until the baby is born!”

Yu Dahai was adamant about not giving Yu Xiuxiu any work.

After receiving the keys to the courtyard from Mu Shuangshuang, he took Xiuxiu and the baby to Mu Shuangshuang’s small courtyard.

...

Mu Shuangshuang went to the backyard, heading straight for where Mu Tou was at the toilet.

In the toilet, Mu Shuangshuang carefully inspected each commode; they were all spotless.

The toilet was even scented with sandalwood, so it didn’t stink.

It seemed that Mu Tou had put in a lot of effort there.

Mu Shuangshuang thought Mu Tou had gotten smarter, so she decided not to bother him for the time being.

She didn’t know that Huang Da and Huang Er were supervising Mu Tou every day.

If Mu Tou ever slacked off, they would warn him that they would tell Mu Shuangshuang, which would result in his dismissal.

Because of this, Mu Tou dared not slack off.

After finishing work at the toilet, he thought about sneaking into the kitchen to learn some cooking skills.

But each time he got near the kitchen, Wei Dacong caught him.

After being caught, Wei Dacong would inevitably mock him, calling him a traitor, saying he had no shame and was less than human for the sake of money!

Mu Tou didn’t dare talk back, enduring it each time!

Days went by, yet Mu Tou learned nothing, and he began to lose his calm.

While no one was watching, Mu Tou snuck to the restaurant across the street to find Xia Guagua.

Xia Guagua’s restaurant business was getting worse each day, and even with huge discounts, few people came in.

The daily losses worsened Xia Guagua’s temper, making him harsh towards everyone he saw.

Many of the restaurant’s staff wanted to leave, but they stayed because of the wages promised by Ma Jun!

Mu Tou met Xia Guagua in an upper-level private room and inevitably got a scolding from him.

”You ittle thing, you finally came back. Did you learn the recipes from the other side?” Xia Guagua asked, annoyed.

Mu Tou shook his head and began cursing Mu Shuangshuang, ”That little wretch is so malicious. She won’t let me into the kitchen, I... I have no choice now!”

”Boss, just give me a little more time. Once I get familiar with the restaurant folks again, I’ll definitely get the recipes! I swear!”

”What? You still haven’t gotten the recipes? Mu Tou, what am I keeping you for? You useless thing, I’ll give you three more days. If you still can’t get the recipes, you’re out!”

Xia Guagua scolded, pointing at Mu Tou’s nose.

Mu Tou dared not retort even a word!

After the scolding, Mu Tou looked up pitifully and asked Xia Guagua, ”Boss, why don’t we... spend fifty taels of silver to bribe that Wei Dacong?

He seems to have some recipe; that little wretch gave it to him, saying that once the snail fever dies down, they’ll immediately use new dishes!”

”Fifty taels?” Xia Guagua’s eyes rolled around in their sockets.

Fifty taels really wasn’t a lot; if it could bring business as hot as the other side’s, it would be earned back quickly!

”Fine! If you can persuade that chef, come and get the fifty taels!” Xia Guagua said.

”And the silver...” Mu Tou looked at Xia Guagua, chuckling.

”Get it sorted first!”

After speaking, Xia Guagua had someone throw Mu Tou out.

Outside Xia Guagua’s restaurant, Mu Tou muttered curses under his breath at Xia Guagua before reluctantly heading towards Chengfeng Restaurant.

As soon as he reached the backyard, before he had time to rest, Mu Shuangshuang called him to clean the front courtyard private room.

Mu Tou naturally refused, ”Boss, I’m the one who handles the night soil; these hands, after handling the buckets, are filthy. If the guests find out that someone handling night soil is cleaning their rooms, how can they eat?”

Mu Shuangshuang glanced at Mu Tou, seeing his proud demeanor, her eyes gleaming with amusement, ”Fine, if you don’t want to clean the private room, then how about this: there’s a vat of swill in the kitchen, why don’t you take it out?”

Hearing the chance to go into the kitchen, Mu Tou agreed without a second thought.

”That’s better, I’ll do it!”

After Mu Tou agreed, Mu Shuangshuang quickly called the newly hired waiter, Ah Shou.

Ah Shou was a tall and thin boy of sixteen or seventeen, whose parents were sick and needed money for treatment.

Initially, he was going to sell himself to become a servant at a wealthy family’s house, but Yu Dahai, seeing his honesty, arranged for him to work at the restaurant.

The wages from working at the restaurant weren’t much worse than being a servant, and the best part was his freedom.

Servants and maids in wealthy households were different from regular people; they had servant status.

Their service contracts were in the hands of their masters.

If the masters were displeased, they could sell their servants like livestock at any time!

In the restaurant, they could leave whenever they wanted!

”Ah Shou, you’re new and lack experience. I can’t just let you handle guests right away.

How about this: stay in the kitchen for a while, and once you’re familiar with Chengfeng Restaurant’s rules, you can start serving guests in the hall!”

Ah Shou nodded repeatedly, ”Boss, whatever you say, I’ll do!”

Ah Shou’s attitude was very respectful because when he was hired, Yu Dahai had told him.

In the entire restaurant, he only needed to listen to three people.

One was Mu Shuangshuang, and the other two were Yu Dahai and Lu Yuanfeng.

Moreover, Yu Dahai’s words were less authoritative than those of Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng.

Ah Shou kept Yu Dahai’s words in mind, hence his respectful attitude towards Mu Shuangshuang!

”Ah Shou, first take out the swill from the kitchen in a wooden bucket, then give it to Mu Tou, so that Mu Tou can find someone to take it away!

Besides those who have work in the kitchen, no one else is allowed to enter!”

Mu Shuangshuang ordered.

Ah Shou nodded firmly and immediately went into the kitchen to busy himself with the tasks Mu Shuangshuang had given him!
