From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

”Since Chengfeng Restaurant is so good, and Miss Shuangshuang is so nice, why don’t you cherish your days at the restaurant?” Yu Dahai asked.

Erzhu’s face stiffened; after hesitating for a while, he spoke up.

”It’s not that I don’t want to stay, it’s that Miss Shuangshuang doesn’t want me anymore!”

”Miss Shuangshuang doesn’t want you? Why wouldn’t she? She’s right here, so why don’t you be honest about what’s on your mind, and with her, perhaps there’s room for reconciliation!”

Yu Dahai signaled to Erzhu with his eyes.

Since Yu Dahai had always spoken kindly, Erzhu was no longer timid; he mustered his courage and approached Mu Shuangshuang, speaking softly:

”Miss Shuangshuang, I... I know why you’re angry. The matter with Brother Mu Tou is indeed my fault. I shouldn’t have acted on my own, shouldn’t have said to keep him, and shouldn’t have thought everyone was stingy for not giving him a bowl of food!

Before, I always considered Mu Tou a brother, but in reality, he’s not a good person. I really regret it.

I also understand that you might not want to give me another chance, but... I still hope you’ll consider the time I’ve spent at the restaurant and trust me once more!

I’m willing to devote all my energy to all the work at the restaurant, no matter how you instruct or speak to me, I’ll listen!”

Erzhu’s attitude was much more sincere than before.

Mu Tou had disheartened him, making him realize that he had problems both with how he conducted himself and his actions—he was too enthusiastic and too naive!

Mu Shuangshuang listened to Mu Tou’s explanation and looked up, ”What do you think Mu Tou came back for this time?”

”This...” Erzhu frowned tightly.

He didn’t know what Mu Tou came back for, but it certainly wasn’t anything good!

”If Mu Tou hadn’t done what he did today to harm you, tell the truth: would you side with Mu Tou or the restaurant?”

Mu Shuangshuang asked.

Erzhu didn’t speak, but the answer was obvious!

He would choose Mu Tou!

If it weren’t for those things later on, he would still have supported Mu Tou even now.

”So, you should understand why I asked you to leave, right?” Mu Shuangshuang said.

”You’re a staff member of the restaurant, but you have personal motives. Your personal motives aren’t for the restaurant’s guests, nor for the restaurant’s staff, not for me or Steward Yu, but for a sous chef who betrayed our restaurant.

Mu Tou has caused such significant losses for the restaurant; as a staff member, you should know this as well as I do if not more. How many people used to dine at our restaurant, and how many have we lost since the one across the street opened?”

Listening to Mu Shuangshuang’s heartfelt words, Erzhu lowered his head in shame.

”I’m sorry!”

”You haven’t wronged me!” Mu Shuangshuang shook her head.

”In any case, I hope in the future you won’t act or conduct yourself so impulsively!”

After saying this last sentence, Mu Shuangshuang let Erzhu go.

This was different from what Mu Shuangshuang and Yu Dahai had initially planned.

What Mu Shuangshuang and Yu Dahai had discussed was keeping Erzhu to monitor Mu Tou.

It just so happened that they had a fallout today.

Using Erzhu would definitely be more reliable than others, but Mu Shuangshuang changed her mind at the last minute.

She still decided to let Erzhu go!

As for the reason, she was temporarily not in a place to tell Yu Dahai.

Luckily, he didn’t ask!

”In the future, throw all the dirty and tiring work in the inn to Mu Tou. As for the kitchen, let’s find someone to make windows with bamboo, with sharp bamboo spikes on top so that no one can get close and peek at our skills!”

The kitchen is different from other places; the kitchen’s windows are always open. If someone is so inclined, they can stand at the windows and see what the people in the kitchen are doing.

Mu Shuangshuang thought that after renovating the windows, it would be difficult for Mu Tou to steal their skills!

”Alright, I’ll get to it right away!”

Yu Dahai went to find someone to make the windows, while Mu Shuangshuang went to the backyard to keep an eye on Mu Tou.

All day long, she didn’t allow Mu Tou to get anywhere near the kitchen.

Moreover, every corner of the restaurant’s mud was ordered to be cleaned by Mu Tou until it was spotless.

By the time everything was done, Mu Tou was so exhausted he was nearly paralyzed.

Coincidentally, it was time for Mu Shuangshuang to return to the countryside. After a few words with Huang Da at the restaurant, she hurried back home.

...

Afterward, Mu Shuangshuang naturally plunged into the kitchen to prepare dinner.

She had only cooked half the meal when someone burst into her courtyard.

”Shuangshuang, something bad has happened. Xing Beichen has beaten someone up; broken their head...”

Zhang Yutou shouted hurriedly in the courtyard.

Mu Shuangshuang put down the knife in her hand and came out.

Before she could ask what happened, Zhang Yutou said, ”Shuangshuang, go... go to Fu Wu’s house! If you delay, something big will happen!”

Mu Shuangshuang glanced at the meat she had just cut in the kitchen and shouted towards her home, ”Little Black, I’m going out for a bit. Keep an eye on the kitchen!”

After a while, a round, plump figure crawled out of a dog hole in Mu Shuangshuang’s house wall.

It poked its head out, looking carefully.

Only then did it saunter into the kitchen.

However, Mu Shuangshuang had no energy to pay attention to Little Black’s clumsy actions.

She hurried to Fu Wu’s house; by then, a lot of people were already standing at the gate of Fu Wu’s courtyard, watching the commotion.

Everyone was pointing and gossiping about the incident of Xing Beichen beating someone.

It turns out that today, Ma Houhou from Er Gui Village went to Fu Wu’s house, wanting Fu Wu to give him some fields, and good fields at that.

Fu Wu happily took the business.

The two arranged a time to view the fields. As Ma Houhou was being sent back, he mentioned something about Fu Xiaonan.

Fu Xiaonan’s reputation had already spread throughout some of the nearby villages.

She had a childhood sweetheart, but that person broke off the engagement with her.

Most importantly, the childhood sweetheart even brought the woman he kept outside to live right under the Fu family’s nose.

Miss Fu’s reputation was naturally not going to be good.

In all the villages nearby, Matchmaker Sun had visited countless people, but none were willing to marry Fu Xiaonan. Some even slammed the door on Matchmaker Sun once they heard it was about introducing Fu Xiaonan.

The Fu family had gone from being full of hope at the start to despair now!

So, when Fu Wu saw Ma Houhou ask about his daughter’s situation, he eagerly told him.

Just as he was speaking, Fu Xiaonan came out of the house wearing a pink dai dress with flower patterns adorning her hair.

Fu Xiaonan was already attractive, and when she was properly dressed up, she was like a blooming peach blossom, instantly catching Ma Houhou’s eye.

Ma Houhou immediately started salivating and told Fu Wu he wanted to marry Fu Xiaonan.

That’s when things took a turn.

Fu Xiaonan had dressed up today because Xing Beichen had invited her to go boating on the lake, to enjoy the lotus flowers.

When she hadn’t appeared for a while, Xing Beichen came over to check on the situation. He happened to overhear what Ma Houhou said, and without a word, started pummeling Ma Houhou!
