From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 1100: Chapter 1096: Forced Marriage Proposal (First Update)

After Lu Yuanfeng and Xing Beichen finished chatting, they each went to sleep.

Early the next day, they went to the third branch together.

Lu Yuanfeng planned to tell Shuangshuang about his decision and hear Shuangshuang’s opinion.

If Shuangshuang had no objection, they might pick a date soon to travel to the Northwest.

But before he could say anything, there was trouble with the Old Mu Family, including the third branch.

A group of burly men appeared in Old Mu Family’s courtyard, surrounding the yard’s walls.

They wouldn’t allow people outside to enter or people inside to leave.

Even Mu Shuangshuang’s house was affected.

Over twenty men were guarding the doors, the walls, and even the windows.

Each looked fierce and held tools, more like bandits than bandits!

Lu Yuanfeng and Xing Beichen walked up to the gate and began negotiating with Gao Tiezhu’s men.

”Brother, what are you doing? Why are you blocking our door?” Lu Yuanfeng asked politely.

”Humph, why! Your old man owes our Mr. Gao money and insulted our young lady, so what do you think we’re here for!” a guard shouted loudly.

”Are you saying Mr. Mu owes you money?” Lu Yuanfeng asked.

”Of course, fifty taels of patterned silver! It’s clearly written in black and white!”

The man appeared quite transparent.

Lu Yuanfeng looked as if he believed it wasn’t a lie.

Still, even if there is debt, they must find the right person.

”You guys got it wrong, this isn’t Old Mu Family’s place, this is the third branch, and they have split from Old Mu Family; they’re not even registered in the same household!” Lu Yuanfeng patiently explained.

But the man wouldn’t listen.

”I don’t care if you’ve split or not, our boss’s intention is to surround Old Mu Family’s yard and prevent any of you from going in or out!”

With such commotion, Mu Shuangshuang, who was making breakfast in the kitchen, quickly tidied the stove and poked her head out, asking Lu Yuanfeng and Xing Beichen.

”What’s going on? Why is it so noisy outside?” Mu Shuangshuang asked.

”Nothing, hurry back inside!” Lu Yuanfeng replied.

Mu Shuangshuang nodded, remembered she hadn’t finished making breakfast, and dashed back into the kitchen to continue.

In the kitchen, soon, the rhythmic sounds of chopping vegetables could be heard again.

Mu Shuangshuang was making dumplings for breakfast, needing to chop vegetables, prepare meat fillings, which all took time.

Yet making the breakfast appear more sumptuous was quite worth it.

Meanwhile, Mu Shuangshuang continued cooking as Lu Yuanfeng tried reasoning with the men.

Left talking, right talking, couldn’t communicate, Xing Beichen also got irritated.

He said, ”Fengzi, why don’t we just fight our way out!”

Xing Beichen believed with his skills and Fengzi’s capability, they could easily handle a guard blocking the gate.

Lu Yuanfeng shook his head, ”No! Gao Tiezhu is widely known as a rogue thug in the area and is ruthless in his ways.

I’ve decided to head Northwest and can’t leave any trouble for Shuangshuang.”

Xing Beichen thought about it, agreed Lu Yuanfeng was right; he was too impulsive.

”But we reason with them, and they don’t listen!” Xing Beichen said.

”If reasoning doesn’t work here, then let’s go to Old Mu Family’s main house to demand answers! After all, they are the ones who owe the money, logically, they should resolve it!”

——

At Old Mu Family, Mr. Mu paced anxiously around the house.

It’s about to be harvest season, yet they’re all confined in the house, who will do the work in the fields?

”Dad, please come up with an idea quick, Gou Dan is about to start school!” Mrs. Lin urged beside him.

Early in the morning, a group stormed into the house, cornering everyone in the backyard while forbidding them to set foot in the front yard.

”An idea? What idea? Why don’t you come up with an idea?” Old Mrs. Mu’s look was as if laced with poison.

Three consecutive questions pressed Mrs. Lin into silence.

Mu Dazhong went to Mountain Village to mine, Mu Danian was still asleep.

Mu Dajiang went early in the morning to fetch water from the village well and hadn’t returned, likely also blocked outside.

The more Mrs. Lin thought about it, the more frightened she became; she even began blaming those who initially borrowed money.

”Oh dear, what sin have we committed! Those fifty silver taels, we second branch didn’t use a penny, yet now the debt collection comes, and we’re blamed!”

”Dad, in my opinion, you shouldn’t have lent those twenty taels to Brother for the exam, I’ve heard from villagers that Brother didn’t even pass, that’s why they dare bully us!”

Recently, not only Mr. Mu was concerned about Mu Dade becoming Champion Scholar.

Even Mrs. Lin was concerned.

If Mu Dade became Champion Scholar, Old Mu Family would surely go to the Capital to enjoy prosperity.

If he didn’t, Mrs. Lin thought, perhaps she could still benefit somewhat.

But she didn’t gain any benefit...

Now it’s like this!

”You shut your mouth! When did it become your turn, Lin Xiaozao, to criticize your brother?” Old Mrs. Mu scolded Mrs. Lin again.

This time, Mrs. Lin got fed up.

Directly stormed out of the hall.

Since she wasn’t allowed out, she would sleep at home; after all, she wasn’t the one owing debt, Old Mu Family could do whatever!

With Mrs. Lin leaving, only Mrs. Liu and Mu Xiaxia from the fourth branch remained in the hall.

They were all waiting for Mr. Mu to come up with solutions.

Especially Mrs. Liu, very anxious.

Her husband was trapped outside, unable to return home.

”Fourth daughter-in-law, you take the child back to your room, I have matters to discuss with your mother.” Mr. Mu said.

Reluctantly, Mrs. Liu took Mu Xiaxia back to the fourth branch.

Mr. Mu took a drag from his dry tobacco and only spoke after a long pause.

”Old lady, from the looks of the Gao Family, it seems they’re really intent on marrying the daughter to the Fifth!”

”Humph, wanting to marry requires our consent first! Don’t forget, it’s my son with the handle, if the Fifth doesn’t want her daughter, how could they force him!”

Old Mrs. Mu’s words were crude.

But to Mr. Mu, they seemed reasonable.

Matters of mutual consent couldn’t be forced.

”True, Chen Hong is pregnant with the Fifth’s child!” Mr. Mu casually remarked.

But it aroused Old Mrs. Mu’s suspicion: ”You say, what’s going on with Chen Hong? While others are pregnant, she too is supposedly, others’ bellies grow day by day, why’s hers still the same as before?”

”Maybe she’s too thin?” Mr. Mu also noticed.

Chen Hong never lacked eat, drink, shit, sleep in daily life.

Why hadn’t she gained a few pounds?

”I don’t think so, once the Gao family matter is resolved, I’ll seek out that little wench for an explanation, see whether her belly actually has something, or is deceiving me.

If that hussy dares lie, I’ll surely rip her skin off!” Old Mrs. Mu cursed angrily.
