From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 1085: Chapter 1081: Lifting a Rock Only to Drop It on One’s Own Foot (Second Update)

When Mrs. Liu received the message from a staff member at Chengfeng Restaurant, she had already started having her household prepare for the birthday banquet.

The unexpected news caught her somewhat off guard.

She did not know exactly where the problem might have occurred.

By logic, this time she hadn’t given Mu Shuangshuang the guest list and deliberately invited many people.

On the premises, Chengfeng Restaurant couldn’t accommodate so many people, and without a guest list, it would be challenging to arrange seating...

”Godmother, what’s going on? Where are we actually going to hold your birthday banquet?” Mu Qingqing was also anxious.

She heard from the servants that the little girl seemed to have gotten everything set up.

How is that possible? The rundown restaurant has so little space.

Compared to the fidgety unease and confusion of Mrs. Liu and Mu Qingqing, Liu Chengzhi was much calmer.

He had been waiting for this day for a long time.

That woman did not disappoint him after all.

He said, ”Mother, since they have the venue ready, we should happily celebrate the birthday.

And haven’t they said this is something entirely new this time? Let’s see just how new it is!”

As soon as Liu Chengzhi spoke, Mrs. Liu had no room for regret.

She had no choice but to instruct the kitchen not to prepare.

If they hadn’t returned in an hour, all prepared things would be given to the nearby beggars to let them take home and enjoy.

The Liu family’s servants, upon hearing Mrs. Liu’s orders, were also somewhat looking forward to what the birthday banquet would be like today.

Unfortunately, Mrs. Liu didn’t bring many people this time.

Mrs. Liu was born at noon, so the birthday banquet was also held at noon.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen of the rented house, Mu Shuangshuang was busy making a cake with Lu Yuanfeng.

This item was certainly considered a novelty, and she was determined to make Mrs. Liu pay for what she had done before.

Right now, Lu Yuanfeng was helping Mu Shuangshuang knead the dough, listening to her explain how to make the cake.

Because it was something Lu Yuanfeng had never eaten, he listened very attentively.

By the time the two had finished making the cake, without even steaming it in the pot, more than half an hour had already passed.

Just then, a staff member also came to call Mu Shuangshuang, Mrs. Liu had arrived.

Mu Shuangshuang couldn’t leave, so she said to Lu Yuanfeng, ”Fengzi, you call Brother Yu to help entertain Mrs. Liu. If she doesn’t criticize you, that’s fine.

If she says bad things about you, don’t bother being polite, just give her a good talking to. We’ve already offended her anyway, no point worrying about offending her more!”

Lu Yuanfeng was compliant with Mu Shuangshuang’s words.

However, he also understood Shuangshuang’s nature; either explode in silence or perish in silence.

”Okay!” Lu Yuanfeng nodded and left the kitchen.

Mu Shuangshuang then started the fire, as the heat in cake-making was very important; she had secretly practiced at home before and had thought about selling cakes as a snack.

But the process was too complicated, and bulk production was difficult, so Mu Shuangshuang gave up on the cake business idea.

She focused on the restaurant venture.

As Mu Shuangshuang made the cake, Lu Yuanfeng and Yu Dahai were attending to Mrs. Liu.

From entering the restaurant’s backyard to the venue arranged by Mu Shuangshuang, Mrs. Liu maintained a smiling expression all along; after all, she was an old fox and had seen grand scenes before.

If she were easily intimidated by Mu Shuangshuang, she wouldn’t have been able to continue in the town.

”You have been very considerate. Why haven’t I seen Miss Shuangshuang?” Mrs. Liu looked around, greeted some familiar faces, but couldn’t see Mu Shuangshuang.

”Shuangshuang is preparing today’s main surprise for you, saying it must be something you haven’t eaten before!”

”Haven’t eaten before? I’m curious. Delicacies from the mountains and seas, rare treasures, whatever you can name, there’s nothing I haven’t tasted!

Even if the preparation’s different, as long as the ingredients are something I’ve tried, it doesn’t count as something I haven’t had.”

Mrs. Liu’s words, to Lu Yuanfeng and Yu Dahai, seemed like her last stand.

They smiled and didn’t argue much with Mrs. Liu.

But Mrs. Liu wasn’t willing to let them go that easily. She walked to the center of the gazebo where the fruits were placed and told the guests, ”Today is my birthday, different from the past. I chose Chengfeng Restaurant, which just opened in Qingshan Town this year.

Initially, I had many worries, and thought I would be disappointed just like everyone else. But the result—I’m quite satisfied. Chengfeng Restaurant’s arrangement is very novel.

Of course, there’s a fun thing. Just now, the steward and the owner of Chengfeng Restaurant told me that Miss Shuangshuang, the restaurant’s other owner, prepared something for me that I have never eaten.

Therefore, to thank her, I decided that... as long as what Miss Shuangshuang made is something I’ve never eaten, I’ll give her an extra fifty taels of Silver on top of what I owe for the feast!”

To some landlords present, fifty taels of Silver might not be much.

But to ordinary people, they could never earn that much in a lifetime.

Land costs four taels of Silver per mu, so fifty taels amount to twelve mu of land.

Twelve mu of land—how many farm families own twelve mu?

If rented out to average farmers, after deducting taxes to the court, it’s enough for a lifetime!

There were also some who wanted to please Mrs. Liu, and upon hearing she would pay, they chimed in, ”I’ll put in five taels. I’m curious about what Mrs. Liu hasn’t had!”

”Two taels...”

”Three taels...”

”Ten taels...”

A bidding war ensued, and just from the landlords, they collected over twenty taels.

Yu Dahai was stunned; the amount of Silver they gathered amounted to several days of the restaurant’s revenue, just from a few words!

Indeed, the world of the wealthy was beyond their understanding!

”Mr. Lu, Steward Yu, we’ve shown our stance. Shouldn’t Miss Shuangshuang also bring out that item?”

”Exactly, we’re all waiting. If it’s something we’ve had, we won’t pay!”

”How about this, if what the female owner brings out today is overrated, then the Liu family’s birthday banquet costs are waived. If not, we’ll pay as agreed!”

Someone in the crowd threw out this proposal.

Although Mrs. Liu did not immediately respond, the guests had already started clamoring.

Everyone seemed certain Chengfeng Restaurant couldn’t present anything genuinely new.

Yu Dahai remembered what Mu Shuangshuang told him before, so he nodded in front of everyone.

”We accept everyone’s proposal. As long as what our female owner presents isn’t new to Mrs. Liu, we won’t charge the Liu family a penny, considering it our birthday wish to Mrs. Liu!”

For the Liu family’s birthday banquet, Chengfeng Restaurant had actually invested a lot.

The restaurant staff hadn’t had a day off for a long time, and everyone worked day and night.

All for what Mu Shuangshuang referred to as the ”bonus” afterward.

For money, everyone had the motivation to work tirelessly; otherwise...
