From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 1056: Chapter 1052: Mu Xiangxiang’s Wedding (Third Update)

On the sixth day of the fifth month, it was Mu Xiangxiang’s wedding day.

Both the Old Mu Family and Sun Dali’s family paid special attention to today. Besides getting up early, they repeatedly checked everything that needed to be prepared, ensuring there were no mistakes before daring to use them.

The wedding feast on the bride’s side was just a meal during the noon! On the groom’s side, they invited the whole village, with meals arranged for three days, covering morning, noon, and night.

Yesterday, the Sun Family had the first table, adding today, and the day after tomorrow night is another day.

Last night, due to the Dragon Boat Festival, the Old Mu Family didn’t go, but tonight’s meal was the main one, and the entire Old Mu Family had to attend.

There’s only a single character difference between marrying a daughter and fetching a bride, but whether in terms of extravagance or the number of banquets, there’s a world of difference.

However, this can’t be helped, as the Da Ning Dynasty valued males over females, sons are treasures, daughters are like grass.

But for someone like Old Mrs. Mu, her two daughters, whether it was Mu Zhenzhen back then or Mu Xiangxiang now, aren’t comparable to ordinary families who marry off their daughters.

Early in the morning, the people hired from other villages to beat gongs and drums arrived.

Everyone was waiting at the Old Mu Family to have breakfast; only after breakfast did they start working.

In the backyard —

The group of women led by Old Mrs. Mu was anxiously pacing around.

The sun was almost up, yet there was no response from Mu Xiangxiang inside the room, no matter how they knocked on the door, she just wouldn’t get up.

Mu Xiangxiang had completely forgotten what Old Mrs. Mu said the day before.

”Mom, why don’t we break the door?” Mrs. Lin suggested to Old Mrs. Mu from the side.

As soon as she spoke, she received an eye-roll from Old Mrs. Mu: ”Today is Xiangxiang’s big wedding day, and you want to break the door and catch someone? What if you offend the spirits?”

”Well, there’s no other way, we can’t just sit here and wait! A lot of guests have arrived at the front, they are waiting for us to make an appearance!”

During family celebrations, Mrs. Lin loved to chat and gossip outside with the women, it’s better than hanging around in the backyard, watching Mu Xiangxiang put on makeup and wear the wedding dress!

Her Mu Xiangxiang wasn’t some celestial beauty; watching her put on makeup wasn’t as pleasant as watching herself get made up.

Mrs. Lin thought to herself.

”Humph, call you fat and you still breathe heavily, today unless Xiangxiang comes out, all you women stay in the backyard! Always thinking about those improper things, don’t have the self-awareness to see yourself, at your age, still want to steal the spotlight from our Xiangxiang!”

Old Mrs. Mu herself thought Mrs. Lin was eager to go out to pander— today was Mu Xiangxiang’s stage, how could a mother allow others to steal her daughter’s spotlight?

Mrs. Lin was so frustrated by Old Mrs. Mu’s sarcastic remarks that she rolled her eyes.

There was nothing she could do, she had to obediently wait for Mu Xiangxiang to wake up alongside Old Mrs. Mu.

Today they were hosting the entire village for the banquet, it was a large affair, so the chef wasn’t from the Old Mu Family, but hired from an outside village.

They spent a lot of money, but one of the benefits was that the people of the Old Mu Family didn’t have to cook, just help out a bit.

After waiting a while longer, and still no noise from the room, this time, Old Mrs. Mu was really anxious.

She started asking the other daughters-in-law if they had any ways to wake up Mu Xiangxiang.

Just when she asked Yu Si Niang, Mu Shuangshuang came over to watch the commotion.

To prevent her mother from getting into trouble with Old Mrs. Mu, she walked to Mu Xiangxiang’s door and shouted inside, ”Wow, delicious braised pork, sour, spicy, sweet, and salty, this sensation is unbelievable, the first ones up get to eat...”

”You rotten girl, what nonsense are you spouting, when is braised pork sour, only a fool would believe it, our Xiangxiang...”

Before Old Mrs. Mu could finish speaking, the door creaked open, and Mu Xiangxiang, sporting a messy bedhead, faced Old Mrs. Mu with eager eyes and said, ”Mom, I want to eat sour braised pork...”

This slap in the face came so fast, even Old Mrs. Mu blushed.

She was somewhat displeased with Mu Shuangshuang’s actions, but since it was her who uttered the slapping words, no matter how angry she was, no matter how much she wanted to teach Mu Shuangshuang a lesson, there was no reason.

So Old Mrs. Mu had to swallow her grievances.

She said to Mu Xiangxiang, ”Xiangxiang, don’t listen to that rotten girl’s nonsense, where do you find sour braised pork, today is your big wedding day, let mom groom you nicely, so we marry beautifully.”

Hearing there was no sour braised pork, Mu Xiangxiang was quite disappointed and not very willing to cooperate.

It was only after Old Mrs. Mu promised that she would make it for her afterward, that Mu Xiangxiang agreed to get her hair combed and wear the wedding dress.

Combing through a messy bedhead is a particularly challenging task, especially for someone like Mu Xiangxiang, rushing to get married.

Old Mrs. Mu was in such a hurry to comb that she almost broke a comb.

After that, her movements became much gentler as she stroked Mu Xiangxiang’s hair, while combing, she shared stories from Mu Xiangxiang’s childhood.

As a mother, when your child gets married, there are always some emotions.

”Xiangxiang, do you remember your childhood? You were chubby and loved to eat.

Your second brother loved eating too, but he was so mean; once, when he saw you eating mooncake in the yard, not only did he snatch your mooncake, but also hit you.

Mom was really angry back then, caught your second brother, and almost skinned him!”

Old Mrs. Mu’s recollections were nostalgic for her, but a nightmare for Mrs. Lin beside her.

Her husband was being bad-mouthed like this, one can’t ignore it as a daughter-in-law.

But even if she can’t take it, she has to endure; after all, this old woman is her mother-in-law.

”And when you were little, you loved wearing floral clothes, so mom would always save up money to buy red cloth for you. Over a dozen years have passed, and you’ve become a young lady!”

By this point, Old Mrs. Mu was choking up.

Mu Xiangxiang rarely argued with Old Mrs. Mu, probably having some feelings about these matters too!

Only Mu Shuangshuang found it sarcastic!

When marrying a daughter, Old Mrs. Mu indeed seemed like a mother, but towards the other branches, whether it’s the second branch she disliked or their own third branch.

In what way did she resemble a mother?

For such a blatantly favoritism mother, Mu Shuangshuang couldn’t bring herself to praise her.

Fortunately, the hair was finally combed, and people from the other branches could relax a bit.

In this section of Old Mrs. Mu’s recollection, mostly showcased the other branches being bullied and beaten.

Who wouldn’t feel uncomfortable?

Mu Xiangxiang’s wedding was a happy event for the Old Mu Family, but became a bitter time for the daughter-in-laws.

”Mom, for the makeup, we should specifically choose red, I heard from Matchmaker Sun that the redder it is, the wealthier you’ll become!”

After Old Mrs. Mu finished combing the hair, she was about to apply makeup on Mu Xiangxiang, and Mrs. Lin quickly seized the moment to divert Old Mrs. Mu’s attention.

Otherwise, the reminiscing would never end.

Sure enough, after listening to Mrs. Lin, Old Mrs. Mu focused her full attention on Mu Xiangxiang’s big face.

Layer after layer of rouge was applied, turning Mu Xiangxiang from a normal person into a monkey’s behind!

How ugly! thought Mu Shuangshuang.

However, led by Old Mrs. Mu, they all thought it was especially good. Everyone even added more rouge to Mu Xiangxiang’s face, making Mu Shuangshuang’s hair stand on end.

She told herself, when she marries Fengzi, she definitely would not use such a terrifying makeup style, like this, could Sun Dali even mouth the vows?
