From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 1087: Chapter 1083: Strikingly Similar Methods (Part 1)

A day apart feels like three years.

Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng spent three days in town, busy with the birthday celebration, and didn’t return home even at night.

Three days felt like three ’autumns’ to the third branch and Yuanbao. How could everyone not miss Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng after so long?

The children’s reactions were the most direct.

Little Zhi and Yuanbao rushed forward, each hugging one of Mu Shuangshuang’s legs, blinking their eyes at her continuously.

Xiao Han was always more reserved. With so many people around, he couldn’t possibly express his feelings of missing like Yuanbao and Little Zhi by hugging Mu Shuangshuang.

However, he stood very close to Mu Shuangshuang, his eyes fixed on her and Lu Yuanfeng, as if he couldn’t look enough.

”Sister Shuangshuang, we really missed you... and my second brother!”

Yuanbao’s sweet words made Mu Shuangshuang extremely happy.

She gently tapped Yuanbao’s head, lovingly saying, ”Little clever one, my second brother and I have brought you plenty of delicious treats. You can choose to eat them now or have them for breakfast tomorrow morning!”

The two cakes made in the morning, one given to Mrs. Liu, and the other half was shared with the inn staff.

The remaining half was brought home for the family to taste.

Upon hearing Mu Shuangshuang’s words, Yuanbao’s eyes lit up instantly. He tugged at Mu Shuangshuang’s dress, looking at her spiritedly, ”Sister Shuangshuang, we haven’t had dinner yet. Bring out the treats quickly, I want to eat now!”

”Oh my! At this hour, you still haven’t had dinner?” Mu Shuangshuang was shocked.

She and Lu Yuanfeng came back just as the sun was about to set, and when they arrived in the village, it was already completely dark.

Everyone had been waiting with empty stomachs all this time for her and Lu Yuanfeng.

”Shuangshuang, the children knew you were coming back today and insisted on waiting to eat with you. We couldn’t persuade them otherwise!” Mu Dashan came out to explain.

Yu Si Niang noticed the conversation was getting off track and quickly instructed, ”Alright, Fengzi and Shuangshuang have traveled so long, they must be hungry too. Let’s eat first!”

Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng were indeed hungry, and both didn’t stand on ceremony.

Mu Shuangshuang took the cake from the carriage and followed into her family’s small kitchen.

In the kitchen, dinner was laid out, seemingly just waiting for their return.

Mu Shuangshuang suddenly felt a warm glow in her heart.

”I just reheated the dishes, everything is warm. You and Fengzi, hurry up and eat!” Yu Si Niang said while picking up food for Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng.

In the earthenware bowl, a large portion of the meat slices was placed into their bowls.

The two stood up simultaneously, ”Mother, you all eat, please. Fengzi and I have been eating well in town; there’s no need to serve us more!”

Lu Yuanfeng added, ”Aunt Si, no need for me either!”

Yu Si Niang looked helplessly at them and suddenly said, ”There’s something I forgot to tell you.

The person named Xing Beichen who used to stay with Fengzi, he returned! Just the day after you went to town.”

Yu Si Niang’s words stirred a wave of surprise, leaving Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng stunned.

When Xing Beichen left, he promised them to return soon.

But it had been so long with no word from him.

Just when Mu Shuangshuang almost gave up hope on him, he unexpectedly reappeared.

It’s intriguing!

”Where is he now?” Mu Shuangshuang asked.

”At my place! My second brother isn’t here, I wouldn’t dare sleep at home alone. Initially, I planned to sleep with Xiao Han, but then Brother Beichen came and there was nowhere else for him to sleep, so I let him stay in my second brother’s room,” Yuanbao said.

”Did Brother Beichen eat?”

This time, it was Lu Yuanfeng who spoke.

”He did, I personally took some food over. The kids said they’d wait to eat dinner with you, but I was afraid Xing Beichen wouldn’t wait, so I sent him a separate bowl of rice.

He ate the same dishes as us, made from the same pot,”

Yu Si Niang explained to prevent any misunderstanding between Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng.

”Should we call him over?” Lu Yuanfeng asked Mu Shuangshuang.

”No need, we’ll bring him a piece of cake later. He’s probably had plenty of other snacks, so no need for more!”

Mu Shuangshuang said as she placed the cake on the table.

Making cakes in ancient times was not as convenient as today.

Modern-made cakes can be packaged in paper boxes, but in ancient times paper boxes couldn’t be found, and wooden boxes had their own strong odor.

So, after much consideration, Mu Shuangshuang decided to use the iron pot lid that previously covered the cake to hold half of it, then cover it with a large sea bowl.

Perhaps because the things Mu Shuangshuang brought back were wrapped too tightly, they instantly attracted everyone’s attention.

The moment the lid was lifted, Yuanbao swallowed hard.

Both cakes made by Mu Shuangshuang were double-layered, and to facilitate sharing with the family and inn staff, she had separated them when making the second one, so Yuanbao saw a round cake with some white stuff and finely cut fruits on top.

The white substance was indeed cream.

Mu Shuangshuang had read about it in books from her past life that the top layer of unprocessed milk was the milk fat used to make cream.

Milk fat was essential for making cream.

Long ago, Westerners would heat milk fat, place it in a container, and stir and beat it with a wooden stick for about half an hour, producing cream.

However, its texture and color were not as good as the cream made by modern machines.

As for the cake, in some ways, it held a subtle similarity to steamed buns.

With the right method, what was made wouldn’t be a steamed bun, but a cake.

Just making the cream from milk posed quite the challenge for Mu Shuangshuang, so she was not willing to mass-produce cakes.

”Sister Shuangshuang, can I eat now?” Yuanbao repeatedly licked his lips, looking utterly like a little gourmet.

Mu Shuangshuang laughed and nodded, taking out a knife to slice the cake into several portions.

Yu Si Niang took another bowl from the cabinet and a pair of chopsticks.

Everyone received their desired cake portion.

The cake was smoother and softer than steamed buns, topped with creamy frosting with a hint of sweetness. The children ate enthusiastically.

Mu Dashan and Yu Si Niang lavishly praised Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng.

In a while, everyone finished their portion.

(ps: Earlier, some readers mentioned where there was cream in ancient times. Initially, I wanted to simplify that part but decided to elaborate in case of queries. Found online, may not be 100% accurate, please forgive!)
