Lingering Doting Marriage: Big Boss, Little Sweet Heart

Chapter 1309: Chapter 1309: Indifference is the Best Slap in the Face Chapter 1309: Chapter 1309: Indifference is the Best Slap in the Face In fact, he was worrying needlessly.

Enna Clark had no intention of texting him in the first place.

She thought that since he specifically mentioned he’d be free after tomorrow afternoon, it meant he would be busy up until then, so she put her phone away, and after heading upstairs, she began to get busy with work.

The work intensity at Lawrence Headquarters was no small matter, and even as a newcomer, she didn’t receive any special treatment.

By the time she was done, it was already dark outside.

Enna Clark stretched languidly, giving her brain, which had been in overdrive all day, a moment’s rest.

“Dudu…”

Just then, her phone rang.

Enna Clark took out her phone and saw it was a call from Bobby.

“Hello?”

“Woman, when are you coming back? Don’t forget our promise!”

Enna Clark glanced at her watch. It was already past seven, heading for eight. She pushed back her chair, “I’ll be home soon, in about 30 minutes.”

“Good, I’ll wait for you.”

The other side hung up crisply, not sounding like a 7-year-old at all.

Enna Clark shook her head helplessly, packed up her stuff, shut down her laptop, and grabbed her bag to leave.

Some of the others had left, while some were still working overtime.

Just as Enna Clark reached the elevator, she ran into Kingston Howard and Luna.

Upon seeing her, Kingston Howard’s clear face broke into a warm smile, and he greeted her proactively, “Enna.”

“Director,” Enna Clark replied politely but distantly.

She wasn’t foolish; after more than a day’s interactions, she’d figured out why Luna had been so insistent on making her drink white liquor.

Sure enough, Luna gave a covert eye roll upon seeing her but still maintained a polite façade, greeting her with, “Enna, you’re just getting off work too? We were supposed to invite you to dinner, but I accidentally twisted my ankle and had to trouble the Director to take me home.”

Enna Clark caught the emphasis in her last sentence, but she didn’t care. She simply responded with a “Hmm” and ignored Luna, turning her head toward the elevator.

Kingston Howard, hearing Luna make their relationship sound so ambiguous, frowned imperceptibly. He wanted to explain, but upon instinctively gauging Enna Clark’s reaction and seeing that she seemed utterly indifferent, his words stalled in his throat.

His intuition told him that Enna Clark wouldn’t care for his explanation.

Because she was indifferent, whether he explained or not made no difference to her.

This realization was somewhat deflating for Kingston Howard.

The elevator arrived just then, and Enna Clark stepped in first, pressing the button for her floor.

Kingston Howard and Luna followed suit.

Luna was still gleeful, “Enna, let’s plan to have dinner another day, and have the Director treat us.”

Enna Clark was becoming annoyed, and she gave Luna a disinterested look, rejecting the offer, “I’m afraid I won’t have the time. I can’t make it.”

Luna wasn’t expecting such a blunt refusal and couldn’t find anything to say, managing only a sheepish, “Heh, is that so?”

Enna Clark had already turned away, ignoring her completely.

Luna’s face was metaphorically slapped, making it difficult for her to initiate conversation again.

When the elevator stopped at the underground garage, Enna Clark detachedly told the two, “My car is right over there, sorry, but I need to go first.”

With that, she opened the door of the Land Rover and climbed in.

Her Land Rover wasn’t a basic model but the latest one, and it was clear that Enna Clark’s was a high-end version.

Such a car would cost at least about 30 million.
