Chapter 399: Chapter 399: The Kitten Forced to Work

Captain Li? So this woman is my poop scooper’s direct boss?

The little kitten looked at the young woman in the front seat with a judging gaze. She looked about the same age as my poop scooper, had a pretty face and big eyes, and a much sharper vibe than my silly poop scooper.

Plus, those heavy fruits were way bigger than my poop scooper’s.

”Hmph! Can she go on missions dragging around such big burdens? Won’t they slow her down?” The little kitten stared hard at the fruits and grumbled with spite.

”No problem, just tie them up tight.” Captain Li spoke up out of nowhere.

Huh?

The little kitten raised her head in total shock, staring blankly at the young woman.

”Nice to meet you, I’m Li Yaran.” The young woman stayed calm and naturally held out her right hand.

The little kitten instinctively stuck out her paw and shook. Then, in disbelief, she said: ”You, you can understand me?”

”Yeah, I took animal talk as a side course during training at headquarters.” Li Yaran confirmed it. ”I’ve passed the level six exam.”

Damn animal talk level six!

The little kitten felt completely wrecked. What’s going on in this world? Why is there a fantasy class like animal talk? Never heard of it!

”Captain Li is so impressive. She passed the animal talk level six exam in just a few months.” Ye Rong looked full of envy and sighed. ”I have zero talent for it. I can’t talk to Li Li at all.”

”You can buy helper tools with special points. That makes learning way easier.” Li Yaran said without a change in expression. ”This cat of yours is special. I can approve it as your assistant.”

”Not, not ordinary?” The blonde girl blinked and looked at Qi Luoli. ”Is it one of those gifted rare special beasts?”

This world does have special beasts, but they’re super rare. Most live deep in the mountains and forests.

Every special beast has basic smarts and all kinds of different powers. They rarely clash with humans and hate being controlled by them.

Of course.

Some house pets can evolve into special beasts too. If they bond well with their owners, they’ll stick around and live together.

Across the whole country, there are only about two hundred recorded house special beasts. Compared to the huge population, that’s truly one in a million.

”Li Li is a special beast?” Ye Rong looked shocked too. As the poop scooper, even she didn’t know.

”Not even a normal special beast. You hit the jackpot.” A flash of awe crossed Li Yaran’s eyes, then she went back to her calm tone.

Normal special beasts do have basic smarts, but none would mock someone’s chest like this cat! That’s beyond basic. This cat is probably one with ancestral bloodline from the records.

Legend says a hundred years ago, one such ancestral special beast appeared in the Nanchuan area. It protected a region for decades, and no evil dared get close.

That shows just how powerful ancestral special beasts are.

Even Li Yaran, captain of the regional special ops team, really wanted one as her assistant. But clearly, lady luck smiled more on Ye Rong.

She felt envious inside, sure. But no jealousy. She was happy her teammate had such a great helper.

”Li Li, are you really that strong?” Ye Rong stared at her little kitten in surprise, jaw dropped. ”But when I first picked it up, it was scared of mice!”

”Shut up quick! Don’t bring up my embarrassing past!” The little kitten reached out her paw to cover her mouth, but it was too short.

”Maybe it just awakened recently. You need to train it more.” Li Yaran thought for a bit. ”Special beasts grow through battles built up over time. A too comfy life will kill their fighting spirit.”

What does it mean a too comfy life kills fighting spirit?

Qi Luoli didn’t catch it at first, then it hit her. Oh man, that means no more chilling out? What about what I want? Just ignored?

”Yeah, I get it!” Ye Rong nodded, her eyes turning firm.

Lazy Kitten: Done for, done for, I’m toast! Big news, everyone!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: ?

Doujin Artist: What’s going on?

Curly-haired Guy: Did your poop scooper take you to get neutered?

Lazy Kitten: Bullshit! You’re the one getting neutered! Your whole family!

Machete Girl: Hahaha, the little kitten is super mad.

Lazy Kitten: Already pissed off, and this guy talks crap! Back on track, I might get forced to work! So damn frustrating!

Amegakure Village’s Angel: Huh? What kind of work?

Lazy Kitten: My poop scooper thinks I’m a rare special beast now. Wants me to fight to grow stronger. Says a too comfy life will make me lose my edge! I’m losing it!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: This... how’d you become a special beast? You’re just a normal little kitten, right?

Lazy Kitten: Because of my complaining. I griped that my poop scooper’s captain has huge headlights that mess up fighting! Then that woman turned the tables on me! Damn, I slipped up!

Machete Girl: Humans can understand you too?

Lazy Kitten: She’s animal talk level six. How crazy is that? Suddenly humans know animal talk? What’s this world turning into next?

Doujin Artist: It’s not so bad. Just means join some fights. You’re not a special beast, but you’re definitely not weaker than them.

Lazy Kitten: It’s not about fighting or not. It’s about forcing me! I can fight if I choose to! But don’t exploit me just cuz I’m strong! You need your own drive to hustle, not get your head pushed into work!

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: That’s true. Forcing you into labor. Just ignore them then. Worst case, run away from home.

Lazy Kitten: Nah, not that extreme... whatever, whatever. I’ll pretend it’s voluntary work to earn my keep.
