Chapter 114 - 114: Invasion of the Swarm

Doujin Artist: The thing we were worried about still happened. [Image]

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: Wait, has that mutated creature outbreak on Eriri’s side already reached the point where they’re swarming into human cities?

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Are those... bugs?

Saten Ruiko knew that Eriri’s world had been undergoing spiritual revival, where animals were mutating far beyond normal. But even so, the sight of those massive, black insects in the photo still left her shaken.

They looked like a mix of locusts and beetles—their heads and legs resembled locusts, but their bodies were covered in thick black shells. Each was the size of a calf, and their mouthparts looked like two sharp, icy saw blades.

Doujin Artist: Yeah. They landed near Sixth Street, and now they’re already close to our school.

Chaos.

Right now, Toyogasaki Private Academy had completely fallen into panic.

Faced with the swarm, the teachers and students were like headless chickens—running around wildly, screaming, trying desperately to escape. Cries and shouts echoed through the air.

”Stay close, Eriri.” Even Kasumigaoka had lost her usual sarcastic tone and spoke with a serious look. ”Let’s go find Senpai and meet up with him.”

”Okay.” Eriri nodded slightly after glancing at the terrifying bugs flying outside the window.

Even if they couldn’t be a couple, they were still friends. She didn’t want to see Aki Tomoya in danger.

Machete Girl: So doesn’t that mean Miss Eriri’s in serious danger right now?

Doujin Artist: Not really. I can still protect myself. Plus, these bugs don’t seem that interested in attacking people? It’s weird—they’re mostly just flying around in the air.

This is an Actor: Maybe they have another reason for invading the city?

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: No way! Are you saying... these bugs are smart?

This is an Actor: Not necessarily smart. It could just be instinct—like how locusts migrate or ants build nests. Those are just natural behaviors.

Soul Society’s Villain: Instinct, huh? The group leader’s guess makes sense, but with mutated creatures like this, who can really say what their instincts or habits are?

This is an Actor: Right. Any real scientific conclusion takes time to study and observe.

Curly-haired Guy: More than that, I want to know what Eriri’s local government is doing. Something this big happens and there’s no warning?

Doujin Artist: No clue. No one at our school told us anything.

Amegakure Village’s Angel: Eriri-chan, maybe you should start a livestream. That way if something dangerous happens, people can help you right away.

[System Message: Doujin Artist has started a livestream.]

[System Message: Amegakure Village’s Angel, This is an Actor, Soul Society’s Villain, and six other members have joined the stream.]

The camera turned on, and Eriri appeared on screen with her signature blonde twin-tails.

Her pretty face looked calm, and she didn’t seem to be hurt at all. She gave a small wave to the screen as a greeting.

Doujin Artist: Hold on, switching to theater mode.

The image changed from a close-up to a wide shot. Everyone in the chat could now clearly see the chaos in the school.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: So many bugs!

The sky was packed with giant black insects flying everywhere. But most of them didn’t seem to have any real goal. They completely ignored the panicking people running around below.

Only a few that had landed were using their powerful jaws to chew through and destroy the school’s infrastructure—biting through wires, knocking over lamp posts, even ripping apart trash bins and benches near the school gate.

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: This is so weird. What are these bugs even trying to do? They make such a huge scene just to trash the school?

Machete Girl: Yeah, it doesn’t make any sense.

Amegakure Village’s Angel: At least they don’t seem interested in eating people. That’s a relief.

Curly-haired Guy: Wait a sec. Am I the only one who noticed that the system message said ”eight members joined”? What happened to calling me by name? Are you saying I, Gin-san, don’t even deserve a name anymore?

Doujin Artist: Wow, Gin actually figured it out! You guessed the truth?

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Hahaha, maybe it’s one of those rare moments of brilliance?

Curly-haired Guy: What are you laughing at, idiot?! You’re just like me—nameless in the chat!

Shark-Faced Guy: Then maybe Gin-san should go have a talk with the system and ask it to give you your name back?

Curly-haired Guy: Hmph, I’ll let it go today!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Not bad, Gin-san! You may lose the fight, but never lose face. Letting it go this time is a classy move!

Amegakure Village’s Angel: Aririn, where are you going?

Doujin Artist: To find Tomoya Aki. Kasumigaoka’s worried something might have happened to him, so she’s dragging me along to meet up with him.

This is an Actor: That’s the smart thing to do.

Doujin Artist: Ahem, don’t get the wrong idea. There’s nothing going on between me and Tomoya, we’re just friends at best.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Huh? Why are you explaining it like that, Aririn? That’s kinda suspicious!

Curly-haired Guy: Yeah, very suspicious. Why the need to explain?

*Swish.*

Eriri’s face turned red in an instant: ”I-I just didn’t want you guys to get the wrong idea! To think I haven’t gotten over Tomoya—that’s all!”

Machete Girl: That doesn’t add up. You just told Kasumigaoka ”don’t misunderstand”... not ”don’t misunderstand, everyone.”

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Hahaha, Kotonoha caught the weak spot! Aririn, you still gonna keep denying it?

Doujin Artist: Shut up! I-it’s not what you think!

Curly-haired Guy: What do we think, huh? Say it out loud.

Doujin Artist: Damn it! Those bugs don’t even hurt people, so why am I worried about that guy Tomoya? There’s no reason to be!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Nice try changing the subject, Aririn. That was quick.

This is an Actor: I don’t think they *can’t* hurt people. I think they just haven’t broken some kind of balance yet.

”Balance”?

Eriri froze for a second and was about to ask what he meant—when suddenly, *bang bang bang*—a series of gunshots rang out from outside the school.
