Nine Dragons Saint Ancestor

Chapter 140: 140 Fake task items?

”Explanation?”

Suddenly hearing Qin Wang’s deep inquiry and sensing the unusual gazes around him, Yun Xiao seemed somewhat puzzled by the meaning of the words and raised his head to question in return.

”Steward Qin Wang, this Fire Spirit Crystal was indeed obtained from a Third Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Snake. The task didn’t specify the grade of the Fire Spirit Crystal needed, did it?”

Yun Xiao’s face carried a hint of bewilderment, which made Qin Wang pause slightly as he recalled the description of the low-level Spiritual Rank task, finding himself momentarily at a loss for words.

”You’re talking nonsense!”

Before Qin Wang could respond, Feng Hang on the other side couldn’t restrain himself and interjected sharply, saying, ”Everyone knows that Fire Spirit Snakes only appear once a year, and the one that appeared this time was a Fourth Rank Low Level. Don’t try to deceive us!”

Feng Hang spoke a fundamental truth. Even if the younger Outer Disciples didn’t fully understand, Qin Wang certainly did, and he also knew that the task involving the Fire Spirit Crystal occurred annually, though the Level of the task changed each year.

For instance, obtaining a Fire Spirit Crystal from a Third Rank Fire Spirit Snake would normally only constitute a Mortal Rank task, but this time the task released was a low-level Spiritual Rank task, undeniably indicating that the Fire Spirit Snake that appeared this year had reached Fourth Rank Low Level.

In fact, Guan Tong, Shen Xiao, and Feng Hang had all personally witnessed this, and moreover, the Fourth Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Snake was slain by the joint efforts of these two top talents on the Mortal List.

Yet Yun Xiao had the audacity to fabricate here, claiming that this was obtained from a Third Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Snake, a point that neither Feng Hang nor Shen Xiao would believe.

If it was not a Fourth Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Crystal, then Feng Hang, who was slightly farther away, felt even more confident that Yun Xiao was merely filling in the numbers, unsure how this youngster had managed to deceive Qin Wang with his tricks. But with the Steward of the Task Hall’s capabilities, it shouldn’t take long to expose Yun Xiao’s schemes, right?

Spurred by Feng Hang’s stern shout, Qin Wang also came back to his senses, his voice deepening further as he said, ”Yun Xiao, I ask you once again, where exactly did you obtain this crystal? Fabricating task items is a grave offense; think carefully before you respond!”

Hearing Qin Wang’s voice, Zhao Ningshu and Cao Luo felt a wave of satisfaction, thinking that this near-demonic youngster was finally about to face a setback. If the crime of fabricating task items were proven, this youngster might even be expelled from the Outer Sect of the Jade Pot Sect.

”Fabricating task items?”

Yun Xiao could naturally not bear the accusation of such a crime. At that moment, he directly raised his head, his expression still puzzled as if he barely understood those few words.

”Steward Qin Wang, I ask you, where do you see that this Fire Spirit Crystal is fabricated?”

Yun Xiao stared at Qin Wang, not at all intimidated by this Peak of Meridian Rushing Realm and respectable cultivator, instead mockingly retorted, causing the expressions of the people nearby to become even stranger.

Seeing Yun Xiao’s decidedly confident demeanor, Qin Wang felt somewhat uncertain, once again employing his Power of Soul to closely sense the Fire Spirit Crystal in hand, ultimately arriving at a conclusion.

”This Fire Spirit Crystal is indeed genuine, but it is Third Rank Low Level. How can it be used as an item for a low-level Spiritual Rank task?”

Qin Wang’s eyes also filled with confusion as he spoke to Yun Xiao, and his point was indeed logical. A Third Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Crystal, corresponding to a Third Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Snake, could probably be handled by some cultivators at the Meridian Gathering Realm level, right?

The Task Hall always issued tasks corresponding to appropriate levels; a Spiritual Rank task corresponds either to Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures of the Spiritual Rank or some Fourth Rank Strange Spirit treasures, and this had never changed.

But Yun Xiao didn’t care about those rules, following Qin Wang’s words by saying, ”Since this indeed is a Fire Spirit Crystal, then this task of mine should also be considered completed, right? Besides, the task has never specified which grade of Fire Spirit Crystal was needed!”

”But, this...”

Faced with Yun Xiao’s remarks, Qin Wang found himself unable to refute, because the task description truly had not mentioned the grade of the Fire Spirit Crystal.

Was it an oversight by the person issuing the task? After pondering for a while, Qin Wang dismissed this guess and had already figured out where the problem lay.

It was because the Fire Spirit Crystal could only be found within the body of a Fire Spirit Snake, and only one Fire Spirit Snake would appear within a year, and the strength of this Fire Spirit Snake followed a certain pattern.

For example, this year, the Inner Sect Elders, after years of research, clearly knew that the Fire Spirit Snakes appearing this year could only be of the Fourth Rank Low Level. Given this uniqueness, was there even a need to specify the grade of the Fire Spirit Crystals? They would definitely be of the Fourth Rank Low Level.

The issuer of this Spiritual Rank Low Level task is obviously very familiar with these details, hence there was no special mention of the grade of Fire Spirit Crystals. As long as the task is completed, the returned Fire Spirit Crystal would certainly be a Fourth Rank Low Level.

However, Feng Hang didn’t expect this, Qin Wang didn’t expect this, and likewise, the issuer of the Spiritual Rank Low Level task didn’t foresee that this year, the Fire Spirit Snakes indeed would be Fourth Rank Low Level, and the initial Fire Spirit Crystals Yun Xiao obtained were also Fourth Rank Low Level. Yet, a series of unexpected events occurred.

The Fourth Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Crystal was devoured by a strange Golden Snake Worm inside Yun Xiao’s body, and the Fire Cloud Rat Chi Yan he encountered by chance had stored three Fire Spirit Crystals of various grades within its body.

This led to the completion of a Spiritual Rank Low Level task, originally not expected to have any surprises, with a mere Third Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Crystal by Yun Xiao.

This cannot be said to be an oversight by the task issuer, because no one could have foreseen such an incident. Perhaps even the heavens were favoring Yun Xiao, giving him some compensation after the Fourth Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Crystal disappeared unexpectedly.

”Hey, I say, Steward Qin Wang, in such a large Task Hall, you wouldn’t even default on these mere two thousand points, right? That would really not befit the grand stature of the Jade Pot Sect!”

Seeing Qin Wang still hesitating, Yun Xiao struck while the iron was hot, raising this issue to a matter of the Jade Pot Sect’s face. However, upon his words, many Outer Disciples couldn’t help but curl their lips.

For these Outer Disciples, apart from Feng Hang and Shen Xiao, the tasks they usually took on were at most of Mortal Rank Advanced, and the highest reward points for such tasks were up to eight hundred points at most.

Here Yun Xiao referred to the two thousand points reward as ”mere,” which for them was somewhat unfair, so they all cursed in their hearts that Qin Wang should ignore Yun Xiao’s exaggerated statements and deem the Spiritual Rank Low Level task as a failure.

Especially Zhao Ningshu, Cao Luo, and Xuan Zhi, those who harbored grudges against Yun Xiao, if that guy really used a Third Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Crystal to complete a Spiritual Rank Low Level task, it would undoubtedly make them spit blood in anger.

But no matter how these Outer Sect geniuses cursed in their hearts, Qin Wang was still considered a fair steward of the Task Hall. Seeing him walk in a certain direction and meticulously reading the task description hanging on the task wall several times, he finally accepted this reality.

”Yun Xiao, Spiritual Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Crystal task perfectly completed, reward two thousand points!”

When Qin Wang returned to the wooden desk with a somewhat complex expression and announced this result, the expressions of everyone in the Task Hall turned quite peculiar.

Among these expressions, there was envy, jealousy, dissatisfaction, and anger, especially people like Xuan Zhi and Feng Hang, who couldn’t accept this outcome at all. How could that kid be so lucky?

But no matter how discontented Feng Hang and the others felt inside, they didn’t dare to question the decision made by Task Hall Steward Qin Wang at this moment, because that would equate to questioning the fairness of the Task Hall, and they definitely didn’t want to provoke that misfortune.

In fact, not only them, but even Qin Wang felt a sense of unreality after announcing the result. Having served as a steward in the Task Hall for many years, he had never seen someone completing a Spiritual Rank Low Level task with a Third Rank Low Level Fire Spirit Crystal.

Since it was already an established fact, Qin Wang didn’t say much more. He took out a brand-new points card from his Waist Storage and transferred two thousand points onto it.

However, when Qin Wang handed the points card containing two thousand points to Yun Xiao, he suddenly remembered that this scrappy-dressed kid was not an old genius of the Jade Pot Sect’s Outer Sect, but a newcomer who had just joined and didn’t even have a points card yet.

At this moment, Qin Wang was struck with another realization; let alone the strangeness of Yun Xiao’s completion of the Spiritual Rank Low Level task, since his entrance into the Jade Pot Sect, he had never seen any new Outer Disciple, during their first mission, succeed in completing a Spiritual Rank Low Level task.

Previously, there had also been new Outer Disciples, either overly ambitious or wanting to make a name for themselves, who took on Spiritual Rank Low Level tasks, but none of them had ever truly completed such tasks.

Their final outcome was to end up with no points to deduct, assigned to labor in arduous locations to repay the points they owed, overreaching themselves naturally comes with a price.

But this young fellow named Yun Xiao, looking younger than any other Outer Disciple, had completed a task that everyone deemed impossible.

Moreover, Qin Wang subtly thought that today, as an Outer Disciple who had just joined for two months, completing this Spiritual Rank Low Level task might already have set a record in the Jade Pot Sect.

Such an achievement, even those spectacular geniuses in the Inner Sect, couldn’t possibly complete at Yun Xiao’s age, could they?

From this moment on, Yun Xiao had entered the radar of this Task Hall steward, and it wouldn’t be long before he would swiftly report this incident to the influential figure behind him, that is, the Third Elder of Jade Pot Sect. Perhaps, more unforeseeable events were yet to come.
