The Sword God of the Universe

Chapter 438: Chapter 438 Scared Silly [First Update]

Chief Su was a Dao Spirit Realm martial artist himself and also the Chief Manager of the Haofeng City Lord Mansion. He was quite experienced and worldly.

Yet!

When he saw the message delivered from Lanqu County City, his entire body still shook uncontrollably, and he couldn’t help but cry out in shock.

The information about Jing Yan was terrifying!

His face underwent a drastic change as he took a deep breath.

”City Lord,” Chief Su gasped. ”We were on the brink of making a huge mistake. Thank heavens the Song Family Patriarch intervened. Otherwise...”

He simply couldn’t bear to continue the thought.

That martial artist named Jing Yan was indeed not someone Haofeng City Lord Yuan Jihu could afford to provoke!

Swoosh! Without daring to delay, Chief Su hurried at top speed to meet with City Lord Yuan Jihu.

”City Lord!” Inside the residence where Yuan Jihu lived, Chief Su quickly strode in from outside.

”Mm, did you find out?” Yuan Jihu glanced at Chief Su and asked indifferently. Two days had already passed; it was about time for some news.

”Yes, the information has arrived,” Chief Su nodded and said, ”This person’s name is Jing Yan, and he is a martial artist from the Jing Family of Donglin City.”

”Donglin City?” Yuan Jihu’s expression tightened.

As the City Lord of Haofeng, he naturally knew of Donglin City. He was aware of every one of the several hundred cities within Lanqu County City. Donglin City was just a small city within Lanqu County City’s territory, and Haofeng City itself was a level higher than Donglin City.

”A martial artist from a small city, a minor family?” A sharp glint flashed in Yuan Jihu’s eyes.

”Correct! However, the current Jing Yan is a student at Dao Yi Academy. This person has a huge reputation within Dao Yi Academy!” Chief Su continued.

”Mm!” Yuan Jihu nodded, ”A student from Dao Yi Academy; that’s not much!”

It was normal for Jing Yan to be well-known in Dao Yi Academy, given his abilities.

”Not only is he a student of Dao Yi Academy, but he is also a Pill Master with the Alchemist Association. This person has not just immense martial arts talent but also great achievements in the Alchemy Dao!” Chief Su added.

”What? He is also a Pill Master?” Surprise showed on Yuan Jihu’s face.

On the Heavenly Origin Continent, Pill Masters were indeed a rare breed. Within Haofeng City, Dao Spirit Realm martial artists numbered quite a few, but Pill Masters? There were only two, and one was a disciple of the other. Generally, unless absolutely necessary, martial artists really didn’t want to conflict with Pill Masters.

”How old is this person called Jing Yan?” Yuan Jihu thought of the words spoken by the Song Family Patriarch, who had said that Jing Yan’s true age matched his appearance.

”The information lists Jing Yan’s age at around twenty,” Chief Su said with a serious expression.

Hearing this, Yuan Jihu swiftly stood up from his chair, his expression odd.

Although he had braced himself for it, hearing Chief Su state Jing Yan’s age still made Yuan Jihu’s heart uncontrollably pound with great force!

Twenty!

Damn, he really was around twenty years old. At twenty, to possess Dao Spirit Realm cultivation, and to match the Song Family Patriarch in strength, not falling short of himself, the City Lord of Haofeng.

What kind of freak was this Jing Yan? What was the Jing Family of Donglin City? How could such a monstrous figure emerge from this family?

For a while, the room became silent. Chief Su too remained quiet, not immediately continuing. Yuan Jihu, the City Lord, probably needed some time to digest this news.

At this point, Yuan Jihu was certain that the Song Family Patriarch hadn’t deceived him. That Jing Yan was indeed around the age of twenty.

It took several breaths before Yuan Jihu let out a deep exhale and looked back at Chief Su.

”What kind of family is the Jing Family of Donglin City?” Yuan Jihu was immensely curious.

”The Jing Family isn’t particularly remarkable. Donglin City is just a small city within Lanqu County. Within the city, the Jing Family is quite a large clan. Not long ago, the Jing Family fought a major battle against another family in Donglin City and ultimately annihilated them. Now, the Jing Family is the foremost clan in Donglin City. However, besides Jing Yan, there is no second Dao Spirit Realm martial artist within the family!”

”That doesn’t seem too powerful a background!” Yuan Jihu nodded, ”Let’s do this: call this Jing Yan over and have another talk with him. He is a student at Dao Yi Academy and a Pill Master with the Alchemist Association. If he is willing to submit and admit his fault, then let’s drop the matter of him killing people from the Song Family!”

Yuan Jihu was ready to compromise.

”City Lord, there’s one more thing you should know. Even though Jing Yan’s family isn’t very strong, he has a powerful supporter behind him!” Chief Su shook his head and said.

”What kind of big supporter?” Yuan Jihu’s eyes widened.

”He has a very close relationship with Mu Liantian, Chief Manager of the Prince Manor. According to the information we’ve received, Jing Yan comes and goes from Mu Liantian’s Manager’s Mansion as if it was his own home,” said Chief Su.

Hearing this, Yuan Jihu’s expression darkened slightly. Of course, he knew of Mu Liantian, the Prince Manor’s Chief Manager with immense authority. It wasn’t just him as Haofeng City Lord; even the lords of the largest cities within Lanqu County would have to show deference to Mu Liantian.

”This Jing Yan has a close relationship with Mu Liantian, and at the same time, he has done a favor for the Prince. What kind of favor, the information doesn’t show. However, from one detail, we can infer something. The Prince holds this Jing Yan in very high regard!” Chief Su spoke slowly.

”Which detail?” Yuan Jihu raised an eyebrow and looked at Chief Su who instinctively asked.

By the time he heard that Jing Yan’s relationship with Mu Liantian was out of the ordinary, he had already completely abandoned the idea of dealing with Jing Yan. This Jing Yan was definitely an existence he couldn’t afford to provoke and if he foolishly continued to trouble Jing Yan, he might very well end his tenure as City Lord. Although Mu Liantian couldn’t directly dismiss a city’s City Lord, Mu Liantian was the Chief Manager of the Prince Manor, and if he were to badmouth before the Prince, removing him as City Lord would be a matter of a single sentence.

Then he heard that even the Prince owed Jing Yan a favor, and it almost numbed his heart.

”The previous City Lord of Donglin City disappeared a while ago and has not returned. So Donglin City is in need of a new City Lord. The Wen Family from Commandery City has been pulling strings in secret and spent a great deal of resources wanting to have someone from the Wen Family take the position,” Chief Su’s voice trembled slightly.

This last point was the most astonishing. When he had just seen the message, it was this last detail that had made him exclaim in shock.
