The Sword God of the Universe

Chapter 396: Chapter 396: The New City Lord of Donglin City Chapter 396: Chapter 396: The New City Lord of Donglin City Upon hearing what Jing Chengye said, the expressions of the elders subtly changed.

Although everyone knew that what was to come would eventually arrive, when it truly did arrive, no one could remain calm.

A special envoy from the Prince Manor had come to Donglin City, clearly to announce the appointment of the new city lord.

Perhaps, the new city lord had also arrived with him.

Once the appointment of the city lord was announced, the new city lord would immediately assume control over Donglin City.

“Clan Leader, has the special envoy already arrived in Donglin City?” The Jing Family’s Second Elder asked with a grave expression.

“Yes, he has already reached the outskirts of Donglin City.

He should be about to enter the city by now!” Jing Chengye nodded.

“The new city lord, could it really be that elder from the Wen Family?”

During this period, the Jing Family had also received news that the likely new city lord was an elder from the Wen Family.

The Wen Family was the backing force behind the now-destroyed Zhao Family, which was a rival force to the Jing Family.

During the great battle between the Jing Family and the Zhao Family, two Dao Spirit Realm masters from the Zhao Family had come to aid the Zhao Family.

If an elder from the Wen Family were to become the Donglin City Lord, it was foreseeable that the days ahead for the Jing Family would be challenging.

Though the Jing Family now virtually controlled Donglin City, a city lord was still a city lord, possessing a large force of Armored Guards along with an official status, which was enough to limit the development of the Jing Family or even gradually lead them to decline.

“Let’s take it one step at a time.”

“Even if the elder from the Wen Family becomes the city lord, so what?

Not long ago when the Zhao Family waged war against us, who thought that the Jing Family would prevail?

In the end, wasn’t it the Zhao Family that got wiped out?”

“Right!

It won’t be so easy to mess with our Jing Family!

Currently, our Jing Family has dozens of Innate Realm martial artists, and we will surely exceed a hundred in the future.

Even the city lord can’t simply ignore the power of our Jing Family.”

“…”

Everyone discussed amongst themselves.

“Gentlemen, come with me to the City Lord Mansion to welcome them,” Jing Chengye said resolutely.

He had called all the family elders together to prepare to visit the City Lord Mansion with them to welcome the special envoy and to see who the new city lord might be.

If it indeed was the elder from the Wen Family, they would need to plan accordingly!

“Okay!”

“Good, let’s go welcome the special envoy and the new city lord.”

Jing Chengye and the Jing Family elders all left the family estate and headed to the City Lord Mansion.

Other families in Donglin City also soon received news of this matter, and some covert discussions began to ferment and spread throughout the city.

Currently, in Donglin City, no one and no force could directly confront the Jing Family.

Many large and small families obediently kept to themselves, but to say that all families were wholeheartedly aligned with the Jing Family would be self-deceptive.

Among these, several families hoped for the downfall of the Jing Family.

These families were also awaiting the arrival of the new city lord.

Outside the City Lord Mansion, Jing Chengye and the others quietly waited.

Even Lv Qin and Shi Xuan stepped out of the City Lord Mansion.

Once the new city lord arrived, they would have to leave the City Lord Mansion.

Finally, a Sky Swallow Car slowly approached and stopped in front of everyone.

A middle-aged martial artist in his forties to fifties stepped down from the coach.

He was the special envoy from the Prince Manor coming to Donglin City to announce the choice for the new city lord.

This man was known to Jing Yan.

When he had accompanied Mu Liantian to the Prince Manor, he had seen this man outside the reception hall.

Afterwards, when Jing Yan had finished his alchemy, it was this man who had taken Jing Yan to see Prince Zhou Shangyun.

“Esteemed sir, have you come from Lanqu County City?” Jing Chengye and the others quickly approached to greet him.

Jing Chengye, with a salute, asked.

“My name is Zhou Che, and I come from the Prince Manor,” Zhou Che looked at Jing Chengye and the others, smiling as he spoke.

“Are you all members of the Jing Family?” Zhou Che had naturally done some research on Donglin City before his arrival.

Zhou Che also knew that Jing Yan was a member of the Jing Family.

Now, the Prince treated Jing Yan with great respect and had even appointed a Jing Family elder as the Donglin City Lord because of Jing Yan.

Thus, in front of the Jing Family, Zhou Che did not put on any airs, but rather appeared very approachable.

Hearing Zhou Che’s tone, Jing Chengye and the others felt slightly relieved.

From the sounds of it, the special envoy seemed quite friendly toward the Jing Family!

Jing Chengye looked at Zhou Che and then at the Sky Swallow Car.

No second person came down from the carriage.

Could it be that the new city lord hadn’t come with the special envoy?

Thoughts rapidly spun in his mind, Jing Chengye quickly spoke up, “I am Jing Chengye, the Clan Leader of the Jing Family.

It’s a pleasure to meet Special Envoy Zhou Che.”

“Hehe, no need for formalities,” Zhou Che said with a wave of his hand and a smile.

“I am here because the former city lord of Donglin City, Huo Chunyang, has been missing for several months, and Donglin City needs a new city lord to manage affairs.

Therefore, I have brought the Prince’s appointment decree for the new city lord,” Zhou Che explained slowly.

Jing Chengye and the others remained silent, waiting for Zhou Che to continue.

Zhou Che turned his palm slightly, and then, a golden booklet appeared.

This booklet, it is the appointment letter for the New City Lord of Donglin City.

Jing Chengye and others seemed calm on their faces, but they couldn’t help feeling a bit nervous inside.

If the new City Lord was from the Wen Family, the Jing Family would have to prepare for a long-term struggle.

Speaking of which, even though the Jing Family’s strength was strong now, a confrontation with the City Lord Mansion might ultimately end in the Jing Family’s defeat.

“Now, I shall read out the Prince’s appointment of the Donglin City Lord!”

“Lanqu County City Prince Zhou Shangyun, appoints Jing Tianying from the Jing Family, as the new City Lord of Donglin City.” Zhou Che’s voice reached everyone’s ears present.

The appointment letter was very short, containing only this one sentence.

But when Jing Chengye and the others heard this sentence, their eyes widened.

It was simply unbelievable, somewhat like they were dreaming.

The new City Lord, Jing Tianying?

Jing Tianying, standing behind Jing Chengye, also wore a face of astonishment; he had never thought that he could become the City Lord of Donglin City.

Jing Tianying stared with wide eyes, looked at Jing Chengye and the other elders, whose expressions were almost the same.

Only then did he confirm that he had not misheard.

What Special Envoy Zhou Che said was indeed about him taking the role of the new City Lord of Donglin City.

The entire scene was silent for a few breaths, everyone still hadn’t reacted.

No one expected the new City Lord to be Elder Jing Tianying from the Jing Family.

There had been rumors previously that the new City Lord would be an elder from the Wen Family of Lanqu County City.

Although rumors couldn’t be one hundred percent certain, everyone thought that even if the new City Lord wasn’t an elder from the Wen Family, it would definitely be a significant figure from Lanqu County City, a Dao Spirit realm powerhouse.

Jing Tianying, however, was currently only at the Innate Peak Realm, not yet advanced to Dao Spirit.

Generally, a city’s City Lord would need to have cultivation in the Dao Spirit realm.

If one’s strength was too weak, they could not control the city at all.

“Is City Lord Jing Tianying here?” Zhou Che, seeing that no one spoke for a while, lightly coughed and asked again.

“Special Envoy, I am Jing Tianying!” Jing Tianying stepped forward a few steps and said.

“City Lord Jing Tianying, congratulations!” Zhou Che walked over to Jing Tianying, handed him the appointment letter, “From now on, the management of Donglin City is your responsibility.”

Zhou Che’s face was full of smiles, very enthusiastic.

“Yes!” Jing Tianying received the appointment letter.

“Um, City Lord Jing Tianying, Clan Leader Jing Chengye, the appointment announcement is over, and the appointment letter has also been handed over to the new City Lord.

I should be heading back now.” Zhou Che said.

He did not have any intention of staying longer in Donglin City, as there were many matters that needed his attention back at the Prince Manor.

“Special Envoy Zhou Che, why would this appointment of the new City Lord fall on our Jing Family’s elder?

Does the Prince also know about our Elder Jing Tianying?” Jing Chengye couldn’t help but ask.

While it was delightful that the new City Lord was from the Jing Family, this puzzlement, if not resolved, was really discomforting.

Others also looked towards Zhou Che, apparently having the same doubt.

Even Jing Tianying himself was completely confused.

The Prince might know of the existence of the Jing Family, but did he also know about Jing Tianying, a Martial Artist at the Innate Peak Realm?

Not only did he know, but the Prince also appointed Jing Tianying as the new City Lord!

“Heh, I’m not very clear about the specific details.

However, it should probably have something to do with Jing Yan from your Jing Family,” Zhou Che chuckled.

He could understand the confusion of the Jing Family!

If not for the emergence of Jing Yan, this new City Lord appointment would never have fallen onto a person from the Jing Family.

The detailed situation, he could not say.

However, letting the Jing Family know that it was because of Jing Yan that the Prince appointed Jing Tianying as the City Lord of Donglin City was harmless.

Upon hearing Zhou Che’s words, the crowd was slightly stunned again.

Jing Yan?

Previously, in the big battle with the Zhao Family, it was Jing Yan who had timely returned and single-handedly turned the tide, and now the appointment of the new City Lord was also related to Jing Yan?

Could Jing Yan sway the Prince to appoint a Jing Family elder as the new City Lord of Donglin City?

Everyone’s hearts were tumultuous!

It seemed that Jing Yan’s steps were getting faster and faster.

Now even the Prince could be influenced by him.

“Gentlemen, I shall take my leave, until we meet again!” Zhou Che bowed to everyone.

“Safe travels, Special Envoy!” Jing Chengye, Jing Tianying, and the others all said in unison.

They watched as Zhou Che boarded the Sky Swallow Car, which quickly departed and disappeared down the street.

From the moment Zhou Che stepped off the Sky Swallow Car till the end of the new City Lord’s appointment, it was barely less than the time to drink a cup of tea.

But within this short duration, the situation for the Jing Family seemed to have undergone a drastic change.

Previously, the Jing Family relied on family strength and temporarily controlled Donglin City.

But now, the Jing Family thoroughly controlled Donglin City.

Who would dare oppose the Jing Family within Donglin City’s jurisdiction from now on?

That would definitely be courting death.

Lv Qin, Shi Xuan, and others from the rear then stepped forward.

They also all breathed a sigh of relief.

If the new City Lord had been a person from the Wen Family or some other notable figure from Lanqu County City, the situation for people like Lv Qin would also have been very grim.

Lv Qin and others were now in the same boat as the Jing Family; if the new City Lord were to target the Jing Family, they would definitely not be spared.

Now knowing that the new City Lord was Jing Tianying, their pressure naturally disappeared along with the Jing Family’s.
