The Sword God of the Universe

Chapter 394: Chapter 394: Lost the Wife and Lost the Troops Chapter 394: Chapter 394: Lost the Wife and Lost the Troops Wen Lan and Wen Song both revealed looks of eager anticipation.

To take control of Donglin City, the Wen Family had made enormous sacrifices, but as long as they succeeded, everything would be worthwhile.

Once they crushed the Jing Family, the Wen Family would greatly benefit from the resources produced in the region of Donglin City.

After decades or even a century of management, they would be able to recoup the costs of this endeavor.

“Wen Clan Leader, I have already decided on the candidate for Donglin City Lord—it will be Jing Tianying, an elder of the Jing Family,” Zhou Shangyun said, his gaze landing on the two men as he spoke slowly.

“Buzz!” The smile at the corner of Wen Lan’s mouth instantly froze.

In his mind, there was a loud bang, and everything went blank.

What did that mean?

What was going on here?

Hadn’t it been agreed upon, pretty much confirmed, that it would be Wen Song, an elder of my Wen Family, who would take on the role of Lord of Donglin City?

How had it suddenly changed to a Jing Family elder—what the hell had happened?

Wen Lan was aware that Prince Zhou Shangyun should have known why the Wen Family was so adamant about controlling Donglin City—it was to oppose the Jing Family.

But now, the Prince had directly appointed a Jing Family elder as the City Lord of Donglin City.

Wasn’t this a slap in the face of the Wen Family?

One could imagine that once this news spread, all the forces, big and small, in Lanqu County City would take this as a mockery of the Wen Family!

Wen Lan was stunned for a long while before taking a deep breath and looking at Zhou Shangyun.

Wen Song, an elder of the Wen Family, shifted his gaze back and forth between Wen Lan and Zhou Shangyun.

Where is my appointment as City Lord?

Wen Song wanted to angrily shout and question Zhou Shangyun, but he hadn’t lost his reason.

He knew all too well that Zhou Shangyun’s temper was not so mild—if he angered Zhou Shangyun and the Prince struck him with a slap, Wen Song was not confident he would survive.

Moreover, even if Zhou Shangyun killed him, the Wen Family would not and could not seek revenge.

“Prince, I’m somewhat puzzled by this,” Wen Lan said after taking a breath, trying to remain calm.

“What does the Wen Clan Leader find puzzling?” Zhou Shangyun raised an eyebrow.

Zhou Shangyun had anticipated that the Wen Family would not accept this outcome in silence.

“Prince, although you did not personally announce that Elder Wen Song of my family would be appointed as City Lord of Donglin City, we all knew that it was more or less decided.

I don’t understand why you have suddenly changed your mind and decided to appoint someone from the Jing Family as City Lord of Donglin City,” Wen Lan asked in as even a tone as possible.

After all, he was the Clan Leader of the Wen Family, one of the prominent families, and although he was at a disadvantage before the Prince, he was not without the courage to speak, not to that extent.

“Regarding this matter, I have reviewed it again these past few days and still believe that Elder Wen Song is not quite suitable for the role of City Lord of Donglin City,” Zhou Shangyun said, shaking his head.

“Prince, a great battle took place in Donglin City recently, where the Jing Family fought the Zhao Family, resulting in the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of Martial Artists.

If a Jing Family elder is appointed as City Lord, Donglin City might descend into chaos in the future!” Wen Lan was not willing to accept this.

“This issue has not occurred yet, so no one can be certain it will happen.

If Donglin City really does fall into chaos, then I assure you I will take subsequent actions,” Zhou Shangyun said with a smile, “But one thing I want to make clear to you, Clan Leader Wen, is that the Wen Family should not interfere with matters in Donglin City.

If I find out that the Wen Family is taking revenge against the Jing Family in secret, I will not ignore it!

I need Donglin City to stabilize, grow, and become stronger!”

Hearing this, Wen Lan felt a chill in his heart.

It was clear that Zhou Shangyun had made up his mind and no matter what he said, it would be unable to change the Prince’s thoughts.

“Since the Prince has made a decision, naturally I can’t say anything further.

I hope Donglin City flourishes more and more!” Wen Lan said insincerely.

“Prince, we will take our leave then!” Wen Lan stood up to bid farewell.

He did not want to stay at Prince Manor for another minute!

Wen Song also stood up, and the two of them left the guest room, one after the other, exiting Prince Manor.

“Clan Leader, what exactly is going on?

Why did the Prince suddenly change his mind?” Upon leaving Prince Manor, Wen Song couldn’t help but ask Wen Lan.

“You’re asking me, but who am I supposed to ask?” Wen Lan, simmering with frustration, had no pleasant reply to Wen Song’s question.

Moreover, he genuinely did not know either, and he himself was full of doubts.

Both men returned to their family home, heavy with unanswered questions.

Wen Lan summoned the Wen Family elders and informed them of the situation.

The elders of the Wen Family were somewhat dumbfounded upon hearing the news.

“What on earth is the Prince trying to do?”

“Does he think our Wen Family is easy to bully?”

“We, the Wen Family, paid such a high price to win the support of the other families, and just one word from the Prince has overturned it all?”

The elders of the Wen Family voiced their displeasure loudly.

The Wen Family had paid such a great price, only to be rewarded with such an outcome?

The news was sure to spread uncontrollably, and within a day, the entire Lanqu County City would know.

By then, the mockery would probably spread throughout the city.

“The Prince must have his reasons for changing his mind.

Moreover, the newly appointed City Lord is a member of the Jing Family; it seems that whatever made the Prince change his mind is related to the Jing Family!” the Great Elder of the Wen Family mused.

This Great Elder of the Wen Family was considered the brain of the family.

While the other elders were furious, he was able to analyze the situation calmly.

“Find out!

I must know what made Zhou Shangyun change his mind!” Wen Lan ordered, his face showing an ashen hue.

“Clan Leader, the Vice President of the Alchemist Association, Xu Dong, has arrived!” a guard clothed in black from the Wen Family reported as he entered.

“Vice President Xu Dong?” Wen Lan’s eyes flashed, “Please, let him in!”

Moments later, Xu Dong entered the room.

“Mr.

Xu Dong!” Wen Lan and the others bowed, very politely.

As a fifth-level Pill Master and the Vice President of the Alchemist Association, Xu Dong was on good terms with the Wen Family in everyday affairs.

“Clan Leader Wen, esteemed elders of the Wen Family!” Xu Dong returned the greeting.

Xu Dong also noticed the unusual atmosphere in the room, but he wasn’t surprised, as he had already received the news that the candidate for City Lord of Donglin City had been replaced with a member of the Jing Family.

The Wen Family surely felt extremely displeased about the change in the City Lord of Donglin City.

“Mr.

Xu Dong, do you have some matter to discuss with us?” Wen Lan invited Xu Dong to sit and asked politely.

“It’s nothing significant, just that I’ve heard Prince has appointed someone named Jing Tianying from the Jing Family as City Lord of Donglin City,” Xu Dong said, raising his eyebrows slightly as he spoke at a leisurely pace.

“Mr.

Xu Dong, surely you’re not here to make fun of our misfortune, are you?” one of the Wen Family elders spoke up gravely.

“Of course not!

I just thought that perhaps you might not know why the Prince suddenly changed his decision,” Xu Dong said with a smile, showing no offense to the elder’s tone.
