The Sword God of the Universe

Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Recommend Jing Tianying Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Recommend Jing Tianying Donglin City, within the jurisdiction of Lanqu County City, could only be regarded as a small city.

Hence, the position of City Lord should not be considered particularly important.

Nevertheless, Jing Yan had to give it a try.

Even if he couldn’t secure the position of City Lord, he couldn’t allow the people of the Wen Family to become the ruler of Donglin City.

“Prince,” Jing Yan asked tentatively, “City Lord Huo Chunyang of Donglin City disappeared several months ago, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Has a new City Lord for Donglin City been decided upon?”

He had already learned from Mu Liantian that the likely candidate for the City Lord of Donglin City was nearly confirmed to be an elder from the Wen Family.

However, in front of Zhou Shangyun, it was better to feign ignorance, so as not to irritate Shangyun.

Zhou Shangyun’s eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Jing Yan.

He knew that Jing Yan was from Donglin City, and there was a Jing Family in Donglin City; Jing Yan was a member of that family.

Recently, the Jing Family had waged a war with another family in Donglin City, the Zhao Family, leading to the Zhao Family’s extinction.

With the position of City Lord now vacant, it was likely that the Jing Family had set their sights on it.

After a brief consideration, Zhou Shangyun figured out Jing Yan’s intentions.

“The candidate for the City Lord of Donglin City has already been selected, it is Elder Wen Song from the Wen Family.

Why, do you, Jing Yan, have thoughts about becoming the City Lord of Donglin City?” Zhou Shangyun asked with a smile.

“Prince!”

“I’ll speak frankly.

My family has a feud with the Wen Family, and if someone from the Wen Family were to go to Donglin City to become the City Lord, it would inevitably pose a threat to the development of the Jing Family.

I requested Chief Manager Mu Liantian to take me to the Prince Manor exactly because I wanted to see you, your Highness, in the hope that you might change your mind.”

“I know that I have little influence, but for the sake of my family’s development, I can only muster the courage to plead.” Jing Yan did not believe the Prince was unaware of the turmoil that had struck Donglin City.

Zhou Shangyun must have already known that the Wen Family was connected to the Zhao Family.

Because the Zhao Family was eradicated, two Dao Spirit Realm elders of the Wen Family perished, prompting the Wen Family to actively strive to gain control of Donglin City at great costs within Lanqu County City.

Hearing Jing Yan’s plea, Zhou Shangyun nodded, his expression growing more serious.

“Do you have a suggestion for the candidate to be City Lord of Donglin City?

Jing Yan, you have done me a great favor this time.

If you can recommend a suitable candidate, I might just agree to it,” Zhou Shangyun said.

The choice for the City Lord of Donglin City wasn’t of great importance to Zhou Shangyun.

Whether it was someone from the Wen Family or someone recommended by Jing Yan made little difference to him personally.

The main difficulty lay in the pressure from the Wen Family and several great families.

The Wen Family had sacrificed much to gain this position, persuading other families in Lanqu County City to jointly recommend Elder Wen Song as City Lord of Donglin City.

If Zhou Shangyun suddenly decided to change his choice, it would certainly upset the Wen Family and the other families.

However, to repay Jing Yan for the favor, he might just have to be autocratic and make a unilateral decision.

Jing Yan’s eyes brightened slightly.

Hearing Zhou Shangyun’s question, he knew there was hope.

As for the candidate…

Jing Yan himself definitely did not have the time to act as the City Lord of Donglin City.

If he were to take up the position, he would need to be stationed in Donglin City, which was clearly not suitable.

His mind racing, Jing Yan thought of a candidate.

“Prince, I believe that Jing Tianying, an elder from my Jing Family, would be suitable for the role.

Although Jing Tianying is currently only at the Peak of the Innate Realm, with the support of our family, he should still be able to command respect,” Jing Yan carefully suggested.

Jing Tianying was currently at the Peak of Innate, but with his talent, if given adequate resources, the hope for him to advance to the Dao Spirit Realm in the future was quite substantial.

“Mm!” Zhou Shangyun mused, “Being at the Peak of the Innate Realm does indeed seem a bit weak.

However, having the support of your family, you indeed may be able to control Donglin City.

Alright then, let your family’s elder become the City Lord of Donglin City.

But let me say it plainly upfront— if Donglin City is poorly managed to the point of disgrace, I will hold you accountable.”

“Rest assured, Prince, I guarantee that Donglin City will develop better and better.

However, I’m a bit worried about the Wen Family’s response; if they retaliate, Donglin City might not be able to withstand it,” Jing Yan smoothly remarked.

“You sly boy!” Zhou Shangyun laughed and gave Jing Yan a stern look.

“I’ll admonish the Wen Family,” Zhou Shangyun said with a slight shake of his head.

“Thank you, Prince!” Jing Yan quickly expressed his gratitude.

Now that Donglin City was under the control of the Jing Family, and with Jing Tianying poised to become the City Lord, Donglin City could be said to be as stable as Mount Tai.

As long as there was no interference from powerful entities like the Wen Family, the continuous growth and development of Donglin City was hardly a difficult matter.

“Alright, you should go rest.

For the time being, you’ll stay at the Prince Manor.

Once the matter of the City Lord of Donglin City is settled, I’ll let you know,” Zhou Shangyun waved Jing Yan away.

Zhou Shangyun was becoming increasingly satisfied with Jing Yan.

Although Jing Yan had presented him with a challenge this time, his prudence pleased Zhou Shangyun.

If Jing Yan were arrogant, the type who got carried away with a bit of success, Zhou Shangyun might still have acquiesced to his request, but the goodwill between them would have suffered.

“Yes!” After responding, Jing Yan, containing his jubilation, quickly turned and left.

The problem of Donglin City was resolved, and a great weight was lifted from Jing Yan’s heart.

Now that he would be residing at the Prince Manor for a while, it was a perfect opportunity to try cultivating the Nine Yangs Linked and see how effective this top-tier Body Refining Secret Method truly was.

“Jing Yan!”

Just as Jing Yan had returned to his temporary lodgings, he saw Bai Xue in a white dress, waiting there.

“City Lord Bai Xue,” Jing Yan greeted her as he approached.

“Thank you for what you did for my grandfather,” Bai Xue said, looking at Jing Yan.

“It was a trivial matter, hardly worth mentioning,” Jing Yan replied with a smile.

“Did you encounter any trouble at Dao Yi Academy?” Bai Xue then asked.

Jing Yan was slightly taken aback.

Bai Xue’s words seemed to suggest that if anyone caused trouble for him at Dao Yi Academy, she would stand up for him.

Indeed, Jing Yan did encounter some trouble at Dao Yi Academy some time ago.

However, that issue had already been resolved by Fang Ruoyu.

“No one at Dao Yi Academy has given me any trouble,” Jing Yan said with a smile.

“Good, that’s reassuring,” Bai Xue nodded.

“Well, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way.

I’m returning to Duyang City tomorrow.

If you wish to see me in the future, come find me in Duyang City.”

With that, Bai Xue turned and departed.

Jing Yan watched Bai Xue’s retreating figure, his mind racing with thoughts of her straightforward and decisive character.

Shaking his head, Jing Yan entered the room he was staying in temporarily— the very room where he had refined the Prolo Pill and Water Wood Pill.
