Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1294: Chapter 1295: Subtle Tensions Between Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law

Mother Qi looked at Cheng Su’s expression, as if she had eaten a fly, and her face fell, saying, ”If we can’t help with other things, that’s fine. But can’t we help with finding a partner?”

Without waiting for Cheng Su’s reply, she continued, ”One shouldn’t be so sharp. We’re doing well ourselves, so what’s wrong with lending a hand to poor relatives? Besides, it’s not just anyone; it’s your eldest aunt. Their family is like that, and Weiqiu is at this age now. It’s hard to find a partner, but helping a bit won’t hurt.”

Cheng Su thought, weren’t you indifferent before?

”Mom, they say if you don’t act as a middleman, a guarantor, or a matchmaker, things are better for three generations. It’s great to find a partner everyone is happy with and become in-laws, but in Weiqiu’s case...” Cheng Su gently tried to say.

Just say she’s sharp then; being a matchmaker isn’t impossible, but it depends on the situation. Deng Weiqiu’s case involves bringing her mother along in marriage, which limits the options. Finding a good partner is hard, and marrying a bad one could lead to future troubles. What if they blame you, saying you misled their offspring and ruined their lives?

Cheng Su has acted as a matchmaker before, like that time the military held a social event. She simply gave an employee from her family a chance; it wasn’t formal matchmaking. They found each other appealing, and she just provided a platform.

Right now, Deng Weiqiu is evidently a hot potato. In the 21st century, times are open and enlightened, so it’s not a big deal. But this is the 1980s—how many families would take a mother along when marrying?

Even if some do, there will certainly be conflicts in the long run. Who knows if they’ll become resentful couples then!

Families are about helping each other when there’s trouble, but if things aren’t good, relatives might turn against each other!

”I know what you mean, but their family is already struggling. If not even finding a partner can be helped, this relative relationship is essentially over, right?” Mother Qi sighed, ”Your aunt has had a tough life. That damn Weixia is nowhere to be found; otherwise, Weiqiu wouldn’t be delayed like this. If anyone’s to blame, it’s Weixia, for doing such useless things.”

Cheng Su felt a chill in her heart; isn’t it true, he’s also irresponsible.

”Since you’ve agreed, mom, let’s just observe.” Cheng Su said, ”But again, when two families connect, it should be mutual. Let’s not turn a family bond into a feud—it wouldn’t be good.”

”Of course, I know!” Mother Qi glared at her, ”Both families need to agree. Just keep an eye out too.”

The rare agreement between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law on this matter brought a subtle atmosphere to their interaction.

Mother Qi cleared her throat, asking, ”Are you planning to have a baby?”

Cheng Su nodded, ”We’ve been preparing since the beginning of the year, taking care of my body.”

Mother Qi breathed a long sigh of relief, ”It’s about time. Taiguo is already thirty. Others his age could have had kids already!” She glanced at Cheng Su’s belly, secretly hoping for a grandson next year!

Cheng Su knew her mother-in-law’s thoughts, responding vaguely.

”Mom, have you cooked? I’m so hungry!”

Qi Fengping’s voice came from outside.

”You brat, are you a pig? How many meals do you need in a day? You just ate!” Mother Qi stood up, cursing as she went out.

Cheng Su frowned.
