Stronger by Paying Salaries and I Have 1 Billion Employees

「Monday, March 18th, 1:30 PM.」

The homepages of Penguin Video, YY, Youku, Sohu, and Sina Video all featured a massive promotional banner for the ”2013 Orange Technology Spring Product Launch.”

A single click would take you into the live stream room.

The camera was focused on the large screen at the launch event. In the center was a bright, eye-catching Orange logo. Beside it was a single line of text: Let Technology Change Lives!

The last time Wang Teng live-streamed the Orange Pad 1 and Orange MagicBook on the YY Platform, the cumulative viewership exceeded 4 million, with concurrent viewers surpassing 2 million.

Because the live stream was remarkably effective and generated immense traffic, the Marketing and Brand Departments decided to expand their live stream promotional channels.

To this end, each of the five major platforms paid Orange Technology a fee of 1 million to host the live stream.

”Damn it! That son of a bitch Wang Teng! Why couldn’t he schedule this for yesterday? He just had to pick a Monday. Slacking off at work to watch the live stream... what a thrill!”

”+1, same here!”

”My son Wang Teng has the makings of a Great Emperor!”

”You’re Wang Teng’s dad? Then who am I?”

Although the launch event hadn’t started, over a hundred thousand netizens were already waiting in the live stream room, chattering and cracking jokes.

Following the explosive popularity of the web novel *Shrouding the Heavens*, Wang Teng’s comment sections were filled with meme-loving jokesters.

Suddenly, Wang Teng found himself with tens of millions of unrelated ”biological fathers” online.

”Honestly, I’d rather see President Chen host the product launch. Great body, gorgeous looks, a strong nose, and a perky ass!”

”Hey, lady upstairs, the star of the show is the new product, not some pretty boy. Diagnosis: certified fangirl!”

”Your whole family are the ’ladies’ here! I’m a real man, for your information!”

”Selling an uncensored HD photo set of President Chen, 9.9 yuan a pop. Add me on QQ for details: 771****92.”

”Got any nudes? I’ll pay extra!”

The scrolling comments on the YY Platform’s live stream were absolutely vile. Even the moderators couldn’t stand it anymore. ’A billionaire worth fifty billion US dollars is going to pose for a photo shoot for you guys?’

There are so many fools that the scammers can’t keep up!

「Meanwhile.」

In the conference hall on the top floor of the Sky Garden, over a thousand people were whispering amongst themselves, all waiting for 2 o’clock to arrive.

After all, Orange Technology had already joined the top tier of domestic mobile phone manufacturers.

Although it was temporarily behind ZTE in the global market, any discerning person could see that ever since Zhou Shouzhi joined Orange Technology, Orange Mobile Phone’s expansion in the Eastern European, African, and Tianzhu markets had been extremely rapid.

It might even represent Hua Country’s mobile phone brands and break into the global top three this year.

Zhou Shouzhi, Wang Teng, and Ye Qiuping were on the first floor, receiving industry partners, suppliers, and personnel from the Central Bureau.

Chen Yansen, on the other hand, sat calmly in the front row of the conference hall, occasionally standing up to exchange a few pleasantries.

”Boss, President He from ZTE Mobile Phone is here.” Chen Jie, wearing a sleek black pantsuit, leaned in to speak quietly. Through her V-neck collar, President Chen had an unobstructed view.

Chen Yansen acknowledged her and walked straight to the entrance of the conference hall, happening to run right into He Dingyou as he was walking in.

”President He, I was just on my way down to greet you. I didn’t realize you’d already arrived.” Chen Yansen beamed as he reached out to shake the other man’s hand, acting as if they were old acquaintances.

In reality, it was their first time meeting.

At Orange Technology’s previous product launches, He Dingyou had been disdainful, looking down on Orange Mobile Phone.

But in the blink of an eye, a year had passed, and Orange Mobile Phone had somehow become the top seller on the domestic mobile phone sales charts.

Although ZTE’s global shipments reached 67 million units last year, only 28 million were domestic, of which only 19 million were smartphones.

Compared to Orange Mobile Phone’s 43.4 million units, ZTE was practically a little brother.

Coupled with the meteoric rise of Xiaomi, 360, NetEase, OPPO, and VIVO, ZTE Mobile Phone had lost a considerable amount of its market share.

Thus, while He Dingyou’s trip to Xucheng was ostensibly to attend the new product launch, he was really there to learn from the masters and, if possible, discuss a potential partnership with Orange Technology.

Of course, Chen Yansen wouldn’t underestimate He Dingyou. ZTE, like Huawei, was fundamentally a giant in the telecommunications industry.

Their lackluster performance in the mobile phone business didn’t mean the company as a whole was weak.

ZTE had a rich history and deep expertise in wireless communications, the Internet of Things, optical transmission, and wireless charging. There was no telling when Orange Technology might need to partner with them.

It’s always better to make a friend than an enemy.

Moreover, the widespread adoption of the Orange Z1 Instruction Set and Aurora Future OS depended on support from others in the industry.

Smiling, Chen Yansen led He Dingyou to a seat in the front row.

”Hisilicon bought an architectural license for the Orange Z1?” He Dingyou asked eagerly the moment he sat down.

”The Huake Science Association and Apple bought one too,” Chen Yansen said casually.

”Which Apple?” He Dingyou pressed, a flicker of shock in his eyes.

”Apple,” Chen Yansen replied with a smile.

”How does the Orange Z1 Instruction Set’s encoding efficiency and power efficiency compare to ARM’s?” He Dingyou asked curiously.

”Its encoding efficiency is 1.4 times ARM’s, and its power efficiency is about 30% better,” Chen Yansen stated frankly.

He Dingyou’s eyes went wide. His first reaction was disbelief.

’If ARM’s CPU architecture was that simple, would companies like Qualcomm, Broadcom, Apple, Huawei, and ZTE still be dutifully paying ARM royalties every year?’

’But on second thought, the people at Hisilicon, Apple, and the Huake Science Association aren’t fools. And Chen Yansen doesn’t come from a powerful family, so there’s no reason these three would hand over money for nothing.’

’Unless!’

’The Orange Z1 Instruction Set’s encoding efficiency and power efficiency truly were superior to ARM’s. That had to be what convinced Hisilicon, Apple, and the Huake Science Association.’
