Stronger by Paying Salaries and I Have 1 Billion Employees

With his constitution, Chen Yansen could have downed baijiu like it was plain water, but he didn’t refuse. Instead, he reminded the three to have the administration department keep an eye on things. Drinking was fine, but no one should drink themselves to death.

At last year’s annual parties for Pinbei and Orange Technology, several hotheads had drunk so much they ended up in the hospital on IV drips.

Since Senlian Capital’s controlled subsidiaries didn’t offer year-end bonuses, the annual party’s raffle became the final employee benefit of the year, making every banquet hall exceptionally lively.

Several boxes were filled with gleaming gold, with dozens of pounds given away in one go.

After dealing with a group of subordinates offering toasts, Chen Yansen went to the rooftop garden alone, leaning against the railing as the wind blew.

From his position, he could overlook the entire downtown area of Xucheng. The cold wind was biting, neon lights flickered, and distant skyscrapers appeared and disappeared in the clouds and mist.

He couldn’t help but look in the direction of the telecom service center. That was where he had scooped up his second pot of gold. While the method wasn’t exactly orthodox, it had saved him a great deal of time and money.

Xucheng was just his starting point, by no means his final destination.

”What are you thinking about, Boss Chen?”

With a CREAK, the glass door was pushed open. Someone walked up behind Chen Yansen and asked.

”You want to know?” Chen Yansen asked in return.

”If I were you, with a net worth of tens of billions at twenty, I’d probably buy a small island, keep seven or eight mistresses, and start my retirement early,” Ye Qiuping said in a charming voice.

As a cold wind blew, she instinctively hunched her shoulders and pulled her collar tight. Seeing that Chen Yansen was only wearing a black turtleneck, she couldn’t help but curse inwardly: ’This son of a bitch can really take the cold!’

”How vulgar,” Chen Yansen scoffed.

He had already experienced the life Ye Qiuping described in his previous life. The result? His kidneys were shot before he even turned thirty-five.

’Vulgar?’

Ye Qiuping burst out laughing. ’I never expected Scumbag Chen had such a righteous side to him.’

In her eyes, Chen Yansen had his good points, but they were few and far between.

”Look down there. So many people have to go to work the moment they wake up and can’t go home until late at night. In their whole lives, they barely see any sunrises or sunsets. What are those people living for?”

Chen Yansen said in a flat tone.

”What else? Just to live! We live only to die.” Ye Qiuping unconsciously snuggled closer to President Chen and gave a self-deprecating smile.

”It shouldn’t be like this,” Chen Yansen said, raising an eyebrow.

”You’re already incredible. You’ve changed the lives and fates of hundreds of thousands of people. Some things are just not for you to decide.”

Ye Qiuping looked at Chen Yansen, her gaze burning with intensity.

”I want to give it a try.” The corners of Chen Yansen’s mouth lifted into a grin.

”Boss, it’s windy out here. Should I go home and make you some brown sugar water chestnut soup?” Ye Qiuping said, changing the subject.

”Some other day,” Chen Yansen said, shaking his head.

”Alright then.” Ye Qiuping licked her lips, her shimmering eyes narrowing into a fox-like smile.

But to her surprise, President Chen really did mean some other day.

At ten o’clock sharp, Chen Yansen got in his car and left. Ye Qiuping stood before the glass curtain wall and sighed softly.

”Where did you go just now? I didn’t see you in the banquet hall,” Song Yuncheng, who was sitting next to him, asked softly.

”Went to the balcony for some air. Did you win anything?” Chen Yansen asked casually.

”The consolation prize,” Song Yuncheng said, her face dark and the corners of her mouth turned down.

”Stay away from me. Don’t let your bad luck rub off on me,” Chen Yansen said with a look of disdain.

”But I think my luck is pretty good,” Song Yuncheng said, staring intently at Boss Chen and making a direct pass.

”Hmph! Tomorrow, I’m transferring you to food delivery. You’ll be exposed to the wind and sun all day. We’ll see if you can still be so sassy then,” Chen Yansen said threateningly.

Song Yuncheng giggled. She didn’t believe for a second that Chen Yansen would be so heartless.

Chen Yansen gazed out the window as the streetscape flew past. The glass reflected his face, wearing a faint, enigmatic smile.

「The next day, at 3:30 PM.」

「Hu City, near Riyueguang Mall.」

Song Yuncheng’s head was hanging low as she muttered under her breath. If one were to get a little closer, they would hear: ”Chen Yansen, you’re inhuman. You’re worse than a dog.”

At this moment, Pinbei’s Director of Major Client Investment Attraction was dressed in an orange jacket and a helmet, having just picked up a delivery order for a spicy hot pot from the B2 level.

As soon as she walked out of the mall’s main entrance, she saw Chen Yansen with a wicked grin on his face.

”Stop dawdling. You’ve only delivered two orders all afternoon, and one of them was two minutes late,” Chen Yansen teased.

”You’ve only done two orders yourself!” Song Yuncheng retorted indignantly.

”But I wasn’t late, and I didn’t get any bad reviews,” Chen Yansen said with a shrug.

”I...” Song Yuncheng fell silent. To be dragged to Hu City by Chen Yansen to deliver food just days before the Lunar New Year—her situation was utterly miserable.

”Talk any more and you’ll be late again,” Chen Yansen helpfully reminded her.

Hearing this, Song Yuncheng grabbed the delivery bag, hastily hopped on her Electric Vehicle, and sped toward her destination.

Chen Yansen, also wearing a Kuai Pao Rider uniform, followed leisurely behind her.

A short while later, the two of them knocked on the customer’s security door.

”Kuai Pao Delivery wishes you a pleasant meal!”

Chen Yansen and Song Yuncheng recited the slogan in unison, startling the customer.

”Two people delivering one order?” The customer, a young professional in his twenties working in Hu City, asked curiously.

”It’s her first day, so I’m just training her. Oh, and here’s a red envelope for you. Happy New Year.”

Chen Yansen said, lying smoothly.

”Oh, oh, thanks.” The customer didn’t press the issue, taking the food and the red envelope before turning back into his rented apartment.

He assumed it was some kind of New Year’s promotion from Kuai Pao.

In his mind, the red envelope would contain five yuan at most.

But when he opened it, he was instantly dumbfounded. It contained a full six hundred yuan!

’Has Kuai Pao gone crazy?’

’I order a forty-yuan meal, and they give me a six-hundred-yuan red envelope?’

Thinking of this, he pulled out his phone, logged into Weibo, and searched for ”Kuai Pao red envelope.” He immediately got results.

”Chen Yansen is in Hu City delivering food! I got a New Year’s red envelope from the big boss himself, a whole thousand yuan!”

”Wow! My red envelope only had two hundred yuan, but I got a picture with President Chen! He’s super handsome in person, and his voice is so gentle!”

”Is it too late to order delivery now?”

”I just ran into President Chen near Riyueguang Mall. I didn’t even order delivery and still got a red envelope.”

”Got it! I’m heading to Riyueguang Mall right now!”

The customer froze for a moment, then it hit him: ’Was that guy just now Chen Yansen? No wonder he was so tall!’

’Damn, I can’t believe I didn’t recognize him!’

He was a loyal user of Orange Mobile Phones; in fact, the phone he was using right now was an Orange C3.

Half an hour later, search terms like ”Chen Yansen Delivers Food,” ”Chen Yansen Hu City,” and ”Fifty-Billionaire Tycoon Gives Out Red Envelopes” shot to the top of the trending topics list.

「Meanwhile.」

In Yanjing, near Zhongguan Village, a fully-equipped Liu Qiangdong hopped on his delivery scooter, weaving through streets and alleys to deliver packages into the hands of users.

Compared to Chen Yansen, his level of public recognition wasn’t as high.

Very few people could recognize him.

But with a push from Jingdong’s PR department, photos of Handsome Dong delivering packages on his Electric Vehicle still quickly made the news headlines.

Chen Yansen and Liu Qiangdong—one in the south delivering food, the other in the north delivering packages—were masterfully playing the internet traffic game.

「Elsewhere, at the Meituan Headquarters Building.」

”Brother Xin, should you maybe...” Wang Huiwen started to say, but then trailed off.

”Forget it. It would be too obvious a copycat move, and that often backfires,” Wang Xin refused decisively.

He knew full well that his reputation in the delivery rider industry was not a good one.
