Stronger by Paying Salaries and I Have 1 Billion Employees

Xucheng City District, Sky Garden Hotel.

A dazzling, arched photo wall stood in the first-floor lobby, and the crystal chandelier overhead illuminated the area as brightly as day.

”Smile, boss!”

Zhang Tianrui, from Pinbei’s event team, raised his camera and made the bold suggestion.

Chen Yansen sighed and forced a smile.

From six to seven, he had been used as a backdrop by employees from Pinbei, Orange Technology, Today Technology, Orange Pay, and other projects, taking group photos with each department one by one.

As the boss, it was hard for him to refuse.

CLICK! The sound of the camera shutter went off again and again.

”Boss, you look so handsome today,” praised Tian Tian, a receptionist from Orange Technology, in a soft, gentle voice.

As Chen Yansen turned, his gaze happened to fall on her chest. They were sized somewhere between a peach and a dragon fruit—not massive, but incredibly pale.

He hadn’t meant to look, but Tian Tian was wearing a velvet, strapless cocktail dress, and at his height of six-foot-one, he had a bird’s-eye view.

”So, I wasn’t handsome yesterday?” Chen Yansen asked, feigning a stern expression.

”Hee hee, the boss is the most handsome every day,” Tian Tian said, acting cute and sticking out her tongue.

’She’s quite the schemer!’

’This is the kind of girl who’ll stick to you. Best not to get involved at all!’

Chen Yansen commented to himself.

President Chen raised his wrist to check the time, gave a wave, and walked straight into the elevator bay, with Xiaoli following close behind.

With a DING, the elevator doors slowly opened.

Zhang Yifeng, Chen Xu, Hu Li, Li Hui, and the others were standing outside the banquet hall, chatting idly. All of them were dressed in sharp suits.

”Brother Sen!” Hu Li and Chen Xu were the first to greet him.

He had personally recruited the two of them as the first product operators for FoxTao. They later transferred to become category operators, then joined Pinbei as investment attraction operations managers. They were true company veterans.

At the company, they usually called him ”Boss” or ”President Chen,” but in private, they still used the old address.

Just then, Zhang Wenbo and Xiang Pengfei walked out together and ran right into Chen Yansen. They greeted him with wide smiles, ”Brother Sen!”

”Nice suit, Wenbo. Very sharp,” Chen Yansen said, clapping Zhang Wenbo on the shoulder with a teasing smile.

”Thanks for the compliment, Brother Sen. You want me to send you the link?” Zhang Wenbo replied awkwardly, scratching his head.

”Don’t tell me you bought it on Pinbei?” Chen Yansen laughed, amused by his response.

Xiang Pengfei, showing no restraint, laughed the loudest.

”Class President, Mr. Huang’s speech is almost over. You shouldn’t be wandering around out here, or we won’t be able to find you in a bit.”

Xu Xingxing, who had been by the door, heard a familiar voice outside and quickly trotted out to drag Chen Yansen into the banquet hall.

Huang Zheng was on stage, unhurriedly delivering his New Year’s outlook.

”In 2013, Pinbei’s annual sales target is 600 billion. This goal is extremely challenging, but it’s also filled with infinite possibilities.

I hope all our colleagues will work together to achieve this goal splendidly! When that time comes, I will personally go to the boss and fight for raises and generous bonuses for everyone. Let’s do it!”

Huang Zheng stood tall and straight, his announcement resounding and forceful.

The moment he finished speaking, thunderous applause erupted from below the stage.

In reality, everyone knew that with the big boss’s personality, raises were just standard procedure. He would find all sorts of reasons to increase the multiplier on their quarterly performance bonuses too.

Working at Pinbei, you never had to worry about salary adjustments or promotions. As long as you worked diligently and had solid results, there was at least one opportunity for a general salary increase every year.

Even if you weren’t good with words or lacked skills in managing up, as long as you just put your head down and worked hard, the company wouldn’t overlook you.

After Huang Zheng finished, Chen Yansen took the microphone from Xu Xingxing and strode onto the stage.

”Pinbei was founded in September 2011. It’s now been one year and five months. Compared to Ah Li and Jingdong, we are still a young company, but our achievements are not to be underestimated.

In just over a year, our platform’s cumulative users have surpassed 400 million, our daily active users have broken 70 million, and our transaction volume has grown tens of times over. We’ve established a firm foothold in multiple niche sectors, even surpassing our predecessors.

What I want to say is that 600 billion is far from Pinbei’s limit or its final destination. I’ll be waiting for you all at the one-trillion mark.”

Chen Yansen said calmly.

He spoke very quickly, finished in under thirty seconds, and was already preparing to walk off the stage.

After all, having been both a boss and an employee, he knew deep down that the people in the banquet hall were all thinking the same thing: start the dinner, start the raffle, and go home early.

”Boss, that was a little too fast!” said He Shuang, the Director of Administration, holding the list of prizes with a wry smile.

”Keep long stories short and short stories even shorter. There’s no need to drag out the annual meeting’s agenda.”

Chen Yansen said, unconcerned.

As he spoke, he glanced at the raffle prize list.

Grand Prize (10 winners): 188,888 yuan in Yu’e Bao funds;

First Prize (100 winners): 50-gram gold bar;

Second Prize (500 winners): 20-gram gold bar;

Third Prize (1,000 winners): 6,666 yuan in Yu’e Bao funds;

Participation Prize: one 64GB Orange C3 phone and 1,000 yuan in Yu’e Bao funds.

Simple and crude. No fancy tricks.

”Boss,” Huang Zheng said, proactively coming over.

”I’m leaving the upstairs to you. I’m going to take a look around downstairs,” Chen Yansen instructed.

”No problem. I’ll have the host handle the raffle later. The banquet will officially start at 7:15,” Huang Zheng replied immediately.

Tonight, Senlian Capital had booked the entire Sky Garden, using all of its banquet halls, big and small.

By next year, they’d probably have to move the annual meeting to a stadium.

Chen Yansen nodded and went to check on the banquet halls where the other project teams were gathered.

Liang Bo, Zhou Shouzhi, Zhang Yinjia, and the others were very considerate. They had prepared a Maotai bottle filled with Sprite for him, afraid that the big boss would get drunk on the night of the annual meeting.
