Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1085: Chapter 641: Out of Sync

Sun Fuquan entered the room as his daughter Sun Min was sitting with her best friend Yu Xiaoting watching TV in the living room. Seeing him return, Yu Xiaoting quickly stood up to greet him, ”Hello, Uncle Sun.”

”Xiaoting, no need to be so formal with Uncle. Let Minmin accompany you, Uncle has some things to do, so I won’t keep you company.” Sun Fuquan said as he walked towards the study.

Sun Min stretched her head towards the door, not seeing her mom’s shadow, with a face full of confusion she asked, ”Dad, where’s Mom? Why did you come back alone?”

”Your mom is staying at your uncle’s place tonight, she’s not coming back.”

”Oh yeah!” Sun Min made a victory gesture and eagerly looked at Yu Xiaoting, ”Don’t go home tonight, keep me company, how about it?”

”What if... what if your mom comes back... what should I do?” Yu Xiaoting shrank her neck, ”I’m scared when I see her, you know that. If you hadn’t said she wasn’t home, I wouldn’t dare to come.”

Sun Min thought for a bit, then went to confirm with her dad again, turned back and laughed ”Hehe”, ”Don’t worry, my mom is entirely focused on helping me catch a rich husband, she definitely won’t come back.”

”Huh?” Yu Xiaoting shrank her neck again, ”What if... what if Auntie finds out I introduced you to just an average person’s child, will she use a stick to chase me out?”

”I won’t tell her.” Sun Min sighed lightly, lowering her voice, ”Xiaoting, actually I really envy you, honestly, your mom and dad are so open-minded, sigh... unlike my mom?

My current thought is just to find someone who’s a good match, get married quickly, stay far away from my mom, and no longer suffer her cold violence and verbal poison!”

”No wonder you suddenly asked me to introduce you to a boyfriend, I’ve been wondering how you suddenly became enlightened?” Yu Xiaoting looked at Sun Min with concern, ”But Minmin, marriage is a lifetime thing, you can’t overreact and suddenly stop caring about anything.

The person is a friend of my brother, I haven’t had much contact with him, just heard from my brother that he’s nice, but whether he’s really nice, I’m not sure.

This thing, you’d still have to keep your eyes wide open, if you feel it’s right then be together, if not, don’t force yourself.”

”I know.” Sun Min amusedly squeezed her nose tip, ”Do I look so irresponsible? I want to get married quickly, but I haven’t planned to casually dispose of myself.

Sigh, thinking about the old me and looking at the current me, it shows how powerful my mom’s influence is, she actually made me change my personality...”

”That...” Yu Xiaoting hesitated, nervously glanced at her, swallowed, ”There’s something, I should tell you, he’s a month younger than you.”

”Huh?” Sun Min’s voice instantly raised by eight degrees.

”Minmin, what’s going on?” Sun Fuquan yelled from the study.

”Nothing, nothing, I was shocked by the story Xiaoting told.” Sun Min said while pulling up Yu Xiaoting, ”Let’s go to my bedroom.”

”I knew you’d be so startled, it’s just a month younger, is it worth being so surprised...” Yu Xiaoting muttered while following Sun Min into the bedroom.

”No, your brother’s friend, how can he be younger than me?” Closing the bedroom door, Sun Min urgently asked, she does want to quickly find a good match and get married, but she had already adjusted her preference from three years older to three months older, how could she further loosen this?

”Isn’t it normal for my brother’s friends to be younger than him?” Yu Xiaoting rolled her eyes, ”Originally, another friend of my brother was even more outstanding, but he was two years younger than you, I didn’t dare to even think about it.”

”Two years younger?” Sun Min’s voice raised again, ”If he was really two years younger, I’d rather stay home listening to my mom nag, at worst I’ll stuff cotton in my ears!”

Yu Xiaoting waved impatiently, ”Alright alright, can you stop startling people, just make it quick, see or not see?”

Sun Min hesitated, ”Isn’t there anyone older than me?”

Yu Xiaoting looked at her with a headache, ”Big sister, you, think of one thing and then another, suddenly asking me to find you a boyfriend, but those I know you also know, and most are younger than you, there’s nothing I can do, I can only start with my brother.

On my brother’s side, there are indeed a few older, but most with similar conditions are already married, and those too inadequate, I can’t introduce to you, right?

After my brother filtered and selected, only Lin Shengming seems reliable, the only mismatch with your standard is being a month younger, big sister, only one month, what’s unacceptable about it?”

”Alright, as you say, meet him tomorrow.” Sun Min pounded her chest like Tarzan, ”Oh heavens, oh earth, I never thought Sun Min would have this day too...” The last word was dragged for half a minute.

The bedroom door was suddenly pushed open, Shangguan Yunhong stood at the door frowning, ”What are you doing? Crying like ghosts in the middle of the night, trying to scare someone to death?” When she saw Yu Xiaoting sitting on the edge of the bed, her frown tightened more.

”Hello Aunt Shangguan.” Yu Xiaoting quickly stood up to greet.

”Hello.” Shangguan Yunhong responded faintly, sternly looking at her daughter, ”Tell me, you are almost thirty years old, can you be a bit more reliable?”

”Mom, are you just hoping for me to turn thirty?” Sun Min was provoked and exploded, ”Since last year, you’ve been occasionally murmuring I’m almost thirty, by your calculation, aren’t you almost sixty this year?”

”You... cough cough cough...” Shangguan Yunhong coughed violently out of anger, a hint of reluctance flashed in Sun Min’s eyes, but she stubbornly turned her head away.

She is only twenty-six this year, and yet her mom has been talking every day since she was twenty-five that she’s almost thirty. I mean, which girl likes to be called old?

”Minmin, I’m heading home.” Yu Xiaoting shifted toward the door, discreetly gesturing a number nine to Yu Min with her fingers, then swiftly turned and slipped out the door.

”Xiao Ting...”

”You stop right there!” Shangguan Yunhong blocked her daughter at the doorway, ”Everyone is human, tell me, why are you so clueless?

Nuonuo makes friends and it’s with the Mayor’s daughter, or rather, the Governor’s daughter. What about you? I’ve told you so many times, yet you insist on hanging out with those girls from the alleyway. You are close as can be, like honey, but tell me, what can she bring you?”

”Mom, can’t you stop being so vulgar?” A look of disgust filled Sun Min’s eyes. She hated her mom’s obsession with social climbing.

Shangguan Yunhong pointed at her daughter furiously, ”I’m vulgar? Fine, if I’m not vulgar, then you’ll spend your life around the stove, shopping at the market with a basket and end up a haggard old woman!”

”Even if that’s the case, I’ll accept it.” Sun Min looked seriously at Shangguan Yunhong, ”Mom, every time you visit Uncle’s house, you come back picking a fight.

My whole life, I’ve had to follow your orders, fine, I’ve listened to it all. And now, all you do is tell me I’m a failure.

Since we’ve acknowledged that your way of educating might be flawed, can’t you let me walk my own path? Whether it’s ending up haggard or becoming an officials’ wife, I’ll be happy and willing, and I won’t blame you, okay?”

”You... you...” Shangguan Yunhong’s lips quivered with anger, ”Are you blaming mom then? Are you suggesting that your current situation is all mom’s responsibility?”

”Isn’t it?” Sun Min retorted.

Infuriated, Shangguan Yunhong surprisingly calmed down, ”Did I ever encourage you to befriend those girls from the alleyway?”

”But she genuinely cares for me. What I need is a friend, not a tool for mutual exploitation.” Sun Min sighed softly, ”Mom, you’ve spent your whole life clawing your way upward, but what’s the result?

I remember you used to say Uncle wasn’t ambitious, and that Nuonuo was indecisive. Now? Besides jealousy and envy, what’s left?

Whatever they have now, they earned it for a reason. Don’t these things warrant reflection? Mom, please stop meddling in my marriage plans. Anyway, I promise to marry myself off before May 1st, okay?”

”You... whatever.” Shangguan Yunhong slammed the door and returned to her bedroom, fuming with anger. Tonight, she must have offended some god; otherwise, why is everyone getting under her skin?

Sun Fuquan heard the mother and daughter’s argument crystal clear. Hesitating for a moment, he went to his daughter’s room and knocked, ”Dad.” The door opened, and Sun Min looked at him with red-rimmed eyes.

”Minmin, Dad supports you.” Sun Fuquan patted his daughter’s head, ”It’s all my fault for being too soft and letting you suffer so much.

Actually, how can marriage be measured by interests? Just finding someone who cares for you, genuinely feels for you, is better than anything. Xiao Ting truly cares for you, listen to her, and fight for yourself more.”

”Dad, you heard it all?” Sun Min widened her eyes in surprise.

”The other day, when you called her, I heard.” Sun Fuquan laughed awkwardly, ”Minmin, Dad didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”

”I know.” Sun Min smiled, lowering her voice, ”Tomorrow morning at nine, if you have time, you can visit Shang Island Coffee.”

”Forget it, I trust my daughter’s judgment. If you meet someone suitable, then bring him to Dad later. Anyway, Dad supports you.” Sun Fuquan patted his daughter’s shoulder, then turned and went back to his room.

...

The wind of Island City in early winter already had a bite to it in the morning. Luo Ye returned from her run, soaking her shirt. Ying Nuo looked at her with concern, ”Really, can’t you take a day off?”

”I’m used to it.” Luo Ye smiled and patted her little face, ”I’m going to shower.” She took a couple of steps, then playfully turned back, ”Nuonuo, you look just like a good little wife!”

”Ugh! Hurry and shower. I’ve noticed you’re getting worse... huh, who’s calling me so early?” Ying Nuo said while reaching for her phone. Luo Ye laughed at her from the bathroom door, ”Is it my precious brother, your precious husband?”

”No, it’s my cousin. Why is she calling me so early?” Ying Nuo took the call, looking puzzled.
