Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 978: Chapter 575: A Talent Arrives

”Little Zhu, just tell me what’s on your mind, otherwise, you wouldn’t have come back so soon.” Lin Jinguang smiled, changing the topic.

”Here’s the thing, I have a cousin who studied hotel management; she’s currently the lobby manager at Qilin Hotel. I wanted to ask Mr. Lin if you could let my cousin switch to Old Sichuan Restaurant?”

”Of course, I’m willing. Such talent is exactly what Old Sichuan needs, but Qilin is a five-star hotel, would your cousin be willing to give it up?”

Zhu Jiangyu’s expression relaxed, ”If you think it’s suitable, that would be great. Before I came, I asked my cousin. She admires you very much and said she is willing to come to Old Sichuan.”

”Then call her right now. As long as she’s willing to come over, the treatment will be 10% higher than at Qilin.” Lin Jinguang rubbed his hands excitedly, ”To tell you the truth, I’ve been worried about finding reliable management talent, and this is indeed timely help from you.”

”Mr. Lin...” Zhu Jiangyu was somewhat moved.

Lin Jinguang patted him, ”Little Zhu, I do have a knack for judging people, and I have faith in my intuition. Besides, if your cousin didn’t have skills, she wouldn’t have become the lobby manager at Qilin, right?”

Zhu Jiangyu scratched his head with a laugh, ”Anyway, thank you for your trust, Mr. Lin.”

”Alright, don’t be so polite with me. From the beginning, I never regarded you as just an employee. Our old man is very picky about whom he associates with, and those he approves of can’t be bad.” Seeing Zhu Jiangyu’s eyebrows twitch, Lin Jinguang laughed, ”He spoils my niece because my eldest brother passed away early, and the old man feels sorry for them being widowed and orphaned.”

”Mr. Lin, I...” Zhu Jiangyu, seen through, looked embarrassed.

Lin Jinguang waved his hand, ”It’s nothing, my sister-in-law and niece indeed have some issues with their temperament and way of doing things. Alright, enough of that, go call your cousin. When everything’s settled, I’ll personally go pick her up.”

”Okay.” Zhu Jiangyu responded and dialed Zhu Xiaoxue’s number. After saying a few words, he covered the microphone and looked at Lin Jinguang, ”Mr. Lin, my cousin is just in the area for some errands, and if it’s convenient, she’d like to come over for a talk first.”

”Of course, it’s convenient. Where is she? Let’s go and pick her up.” Lin Jinguang said while grabbing his coat to put it on.

...

Back in the kitchen.

”Brother Zhu, you’re here?” Xiao Yue, busy chopping vegetables, looked up and saw Zhu Jiangyu coming over, her face flushed with excitement.

Zhu Jiangyu smiled at her, ”Xiao Yue, why are you here alone?”

”The two masters went with Xiao Yu to get some groceries...” Xiao Yue glanced at the time, bashfully smiling, ”They left twenty minutes ago; they should be back soon.”

”Then I’ll wait for a bit.” Zhu Jiangyu said, tying on an apron and starting to tidy up, causing Xiao Yue to panic, ”Brother Zhu, don’t dirty your clothes.”

”It’s okay, I’ll be careful.” Zhu Jiangyu looked at his clothes, regretfully slapping his head, ”I left in such a hurry, I should’ve worn casual clothes.”

Xiao Yue blushed, casting a quick glance at Zhu Jiangyu, ”Brother Zhu, you look great in uniform.”

”The uniform tends to flatter people; it looks good on anyone. By the way, Xiao Yue, I heard from Xiao Yu that you were good at studies, but had to start working due to your family’s situation, right?” Zhu Jiangyu changed the topic.

”I also have a brother who’s in his third year of university this year; the family really can’t afford both of us...” Xiao Yue’s voice choked, unable to continue.

Zhu Jiangyu handed her a tissue, ”What do your parents do for a living?”

”My parents are both disabled; Mom is unemployed, and Dad works as a gatekeeper at a company...” Xiao Yue looked at Zhu Jiangyu with some embarrassment, ”Brother Zhu, I’ve never told anyone about my situation because I don’t want others to look down on me. Please don’t tell anyone else, alright?”

”Xiao Yue, can you tell me more about your parents? I worry you might misunderstand why I’m asking, but I have a friend who is a major shareholder at a vocational school for disabled people, and I just want to get some details to see if she can help.” Zhu Jiangyu said, ”Someone your age, who loves studying, it’d be such a waste to stop now. If given the chance to retake and go back to university, would you be willing?”

”Of course, I would!” Xiao Yue’s eyes shimmered as she gazed at Zhu Jiangyu, but then her gaze dimmed, ”My mom had a high fever when she was a child and hasn’t been able to speak clearly or remember things well since then.

My dad fell off a scaffold when he was eighteen and lost a leg, so his job prospects are limited. Brother Zhu, please don’t worry about it, I wouldn’t want your friend to feel burdened.”
