Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 969: Chapter 572: Whereabouts (Part 3)

The returning Zhu Jiangyu smiled awkwardly: ”Master Jiang, you’re exaggerating.”

Old Jiang looked at him seriously: ”Little Zhu, if you truly consider us friends, you should go and talk to the boss, how about it?”

...

At 8:30 the next morning, Zhu Jiangyu had already finished cleaning his assigned area and hurried to the main office, waiting outside Mr. Lin Jinguang’s office.

At 9:00 sharp, Lin Jinguang arrived on time, and seeing Zhu Jiangyu seated at the door, he laughed heartily: ”Little Zhu, waiting for me so early in the morning, is there something you need?”

Zhu Jiangyu stood up: ”Mr. Lin, I want to be the vice manager of the branch.”

Lin Jinguang looked him up and down: ”Come in and let’s talk.”

Half an hour later, Zhu Jiangyu left the general manager’s office with a relaxed expression.

At this moment, he truly felt relieved.

Their acquaintance began with Lin Jinguang’s father.

After leaving GF Group, he was in a state of distress and decided to go hiking, coincidentally meeting Mr. Lin, who was hiking alone. Despite the age difference, they had a pleasant conversation and spent the day together.

Mr. Lin, having experienced much in life, naturally saw his difficulties and straightforwardly asked upon parting if he would like to work at his son’s hotel. Facing uncertainty about his next steps, Zhu Jiangyu readily agreed.

Lin Jinguang did ask about his past, to which he responded that family circumstances didn’t allow him to continue studying, so he went out to work and that the gap between reality and his imagination was such that he had to climb mountains to relieve his distress.

This explanation was clearly distrusted by Lin Jinguang, who asked no further questions and merely said: ”I trust my father’s judgment, tell me what position you want.”

He replied, an ordinary staff member, which clearly surprised the other, but earned him a few appreciative glances.

With his performance over the past month seen clearly by Lin Jinguang, it was no surprise that he would forthrightly request to be the branch’s vice manager.

After a moment of silence, Lin Jinguang easily agreed, granting him a one-month trial period and, if suitable, a direct promotion to branch manager.

Feeling light-hearted, he had finally shared everything with Lin Jinguang, as if removing the weight from his chest to let the sunlight shine in.

After listening to his account, Lin Jinguang simply patted him without saying a word.

Instinctively, he knew that Lin Jinguang, too, had stories from his military days, though it was not yet time to share them.

.....

As Zhu Jiangyu reached the branch entrance, Xiao Yu eagerly came up to him, giving him a big thumbs up: ”Mr. Zhu, you’re really my idol.”

Zhu Jiangyu looked at him surprised: ”The notification came through?”

”It’s already posted up, Mr. Zhu, you’re amazing, truly, the speed, tsk tsk...,” Xiao Yu practically danced with joy, as if he had been chosen himself.

No wonder Lin Jinguang managed to expand Old Sichuan Restaurant from one to six branches in just five years, all thriving, with such efficiency, it’s beyond ordinary capabilities.

Along the way, congratulations were constant.

Upon reaching the kitchen, he ran into Vice Manager Wang head-on, who looked at him with resentment: ”Zhu Jiangyu, don’t celebrate too soon, it’s too early to conclude who the vice manager really is.”

Fed up with his attitude, Xiao Yu made a funny face: ”The notice is out, why are you still saying this?”

”Frog in a well!” Manager Wang said, turning around to walk away.

....

Two days later, at 5:00 PM.

Zhu Jiangyu busily moved between departments, realizing after two days in the role that some tasks are far more challenging than they appear.

First of all, his lack of experience meant the old employees struggled to adjust, creating difficulties for his work.

Secondly, Vice Manager Wang occasionally threw minor obstacles his way, while he only had a few friends among the kitchen staff and several among the waiters, unable to match Vice Manager Wang’s connections.

Moreover, he understood what Vice Manager Wang meant that day—being the boyfriend of Lin Qing, Mr. Lin’s niece, he indeed had the qualification to challenge him.

No doubt Lin Jinguang was also feeling his own frustrations over the past couple of days.

A waiter hurriedly came to Zhu Jiangyu’s side: ”Mr. Zhu, Miss Lin is waiting for you in the office.”

”I got it.” Zhu Jiangyu instructed a few words over the intercom and turned toward the office. What was inevitable had finally come, Miss Lin seeking him out was something he had long anticipated.
