Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 800: Chapter 478: The Gathering of Three Families

”Bad Luoluo, you still have the nerve to come back?” As Luo Ye stepped in, Xing Nong dashed over and grabbed her shoulder, shaking her back and forth. Elder Yan looked at her helplessly: ”Nongnong, you’re going to be a year older after New Year, can’t you act like an adult?”

”Mom, with her being such a mischievous monkey, can she act like an adult?” Mrs. Yan smacked her lips, ”Mom’s expectations are way too high. If she acts like an adult by forty, I’ll thank the heavens!”

Xing Nong glared at her mom indignantly, ”You only get to be with me at New Year, so if you don’t spoil me, fine, but why keep putting me down? Is this what a mom should do?”

Ying Nuo, who was rolling dumpling skins, chuckled: ”I actually think Auntie’s worries aren’t unfounded. I’ve pondered it too; if you act like an adult by forty, that’ll be great.”

”You damn Nuonuo!” Xing Nong howled as she charged at Ying Nuo, ”Let me see you act like a virtuous little wife, let me see...”

It was noon on New Year’s Eve, and because all families would celebrate with their elders and relatives in the evening, the Luo Family, the Yan Family, and the Shangguan Family chose to gather at Seventh Uncle Ye’s villa.

The men gathered to discuss serious matters, while the women and children (except Xing Nong) gathered to make dumplings. The harmonious atmosphere made the room feel even warmer.

Luo Ye took off her thick cotton coat, washed her hands, and before she could get close, Xing Nong dragged her away: ”No way, with Nuonuo competing against me, I can’t survive. You can’t make my life harder, accompany me in laziness!”

Luo Ye frowned, tapping her forehead: ”If you can’t do it, can’t you learn?” She dragged her toward Dongdong, ”Compared to Dongdong, don’t you feel embarrassed?”

”Sister Ye’er, I’m the leader of the Lei Feng study group in our class. Making dumplings is something we learned when helping the elderly with chores.” Dongdong reported proudly.

”Tch!” Xing Nong rolled her eyes and pinched Dongdong’s cheek, ”What’s there to show off? A boy learning to make dumplings, isn’t that embarrassing?”

”Qiu’er, you’re the elder sister!” Luo Ye slapped down Xing Nong’s mischievous hand and patted Dongdong’s little head, ”Dongdong is the most sensible.”

Sister Li laughed joyfully: ”Miss Ye’er praised him, now he won’t know which way is north.” She hesitated, then looked at Luo Ye, ”Miss Ye’er, after New Year, I want to take Dongdong to my parents’ home for a few days. What do you think?”

”Why wouldn’t that be possible?” Luo Ye laughed, ”From your tone, why do I feel like I’m a greedy landlord? By the way, have you resolved the issues with your family?”

Sister Li nodded: ”Yes, my father and brother have reluctantly accepted me. My relationship with my mother was always good, and as she’s aged, she particularly longs for me. So I thought I’d visit after New Year; she’s sure to be happy.”

Luo Ye thought for a moment: ”How about sending you back today, so you can stay up late with your family tonight?”

Sister Li laughed shyly: ”Miss Ye’er, in our place, married daughters can’t return to their parents’ home during New Year. Even if my mom agrees, my dad, brother, and sister-in-law wouldn’t agree.”

Dongdong quickly chimed in: ”I feel like spending New Year with Sister Ye’er is more fun.”

”You little rascal, your words are getting sweeter.” Luo Ye chuckled as she pinched Dongdong’s nose and nodded, ”Since there are customs to follow, we’ll visit after New Year. Then my brother and I will drive you back.”

Sister Li waved her hand repeatedly: ”No need, no need. Dongdong and I can take the bus home; it’s very convenient.”

”Anyway, Ye’er and Feng’er are free, they’ll probably be pleased to take a drive.” Wen Xin said, looking at Ying Nuo, ”Nuonuo should come along too.”

Ying Nuo quickly nodded: ”Auntie, I’ll go. I also want to see what the countryside is like.”

”Me too, me too,” Xing Nong eagerly chimed in, ”Tell me when, don’t leave me out.”

Luo Ye queried Sister Li: ”Since married daughters can’t return during New Year, they can’t return before then either, right?”

”Yes, they can’t return before New Year. Sending off the year customs are on the afternoon of the second day; married daughters visit their parents on the third day, but...” Sister Li’s expression darkened, ”but, that’s the day for daughters and sons-in-law to visit.”

Xing Nong hugged her arm and shook it: ”Then let’s go on the third day with Brother Luo Feng and a few of us together. If Sister Li doesn’t find it noisy, we could bring Yao Yao too, okay?”

Sister Li nodded repeatedly: ”Sure, sure, with you all, no one will dare bully us mother and son, but...”

Wen Xin interrupted her: ”If necessary, Zhenggang and I could also go.”

”No! No! No!” Sister Li waved her hands repeatedly, ”I was just worried that everyone might have other plans on the third day, not anything else.”
