Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 757: Chapter 458: The Meeting

Luo Family Living Room.

Yan Shaozheng, Sun Xian, and their son Yanyan sat upright on the sofa, Luo Zhenggang helplessly glanced at the three and looked at Yan Shaozheng: ”Old Yan, relax a bit, if you hold yourself so stiffly, they’ll just follow suit.”

”Yes, Secretary.” Yan Shaozheng moved his rear inward to sit a bit more comfortably.

Wen Xin laughed and invited, ”Have some tea. If my daughter were here, you could taste her specialty Kung Fu tea, she learned from her Grandpa and mastered about eighty percent of the skill level. As for me, it’s only about fifty percent, so just drink and make do.”

Yan Shaozheng respectfully picked up the teacup and drank it all in one go, nodding repeatedly: ”Madam, this tea is truly delicious. Sorry for troubling you.”

Sun Xian quickly chimed in: ”Yes, yes, Madam is too modest; if your tea reaches fifty percent of the skill, the tea we’ve had before would only be half as good.”

Hearing the two constantly calling her Madam, Wen Xin was somewhat helpless. In terms of age, Yan Shaozheng was five years older than Luo Zhenggang, and she was a full eight years younger than Sun Xian. No matter how many times she mentioned it, these two were determined to act younger. They didn’t mind, but it made her quite uncomfortable seeing someone much older calling her Madam, it annoyed her.

”Wen... Aunt Wen, your... your tea is really... delicious.” Yanyan, who already stuttered, struggled a lot to finish a sentence while nervous.

”Drink more if you like it,” Wen Xin smiled and added more water for him.

”Tha... thank... thank you, Aunt Wen.” Yanyan became even more excited, and the veins on his neck stood out as he spoke.

”Secretary, the child only stutters badly when nervous; normally, except for the first few words not being smooth, the rest is fine.” Yan Shaozheng hurriedly explained for his son.

The couple brought their son to visit the Secretary, naturally for their son’s future.

Recently, there’s been a vacancy at Yanyan’s workplace. With Yanyan’s work capability and experience, he met the requirements, but he just spoke a bit awkwardly.

Sun Xian quietly inquired around and learned that the leader was weighing between a deputy section chief named Huang Song and Yanyan, leaning slightly towards Huang Song.

After much consideration, Sun Xian kept advising Yan Shaozheng to take advantage of the New Year to visit Secretary Luo, hoping it might help.

Yan Shaozheng’s father had served as the Mayor of Island City, but he took office at fifty-seven, and after his term, he didn’t achieve much, so he retired according to circumstances.

But the old man laid some groundwork for his son’s connections, so Yan Shaozheng was promoted to Full Rank in his thirties, yet he lacked the ability to expand and only maintained what he had, with little movement in the past twenty years.

Until today, the only thing he adhered to correctly was firmly supporting Luo Zhenggang. In fact, he was once Luo Zhenggang’s superior.

Therefore, regarding this matter, Yan Shaozheng counts as broad-minded. His personality differs from his wife Sun Xian; if he had followed her opinion back then, he would have aligned with Mayor Huang.

It was mainly because of his stubborn character that he eventually saw the light, being promoted to Bureau Rank when nearing fifty.

Since then, his status in the family rose; his wife Sun Xian no longer bossed him around like before. However, the helpless thing for him was that his wife was the head of the family, and their son’s character was extremely similar to hers.

Yanyan was serious at work, but when it came to interacting with people, like his mother, he was extremely picky, or to put it bluntly, extremely snobbish.

Still, at his age, the character has formed, and it’s not something he can persuade by force. As a father, naturally, he hopes his son has a promising future, thus he’s left with no choice but to comply, agreeing with the mother-son duo to seek opportunities at the Secretary’s house.

Luo Zhenggang could more or less guess the purpose behind Yan Shaozheng’s family’s visit. Just because he was upright didn’t mean he couldn’t fathom people’s intentions. Being manipulated by Liu Zhengxing before wasn’t something he could avoid.

Everyone has their Achilles’ heel; Luo Zhenggang’s is being too sentimental and valuing family ties too much, which can become a hindrance in the political realm if one doesn’t meet the right mentors. He was a typical example constrained by these traits.

Over the past two years, his character changed quite a bit; he became more open-minded and his approach to things more flexible. However, this doesn’t mean he lacks principles.
