Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 613: Chapter 367: Investigation (Part 3)

Qian Ying: ”A fiancée-to-be means the engagement isn’t really settled yet, right?”

”It could be said that way!”

Qian Ying: ”If the engagement isn’t settled, it means that it could change at any time. You became nervous because of Qiao Xiaowan’s closeness to Ye Xuan, and to defend your position, you came up with this method, right?”

”Not only can an engagement change at any time, but the same can happen even after marriage. According to your logic, competing for someone else’s husband or wife is perfectly normal, right?”

”I am just stating a fact.” Qian Ying didn’t pick up on Luo Ye’s point and continued to ask: ”Qiao Xiaowan and Ye Xuan’s mother have a very good relationship, while you, on the other hand, have a somewhat tense relationship with Ye Xuan’s mother, don’t you?”

”Qiao Xiaowan does have a good relationship with Aunt Su, but it’s not right to say that my relationship with Aunt Su is tense.” Luo Ye corrected.

Qian Ying: ”The result is the same. That is Aunt Su prefers Qiao Xiaowan over you, Luo Ye, right?”

”That question is not for me to answer, because I am not Aunt Su.”

Qian Ying: ”For this case, Xue Tao and I started our investigation on the day the incident occurred. We first observed the scene backstage, then sequentially questioned several people who had the opportunity to interact with Qiao Xiaowan on that day. We came to you last because your conflict with Qiao Xiaowan is the deepest. You’d admit that, right?”

”Your purpose is to pin something on me, right?” Luo Ye’s lips curled into a mocking smile: ”What does it mean to investigate? The goal of an investigation is to restore the truth. Before the truth is out, you should not be biased against anyone. Ask yourself, have you achieved that?”

Qian Ying’s face changed, ”I am stating a fact. As an investigator, I must straightly ask the questions I want answers to. Are you suggesting I should coax you like a child, beating around the bush for days before getting to the point?”

Luo Ye coldly looked at her: ”Right from the start, your question has been an attempt to incriminate, lacking experience. You might want to learn from more experienced people. This case was given to you two as an opportunity to train by finding out the truth, not to subjectively pin a crime on someone.”

”You?” Qian Ying stood up angrily: ”Am I investigating you, or are you investigating me?”

”Your questioning has completely lost its fairness. As the person being investigated, I have the right to clarify for myself.” Luo Ye smiled faintly: ”If you were me, would you let others slander you?”

”You...” Qian Ying’s forehead veins bulged visibly. Every time she saw Luo Ye, she would think of the scene she saw that morning. Commander Ye’s eyes towards her were always polite and distant, but his gaze towards this girl was definitely warm!

Cui Xuetao pushed Qian Ying back into the chair, pinching her secretly, and then turned to look at Luo Ye: ”You can’t say it like that, Qian Ying’s questions are a bit direct, but none of it is fabricated, right?”

Luo Ye looked at her faintly: ”Please speak with evidence, not speculation. If police officers investigated based on speculation, how many innocent ghosts would there be in this world?”

”You really do have a sharp tongue. When we searched the host’s room, we found three pairs of shoes stuffed into a crevice in your dressing room. Those are the spare shoes Lin Tuanzhang had bought before. How do you explain that?”

”I think, you should have verified our relationship with Ye Xuan and from others as well.” Luo Ye spread her hands: ”I just want to ask, if you were me, would you do such a stupid thing? Risk your future to frame someone who wouldn’t be a threat to you?”

”That...” Cui Xuetao hesitated, then said: ”It is normal for a woman to act crazy in the name of love, it has nothing to do with being stupid.”

”Good, I’ll ask you, have you ruled out the suspicions on other people?”

Cui Xuetao nodded: ”Basically, yes.”

Luo Ye’s lips curled up: ”Then good, I suggest, how about letting me and Qiao Xiaowan confront each other face to face?”

Cui Xuetao and Qian Ying looked at each other and answered: ”We need to ask for permission from our leader for that.”
