Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1599 - 924: Double - _3

”My sister and I are twins; from childhood to adulthood, everything we have is split evenly between the two of us. My parents have already gotten used to this way of dividing things up.”

”Oh, I see.” Xiao Yan nodded in understanding, ”Then I feel sorry for your future wife. Having such a sister-in-law, life might not be easy for her.”

”Hehe...” Wang Qiayu awkwardly laughed, changing the topic, ”Xiao Yan, you gave up on going to university back then because of family reasons. That must have been quite a regret, right?”

”It was a bit of a regret, but last year I signed up for self-study exams, and I’ve already passed twelve subjects. Chairman Luo promised me that if I can pass all the self-study subjects in the first half of next year with scores above eighty, he’ll send me abroad to further my studies...” Xiao Yan’s eyes revealed a sense of hope, ”That’s something I never even dared to dream of before.”

”Now, I’m envious of your good fortune.” Wang Qiayu raised his glass, ”Here’s to you achieving your dream soon!”

”Thank you!”

After they put down their glasses, Yuanyuan looked at Xiao Yan with admiration, ”Sister Xiao Yan, you’re really amazing. I have a cousin who’s also doing self-study exams, and in two years, she’s only passed four subjects. She said that without super strong willpower, it’s hard to pass those self-study exams. You’re truly incredible!”

Lu Lihua chimed in, ”Yes, yes, if only I had your persistence.”

Xiao Yan looked the two of them over and smiled, ”Your personalities are quite unique. In my impression, girls who are good at studying are generally quite proud and don’t talk much, and they usually don’t get along with others, but you two are a good match.”

What she said was naturally based on something. Every time Yuanyuan spoke, Lu Lihua would immediately agree and echo her. The fact that two academically excellent girls could get along like this is truly rare.

Lu Lihua scratched her head and laughed, ”Hey, it’s mainly because I have self-awareness. Although I’m decent at studying, in other areas, I really can’t compare to Yuanyuan’s thoughtfulness.”

”That’s even more remarkable.” Xiao Yan looked at Lu Lihua with more approval, ”Which university do you most want to go to, Li Hua?”

Lu Lihua blushed and smiled, ”Beijing University and Qinghua are every student’s dream, but I know that’s just a dream for me. What I really want is to go to S University in our province.”

”Which department would you like to choose?”

”I like economics and management. I want to be a career woman like Sister Xiao Yan.”

”Yes, Li Hua’s dream is to earn enough money to sponsor a few Hope Primary Schools.” This time, it was Yuanyuan’s turn to echo.

”Oh? That’s quite rare.” Xiao Yan said, looking at Yuanyuan, ”Yuanyuan, which university do you want to apply to?”

”I still want to be a classmate with Li Hua, but I am more inclined to apply for a military academy. Right now, I’m really torn. Sister Xiao Yan, can you give me some advice?”

”Honestly, I really can’t give you advice on this. The key is to see what you want most.” After she finished speaking, seeing Yuanyuan look a bit lost, Xiao Yan explained, ”What I mean is, do you want the companionship of friends for these four years, or do you want to do a job you love for a lifetime.”

With these words, it seemed like Xiao Yan had already given the answer to Lu Lihua. Feeling that she might have misled her, Xiao Yan added, ”I’m just speaking objectively. Even if you two have a great relationship, after graduating from university, whether you can get into the same company, and whether you’ll part ways after marriage, are all uncertain.

Now, you might say, if we want to stay together, we can apply for the same company, find men from the same area, buy houses next to each other, and become lifelong friends.

But, it’s easier said than done. It’s even somewhat unrealistic, and another key point is that you are not mature enough yet to thoroughly consider these issues.

Like me...” Xiao Yan paused and continued, ”Like me and Wen Jie back then, we were so close we practically shared the same pair of pants, but what happened later?

Of course, I’m not saying this to drive a wedge between you two, nor am I saying you’ll betray each other in the future because of emotions or something else.

I’m just objectively telling you that as adults, there are many things you can’t fully control, such as considering your partner’s opinion and other necessary conditions for surviving in society, things you’re not capable of thinking about now.”

”I can vouch for Xiao Yan’s intentions. She’s genuinely thinking about you. After girls get married, there are really many things beyond their control. Even though I’m not married, there are many married female teachers at school. Whether I want to or not, I hear about it in the office from their chats.
