Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1580: Chapter 919: Help / Hatred Born from Love?

”Xiao Ning, why not just invite Teacher Wang and the others too? Teacher Wang takes such good care of you, your sister should also show some appreciation.” Li Xiaoyan tapped her forehead in frustration, ”I should have come over yesterday.”

”Sis, Teacher Wang definitely won’t agree. He’s the kind of person who hates to take advantage of students’ families.” Xiao Ning immediately rejected his sister’s suggestion.

”This can’t really be considered taking advantage of a student’s family. Anyway, I’m already going to invite others; a few more or less doesn’t make much difference.

If this were back home, I absolutely wouldn’t insist on this, but back there, the school’s funds for activities are probably just enough for you to have a bowl of ramen.

How about this? I’ll personally invite him...” After thinking it over, Li Xiaoyan dialed Qu Yue’s number, ”Chairman Qu, there’s something I need your help with...”

...

Room 202.

Wang Qiayu stood by the window, his brows tightly furrowed. The competition results were unexpectedly good, and he was naturally pleased, but the return journey was delayed by two days, making the funds he had a bit tight.

He had called the school the day before yesterday, and the principal promised to arrange for the finance department to send him the money immediately. However, when he checked at the bank earlier, the money still hadn’t arrived.

If the money doesn’t come in by tomorrow morning when the bank opens, they won’t have enough to buy long-distance bus tickets, and if they have to stay another night, the money won’t be enough either.

Thinking about Director Yu Dahu’s stingy nature gave him a headache.

He believed that the principal had surely made the arrangements, but Director Yu has this habit of holding onto outgoing funds for a couple more days if possible.

He had thought about whether or not he should remind the principal to urge Director Yu, but then thought that as unreliable as Yu Dahu might be, he probably wouldn’t mess up on this. But who would have thought that Yu Dahu actually did!

Shangguan Town is a poor town, and naturally, Shangguan Town Middle School is also a poor school, but still, it’s unacceptable to be careless in such matters. Staying one more day means spending one more day’s money...

Wang Qiayu felt his head pounding; he called the principal several times, but no one answered. What should he do?

The people he knew around here..., after thinking it over, the only person he seemed to know was Wen Jie, but he couldn’t even recognize the person before, so how could he ask for help?

Besides, the hotel was run by Wen Jie’s brother-in-law. If because of this, it caused Wen Jie to be looked down upon by her in-law’s family, he’d be at fault.

The students had come all this way and surely wanted to bring back some souvenirs. So when Li Xiao Ning’s sister said she would take everyone to buy local specialties, he didn’t object.

If he had known in advance that Yu Dahu could be so unreliable, he should have discussed with a few students to borrow some money to use first and pay them back once back at school... sigh, he was careless. By then, it was already past three o’clock, why didn’t he check the account first?

He had calculated several times, and after paying for accommodation, there would be only twenty-one yuan and nine cents left, not even enough for half a bus ticket. One penny could indeed stall a hero, and now he truly experienced it!

If there’s really no other way, he’d just have to ask Wen Jie for help, borrow a little money quietly, and remitt the money back to her as soon as he’s back at school... It seems that’s the only way now!

”Knock, knock...”

Opening the door, Li Xiaoyan and Xiao Ning stood at the entrance, and Wang Qiayu quickly masked his worried expression: ”Back so soon? Please come in.”

Li Xiaoyan smiled: ”Teacher Wang, the thing is, I’m inviting Wen Jie’s family for dinner tonight, and I wondered if you could bring the students along, would that be okay?”

”Uh...” Wang Qiayu hesitated slightly and shook his head to refuse, ”I really appreciate your kindness, but it’s not right for you to go to such an expense. Let Xiao Ning go instead.”

”Teacher Wang, it’s not really my expense. Our company has a benefit where if you’ve worked for a year, you can bring your family to dine at the company twice for free, and it’s limited to ten people.

I’ve been with the company for over two years and have never used this benefit. This time, since Xiao Ning is here and we met Wen Jie, I thought it’d be nice for everyone to get together.

Teacher Wang, I am also from Shangguan Town and attended Shangguan Town Middle School, so I know how tight the school’s funds are there.

I suspect the money you brought for this trip is just barely enough to cover expenses...” After a moment of hesitation, Li Xiaoyan continued, ”With the two-day delay, if the school hasn’t sent additional funds, you probably won’t even have enough money for the return bus tickets, right?”

”No... it’s not...” Wang Qiayu was not good at lying, and being confronted with his current predicament, he became a bit flustered, embarrassedly stammering without being able to say anything coherent for a while.
