Bear School Astartes

Belengar always speaks with a sneering, mocking feeling.

It’s not that he bears any malice or sprays ’venom’ with his words.

It seems more like it’s just his speaking style.

Though this style isn’t particularly likable, it generally lacks malice.

Lann wondered if everyone in the Wolf School had this problem.

Geralt, Lambert, Belengar... these guys always managed to launch a set of sarcastic words in a bland tone at zero frames.

If it were the Magic Middle Ages, ordinary people near Belengar or other members of the Wolf School would likely get furious quickly.

But here, with the New Continent Expedition Team...

The one-eyed bald man first stroked his steel-brush-like beard, pondered for a moment, and then laughed, scratching his bald head: ”Hahaha! Only now do I realize how dangerous it was back then!”

”So I indeed have quite the big life! Right, disciples?”

”Oh! Master indeed seems to have quite the big life!” *N

Laughter echoed in agreement around.

Whether it was the second expedition leader or his disciples, they seemed unfazed by Belengar’s ’Wolf School’s hidden needle in cotton, cold sarcasm’ style.

Belengar’s mouth pursed up immediately.

The habitually sarcastic guy felt uncomfortable himself when the other side didn’t react at all.

Lann watched on, amused.

But Belengar just shrugged it off and got back to business.

”That’s about it.” He raised the draft plans in his hand toward Lann, ”The forging technique will be led by me, shape subtly adjusted as you mentioned, any issues?”

”No issues, I completely trust in your abilities.”

Lann smiled and shrugged.

”However, there’s one thing I need to tell you upfront.” After receiving a positive response, Belengar looked at the young Demon Hunter with serious and solemn eyes.

This serious demeanor made Lann also become serious.

”According to your description of Smaug, this set of armor definitely... won’t be easy to wear. It’ll be quite sinister. Be mentally prepared.”

”Just go for it, Belengar.” Lann patted his shoulder with a smile, ”Even if Smaug resurrects right in front of me, I can kill it again face-to-face.”

The old Demon Hunter shook his head, put away the draft plans: ”Anyway, you said it, I’ll just focus on the work.”

-----------------

Interacting with Lann was just a simple inquiry between two great craftsmen and their ’customer’ for custom services.

The real creation of the plans and casting stage, a layperson like Lann couldn’t participate, nor was there a need to discuss it with him.

So, life at the Star Base temporarily settled into a routine.

The dissection and research of the [Fog Nest Master] proceeded methodically, the first day Lann only removed the internal organs, but its muscles, bones, nerves, glands... countless more parts were still deeply embedded in the massive body over forty meters in length.

These relatively smaller organs required more precise swordsmanship and a more rigorous approach to cutting.

Fortunately, Lann had great confidence in both.

Tishaya would visit the arena every day, ensuring her spell sealing Chaos Magic Power was in place.

Then she would borrow Lann’s Elf Beacon, as she put it, ’conduct theoretical research without the convenience of magic.’

Recently meeting with Lann, the Female Warlock had completely shed her initial awkwardness or struggle when replenishing Magic Power, appearing immersed in academics and thought instead.

Even while dining at the Weapon and Mountain Cat Pavilion, she would suddenly stop, showing a contemplative expression.

Being the strongest and most ancient Female Warlock among humans, she had not achieved her current success solely due to her seniority and age.

Her innate talent and obsession with research and focus were the foundations of her growth.

Thus, she was unsatisfied with the hedonism and power struggles permeating the current Female Warlock community.

Tishaya’s theoretical field research seemed to be making progress, while Lann was not lacking in research either.

In the mornings, he would perform the primary dissections of the [Fog Nest Master] in the arena.

In the afternoons, he would work with scholars from the Ecological Research Institute to study the organs extracted from the [Fog Nest Master].

The primary research objects were the [Fog Nest Master’s] gastric sac and kidneys.

Among them, the kidneys, corresponding to the enhancement surgery of [Pebble Kidney], were relatively easy for him to study.

Thanks to the [Fog Nest Master]’s partially spiritualized state, its organs, even after being dissected for several days, remained in much better condition than the organs of other creatures in similar storage conditions.

After joining the scholars’ research, Lann, with the help of the bio-intellect in his brain, quickly understood the knowledge contained in these organs.

He recorded [Enhanced Organ Knowledge: Fog Nest Master Terror Dragon’s Kidney] in Mentos’s database.

Even the by-products in the research process have achieved the expected results.

Lann meticulously studied the biochemical reactions of this kidney during the detoxification and filtration process.

From it, he derived a crimson liquid that could be prepared externally using a grinding solution from the kidney of a Terror Tyrannosaurus as a base, which looked somewhat like the color of kidney turned into plasma.

It functions as a slow-release potent antidote combined with a recovery potion, targeting a wide range of toxins, essentially capable of neutralizing any poisons a Terror Tyrannosaurus might ingest.

Moreover, upon use, the consumer’s demand for nutrients significantly increases while the drug takes effect.

The craving and obsession for food seem to have seeped into every organ and cell of the Terror Tyrannosaurus.

However, as a benefit, if the user is well-nourished, they will gain a recovery capability far surpassing normal levels.

Based on the standard human body of the Magic Middle Ages, represented by Tishaya temporarily losing magic, it could essentially triple the recovery rate.

Additionally, being a ’slow-release’ potion, its effects can last for two days in a normal human body.

Yes, it can be used by ordinary people, and it has much broader applicability compared to the White Honey and Swallow potions of Demon Hunters.

...But its preparation cost ’compensates’ for this point.

If it weren’t for the Ecological Research Institute next door’s aid, with the Plant Research Institute temporarily growing many herbs grafted onto the ’little ancient tree’ at the base, and utilizing the vigorous life force of the ’little ancient tree’ to mature them within a day,

Lann wouldn’t have been able to produce it in such a short time. Merely gathering materials would take three to four days.

Especially here in the New Continent, where flowers can regrow by the following morning after being picked.

Nevertheless, this antidote, named Big Appetite Energy by the director of the Ecological Research Institute, has indeed fulfilled the promise Lann made to the Ember Knights before departure.

The slow-release effect of this antidote is sufficient for the potion group of the Cyan Grass Trial to suppress toxicity to a non-lethal level while maintaining the ability to transform the human body.

Additionally, its feature of ’tripling recovery ability when nutrients are adequately supplied’ can greatly increase the Ember Knights’ chances of withstanding genetic mutation.

Even the New Continent Expedition Team praised the potion’s effectiveness, and Dragon-man race’s Dou Ding’Er Granny, in charge of the alchemy cauldron, is already preparing to include this potion in their formulation list.

The added resistance to toxins combined with substantial recovery enhancement is also very useful for New Continent Hunters.

Unfortunately, the issue of scarce materials remains.

Just the grinding solution from the kidney of a Terror Tyrannosaurus is troublesome. Upon returning to Airetusa, at least Lann can use crystal cultivation techniques to produce it; however, here, it relies purely on hunting a Terror Tyrannosaurus.

Conversely, many potent medicinal materials unique to the New Continent cease to be available upon returning to the Magic Middle Ages, yet they are continuously abundant here.

In a way, it’s a trade-off between the two places.

The dissection and analysis of the Fog Nest Master’s kidney segment came to a standstill at the gastric sac, which stumped Lann.

Due to the semi-spiritualization caused by the curse, the gastric sac, being the place on the Fog Nest Master where curse magic is most concentrated, exhibited the most severe erosion and semi-spiritualization.

During the battle, when Muddy Stream·Destruction struck other parts, it could devour flesh and release dragon attribute energy weaker than usual.

But if it struck the gastric sac, it might have felt like ’biting’ into emptiness.

Other scholars from the Ecological Research Institute could not intervene at all, and Lann did not recommend their involvement with such heavily magic-corrupted organs, although the magic is presently sealed by a curse.

”It’s more a study of magic than of biological organs, sir,” Lann listened to Mentos while attentively handling the enormous gastric sac before him.

The biochemical intelligence system was compiling various information from the organ ahead, entering them into the database, waiting for them to finally integrate into new ’Enhanced Organ Knowledge.’

But the knowledge contained within this organ was clearly spanning from biology into mysticism.

”This was anticipated, Mentos.”

Lann’s focused gaze remained undeterred, he murmured almost to himself.

He used a scalpel to slice off a thin piece of the stomach wall, and transferred it with its preservation liquid to the microscope at the Ecological Research Institute.

His cat-like eyes peered through the eyepiece, while the tweezers in his hand carefully and steadily manipulated the sample with minimal amplitude, displaying it from every angle in front of him.

”An organ potent enough to digest magic, it would be strange if it wasn’t linked to magic and alchemy,” murmured Lann. His cat-like eyes suddenly narrowed slightly, ”Record this as the thirty-third cellular form discovered in its stomach.”

”Recording complete,” Mentos completed the task, then continued with an opinion.

”However, I must say, sir. If this organ delves too deeply into mysticism, then even if we fully understand it, making it functional within your body might still require...”

The biochemical intelligence system stopped mid-sentence, aware the subject understood what it was about to say.

And the unspoken words conveyed sufficient importance to the subject.

Lann indeed knew.

He calmly adjusted the microscope’s objective, yet his mouth softly uttered a word.

The name of a spell.

”Alzur’s Double Cross.”
