Bear School Astartes

”Wow...”

Having just taken a sip of the [Swallow] potion, Lann felt the changes in his body after ingesting the magic potion, and couldn’t help but let out a low exclamation.

The [Swallow] potion is not [Superior Swallow].

This was a basic potion that Lann specifically made to test the reaction of the magic potion and the [Balisarril Furnace].

But as soon as this sip of basic potion was consumed, Lann felt the reserves of fat and energy in his body rapidly burning.

Captured by the [Balisarril Furnace], it was then converted into a compound unique to this super organ, promoting accelerated regeneration.

It was like a video rewinding, but a hundred times faster.

The massive gash on Lann’s chest, cut open by himself to fit a hand inside for surgery,

was now quickly growing flesh and closing the gap.

The forced high-speed physiological activity generated a large amount of thermal energy overflow, so much so that visible white smoke rose from the wound on Lann’s chest.

The [Balisarril Furnace] does not resist the effects of substances entering the body because Interstellar Warriors also frequently inject themselves with substances, using them as wartime stimulants is not uncommon.

Moreover, many techniques of the Interstellar Warrior pharmacists are used for on-the-spot injections and emergency treatment in battle.

The magic potion seemed to have passed the examination of Lann’s many super organs, with the Genetic Seed and the Holy Chant Gland, both possessing the ability to monitor physiological states, accepting the potion.

Under the dual stimulation, Lann only took a single sip of ordinary [Swallow], yet the effects were more potent than a bottle of [Superior Swallow]!

Even the accumulation of toxicity was greatly reduced.

If not for the different taste, such recovery speed made Lann almost believe he was drinking [Pure White Rafad].

It’s just that...

”Damn!”

Lann suddenly covered his eyes, which instantly felt dry to the point of pain.

The accelerated regeneration of the [Balisarril Furnace] is not witchcraft or magic, but scientific technology.

The main scenario for this super organ’s activity is on interstellar battlefields, where the surface is often swept clean, enhancing the survival rate of Interstellar Warriors.

Therefore, when it becomes active and effective, the effects tend to be... quite brutal.

It just aims to prevent the death of Interstellar Warriors, but besides death... many costs are acceptable.

The ’mass of flesh’ generated in such a short time over the wound was far more brutal than any recovery method Lann had ever experienced.

Efficient, durable, brutal... these seem to be common characteristics of the super organs of Interstellar Warriors.

To make up for this ’mass of flesh,’ water in Lann’s body was urgently drawn, along with fat and protein.

So now he felt not only extreme dryness in his eyes but also his brain functioning as if trying to do math problems after days of starvation.

Fortunately, the alchemy pouch which he always carried contained clean water and food supplies.

After chugging a water bag and some accompanying food, Lann felt his body come back to life.

”Phew~ Alright then.”

The Demon Hunter wiped his water-dripping mouth with the back of his hand, speaking in a low voice.

”With the super-regeneration ability permanently obtained through technological means... what more could you ask for?”

The magic potions and decoctions of the Demon Hunter, although also deep alchemical knowledge, had effects so outstanding that Demon Hunters would endure the toxicity and taste to gulp them down.

But facing monsters, Demon Hunters could still prepare by drinking magic potions, applying sword oil, and setting traps before a fight.

Yet in this world, Demon Hunters never short of those who, while riding on horseback, are suddenly ambushed by bandits and killed by a single crossbow arrow from the shadows.

Magic potions, after all, don’t provide endurable abilities, but only function during their effective period.

In sudden battles, in ever-changing complex environments, enduring abilities, and those needing preparation beforehand make a difference.

Even if the delay in activation is only a moment, a difference is still a difference.

A moment can decide life or death.

For this moment, many warriors are willing to exhaust every possibility to earn it.

And now, Lann already possessed such power.

”Sadly, the consumption is too high.”

Philixia had left after the organ cultivation was complete, leaving Lann alone in the laboratory.

After the surgery, Lann leaned against the wall, bent over with hands on knees, panting for breath.

The silver hair clung sweatily, drooping from a side profile that could only be described as beautiful.

The [Balisarril Furnace] grants the ability of accelerated regeneration, but at the same time, this super organ also brings extremely high ’energy consumption.’

Although Lann had slightly controlled his diet because of the surgery, he didn’t feel empty before it ended.

But after his chest had healed from a gaping wound that could fit an entire hand, he literally felt himself drained.

”But this is the normal output of the [Balisarril Furnace], master.”

Mentos was monitoring Lann’s physiological activities in real-time, and now calmly reported.

”Of course, I know.”

The Demon Hunter knew very well, the high ’energy consumption’ of the [Balisarril Furnace] is not a problem of this super organ, but his own problem.

Although Lann’s bare basic physical attributes can already match a Primaris Space Marine, considering his ’Primaris Trinity’ surgery is now complete.

But within his body’s internal cycle, there are still too many ordinary human organs.

Compared with the super organs born from the wisdom of the Human Emperor, these ordinary organs appear weak and delicate.

They cannot keep up with the intensity of the super organ’s physiological activities, so Lann’s endurance capability is not superior.

Furthermore, the Interstellar Warriors are backed by a Human Empire that spans the galaxies, and even their daily food is specially prepared combat resources.

However, Lann’s alchemy made sure he was not left behind in terms of food energy compared to the regular Interstellar Warriors.

In essence, the surgery for Interstellar Warriors is a series of mutually supporting and enhancing systems.

Lann has managed to maximize an incomplete surgical chain, and even within the realm of [Deep Memory], he wouldn’t find anyone else quite like himself.

But the overall coordination of various enhanced organs within the body... an incomplete surgical chain is still incomplete.

”So, have you finally finished tidying up?”

With a slightly pale face, Lann scratched his head, looking at Geralt, who was mounted on a horse.

They were outside the city of Gos Velen, where Geralt had sent a letter to Airetusa, arranging to meet here.

When Lann emerged from the magical boat within the cave beneath the academy, he saw Geralt in a posture ready for a long journey.

The sky appeared clear now, but the wind blowing in from the sea carried moisture and a salty taste.

The yellow sandy beach was being beaten by waves, while the high-altitude white clouds were shaped into tight scales by the sea breeze.

Lann and Geralt’s hair was being tousled and swayed by the sea wind.

However, in this area beyond Gos Velen, where everything was muddy swamps, the relentless gloomy rains or downpours were quite the norm.

After all, this province is coastal, and only the witches on Sandy Island can use mana to dispel storms or heavy rains.

”Yes, I’ve finished my business.”

Geralt’s new horse was idly scratching a piece of wild grass with its hooves, and Lann suspected that this horse was named Radish.

The old Demon Hunter’s hoarse voice seemed a bit indistinct in the wind, as his cat-like eyes gazed toward the sea.

The air was filled with a damp earthy scent.

”The wind is strong, it’s going to rain soon.”

”Indeed.”

Lann also glanced at the sun and the fish-scaled clouds in the sky, agreeing with Geralt’s observation.

”Do you need me to wait for you another day? You don’t look so good.”

Geralt looked into Lann’s eyes while sitting upright on his horse, the young man shook his head in response.

”Then are you heading back to Gos Velen?”

”No.” Geralt rejected Lann’s suggestion, grinding his molars beneath his calm expression.

”Staying within Gos Velen without work, that’s a bit... too extravagant.”

Those who work hard to earn money often tend to be more cautious when spending it.

Lann chuckled, ”Raising a girl at Ker Morhan costs money, right?”

Geralt didn’t deny it.

Lann didn’t say much else, merely rubbing a ring that matched his Magic Horse Harness.

Soon, a Qilin galloped over from the distant horizon over the sea.

”Hiss!”

The speed of the Qilin could even kick up waves on the sea, but when it wanted to stop, it did so smoothly, without a ripple.

However, the electric sparks that burst forth from its pale mane still startled Geralt’s Radish into retreating.

He had to rein in his horse while using the [Yakxi Rune] to calm it.

After Lann communicated with the Qilin using a modified [Yakxi Rune], it ran off towards the sea again.

This time, it was heading to the secret cave to fetch Rong Buqiu and put on the Magic Horse Harness, then bring back the little cat.

The Qilin was very fast; hence, Lann liked to assign it to errands.

”By the way, does my face really look that bad?”

Lann felt his cheeks and raised an eyebrow at Geralt in inquiry.

”Compared to before,” Geralt scrutinized his friend carefully and agreed. ”Your complexion does look rough. But compared to most, it’s still okay.”

Lann clicked his tongue and shook his head.

Clearly, the melding of [Inner Steel] within his body with muscles and nerves continued, with sensations of sore itch and pain flaring up constantly.

Though he tried his best to control it, some of the pain inevitably showed on his face.

In addition, the newly implanted [Belisarius Furnace] had evidently extracted a lot of nutrition from his body yesterday, which couldn’t be replenished in just a few days.

This was why he appeared pale and fatigued.

But Geralt did not understand the underlying reasons, thinking Lann’s pallor was due to troubling matters.

”I remember you never cared much about money before, Lann.”

His face broke into a subtle smile, as he leaned forward with interest, elbows resting on the pommel of the saddle.

”Why? Isn’t Airetusa providing support to rescue your business?”

Lann cast a sidelong glance at the old fellow nearing a hundred years.

”Do you think that’s likely?”

”Honestly, no.” Geralt answered frankly. ”So, I believe it’s mostly your ’boring pride’ that’s stopping you from accepting assistance.”

The Wolf School’s knack for catching people off guard with words allowed Geralt to quote a description Lann once used for him, and now turn it back on Lann himself.
