Chapter 954: Chapter 936: Survivors

The Pope Witch’s words were subtle and polite, yet they could not mask the malice and sarcasm within.

”For the safety of the Shadow Sun, please ask Princess You’Er Xia to step forward.”

Simo’s teeth under the golden mask were nearly ground to dust.

What did they mean by ’step forward’? It was nothing but an attempt to imprison the last divine bloodline of Ilyushil!

Already volatile by nature, and made cruel by a lifetime as an executioner, Simo almost couldn’t contain his rage.

Carrying his hammer, he was ready to charge ahead.

But all impulsive actions came to an abrupt halt when the Pope Witch displayed a lock of pale hair.

”Please stop.”

A soft, fleeting doll-like voice emanated from the mansion guarded by Simo and the Silver Knights.

Princess You’Er Xia, dressed in a white gauzy gown, with a tail white and pink peeking out from beneath her fluffy skirt, stepped forward slowly.

She stared at the lock of white hair in the Pope Witch’s hand.

It was Gwendolin’s hair, her brother’s white hair!

The sinners... actually dared harm the divine!

Though Princess You’Er Xia’s expression changed little due to her nature, her incredulous gaze showed she had never considered such a possibility.

”I...”

The Half-Dragon Girl clasped her hands nervously at her chest. After a hesitant pause, she seemed to finally muster the courage to overcome her fear.

”I’ll go with you!”

”Princess You’Er Xia!”

Simo, who had served the divine race since the beginning of the Fire Age, almost forgot the etiquette of thousands of years in that moment and tried to physically stop Princess You’Er Xia.

But the Half-Dragon Girl lowered her head and shook it.

”Everything... my brother’s safety is paramount. I will make a demand: if they are to imprison me, they must promise to ensure my brother’s safety.”

Simo breathed heavily with emotion, and his chest heaved visibly even beneath his massive armor.

”But what if they go back on their word?”

”Go back on their word?”

The Half-Dragon Girl looked perplexed at Simo, as if she didn’t understand the term.

Simo sighed helplessly; Gwendolin, as the current God King, might not possess the might of Great King G Wen or the divine’s firstborn son, but he was certainly diligent.

But it seemed he was overprotective of his young sister.

”It means breaking their promises! Princess! They are betrayers, capable of heresy, defying the divine; can you really trust them to keep their word?!”

For a moment, Princess You’Er Xia was at a loss for words, her mouth slightly open.

But soon, she pursed her lips and shook her head.

”But... there’s no other way, Knight Simo.”

The Half-Dragon Girl turned to the hammer-wielding executioner beside her, her pure and bewildered eyes now resolute in a ’no choice but to do it’ decision.

”My brother is in their hands.”

Under her brother’s protection, the naive divine girl’s words stifled Simo.

[Shadow Sun] Gwendolin, this was the real reason the heretics were so audacious, and Pope Shalivan indulged their demands.

The youngest son of the Sun King, Sect Leader of the Divine Race, Master of Ilyushil... the second pillar extending the Fire Transmission Ceremony in this Fire Apocalypse.

All these titles and what they represented were incredibly important.

Important enough to almost symbolize the hope of the world’s continuation!

Using Gwendolin’s sudden illness and the outbreak of Moon Worms, they took control of him... from that moment, they indeed had won.

Simo finally admitted to a point he had long refused to accept in his heart.

The unworldly Princess You’Er Xia shattered the small hope Simo had deliberately maintained in his heart.

In that instant, this formidable Divine Era Knight, who could wield a hammer as large as a water tank to destroy half of the Divine Capital plaza, felt deflated, as if even his hammer, used for thousands of years, now seemed heavy.

Behind the battle formation of the attacking Undead Knights, the Pope Witch withdrew the lock of hair taken from the slumbering divine being.

Beside the Pope Witch stood Archbishop Louis, gaunt and short, yet still wearing a dignified and luxurious archbishop robe and high crown, swallowing saliva indiscreetly.

His gaze returned only when he could no longer see the lock of hair in the Pope Witch’s hand.

”Ah.”

The Pope Witch laughed in a twisted, cruel voice.

Archbishop Louis’s uncontrollable hunger was too conspicuous.

”Does that lock of hair make you hungry, Archbishop? Seems like the ordinary Moon Nobles in Ilyushil City can no longer satisfy your appetite?”

”No, no, no, divine flesh is the food of the master.”

With faint red light gleaming in his eyes, Archbishop Louis wiped the saliva from his mouth.

”Moon Nobles are delicious enough. We are guardians in the master’s process of devouring the divine, not petty gluttons.”

As Louis spoke, a fireball condensed at the tip of his staff and flew toward the mansion.

”But the master has grown a bit impatient. He eagerly desires to know from the Pope... when can the feast begin?”

One of the original archbishops of the Profound Church spoke in a half-serious, half-joking tone.

”The master has endured too long, especially when the Shadow Sun was so close yet out of reach. Frankly speaking, my fellow MacDonald is now scraping food from his mouth, becoming a bit thin from hunger.”

”Not long now, not long now...” The Pope Witch said with a smile.

Her twisted mind becomes happy just at the thought of something cruel and tragic.

”As long as the Dark Moon Sword Knight Order can’t be mobilized, there’s no more hesitation. Maybe we can start today.”

”Ah!” Louis was overjoyed, finally receiving a precise answer. He eagerly looked past the warriors’ formation to You’Er Xia standing in front of the mansion.

”So naive, so... delicious.”

He uncontrollably drooled and quickly wiped it with the sleeve of his archbishop’s robe.

”It seems today is truly a good day.”

Just as Archbishop Louis and the Pope Witch had hoped.

On the surface, she still has armed forces, but the Half-Dragon Girl actually possesses no trump card or resistance, ultimately having to comply with their words.

One has his faith eroded by the Profound, and the other has their mind twisted by the Sin Flame.

Looking at the pure and naive Divine Race bloodline, she resembles a deer straying into darkness, timid in heart but bravely trying to uphold the dignity of the Divine Race, stepping out of the mansion’s defensive line towards them.

That above-average appearance and staggering small steps might be the last display of fear from You’Er Xia.

And neither the Pope Witch nor Archbishop Louis rushed her.

They savored the fear emanating from her and found it incredibly delicious.

”She still thinks that as long as she walks out, her brother will be safe.”

The Pope Witch chuckled sinisterly under her breath.

Beside her, Archbishop Louis licked the drool from the corner of his mouth, continuously whispering ’good day, good day.’

They both knew what was about to happen.

This naive, ignorant Half-Dragon Girl would offer herself in sacrifice as a condition for her demands.

And these demands they would all accept, without even deferring... because none of these demands would ever be realized.

Knightly spirit, words and deeds... haha!

Submerged in the illusions of the past Divine Race, it would be better for them to just drown in those illusions.

Now, as the fire is about to extinguish, not only the world’s rules are collapsing, but human rules as well.

They watched the Half-Dragon Girl’s displaying timidity and courage, one step, two steps...

Soon, this girl would be tricked, deceived, and when the time came, they would feast on her!

Archbishop Louis only felt the drool at the corner of his mouth flowing even more.

Although he knew, for safety’s sake, before Gwendolin was completely devoured by the master, the Dark Moon Pope likely wouldn’t allow the Divine descendant’s flesh to be given.

Yet he couldn’t resist.

The longer he followed Elderidge, the more the Profound power and cannibalistic concept influenced the followers.

Until the once somewhat rational Louis now had his mind full of nothing but eating.

But just as the Pope Witch was indulging in the pleasure of inflicting pain, and the archbishop fantasizing about feasting on the Divine descendant...

The clip-clop sound of hooves striking stone paved road reverberated faintly from afar.

The drool at Louis’s mouth corner instinctively pulled back.

This sound gave him a familiar eeriness.

It’s absurd to say that a person who has entrusted faith to the Profound, routinely practicing the master’s cannibalistic concepts, ’feeling life’s tremble while eating,’

Still has the capacity to feel eerie.

But indeed, Louis’s mind couldn’t help but recall that day.

The day when the master had just awoken, they got driven out from their base, the Profound Church!

On that day, a similar sound of hooves striking the ground echoed.

But how could that be?

Louis felt like he was hallucinating.

The Profound Church and Cold Valley are far apart, the route between them becoming perilously dangerous due to the impending end of the fire.

How could that person...

”Zzzap!”

A thunderous blast shredding through the air suddenly echoed across the confrontation square!

The azure blue lightning from natural phenomena, crackling with branch-like patterns flashed by Louis’s side.

Before he finished the thought of ’possible,’ he immediately felt a lightness in his body.

His entire view soared into the sky.

Within the spin of perspective, he saw a body clad in a luxurious archbishop robe, devoid of head, minus the high crown suddenly collapsed.

The residual of that eerie sensation still lingered in Louis’s mind, yet his head had already taken flight from his body.

Finally, he only faintly heard a sentence being swept past.

”If I’d seen it was you dead-enders, I wouldn’t have bothered figuring out the situation.”
