Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1818: To Scheme Against Gods [Bonus]

Chains descended from above, black and heavy. They radiated a deep fog that filled the skies.

The Azurex roared again, but this time in pain. Its beautiful coat was almost instantly marred by burns and sizzling flesh.

The scent of cooked meat filled the air just as the Azurex locked eyes with Sylas, who still sat on the edge of the city wall. The moment their gazes crossed, it was like the Azurex saw a flash of the end of the world.

A pair of golden slit eyes reflected in its own irises, the flames of blue and silver in its gaze dimming considerably as it lost any power whatsoever.

Sylas continued to sit there, one leg dangling over the side of the wall, the other with a heel pressed into its edge. Slowly, he raised a palm.

The skies flashed with emerald lightning.

PUCHI.

It all happened so fast.

It looked as though the skies and earth were connected by a single line of radiant green, lighting up the darkness thathung everywhere in the blink of an eye.

In one moment, the Azurex was struggling against the chains. In the next moment, it froze.

A crystal blade pierced through the center of its head and down through its jaw, pinning it to the ground where it stood. Its head still hung high in the skies, easily 20 or even 25 meters, the rest of the length of its body snaking along the ground.

But it was still deader than dead.

A single strike and a God was slayed.

The spawns werenʼt blank slates. They had a foundational knowledge, downloaded into them by the system. After all, they werenʼt babies. They were adults. If they didnʼt have a foundational knowledge, they wouldnʼt be able to contribute to a city properly.

The worth of this knowledge was decided by the grade of the city and the personal grade of the spawn. That was to say that Sylasʼ spawns, and specifically Vera herself, had access to the highest quality of knowledge possible.

They knew what Mortals were. They knew what Demi-Gods were. They certainly knew what Gods were.

And they knew it when they saw it.

The words Sylas had spoken before echoed in their ears.

He had said he would only prove himself to them a single time and then never again.

He had said that he had seen the pinnacle of the universe and that they werenʼt impressive to him in the slightest.

It had only taken a single minute for him to prove it.

Yet, Sylas was far from finished. What happened next was probably even more shocking to them all.

[Contract Echo].

The Beast Totem paused and a roar split the air. Sylasʼ palm opened wide and the Death Seal appeared. He slapped down almost casually.

As though the magic circle of a grand wizard, the Death Seal expanded and surged forward, pressing down with the might of a world.

The chains and resistance vanished and the roar was erased from the air.

The sight of a soul being pulled from the body of the fallen Azurex was one of the most surreal things the spawns had ever experienced in their short lifetimes... and they had just seen a mortal kill a God in a single strike.

The Will of the fallen Azurex was ripped out and an illusory Soul Construct rose, roaring into the skies.

It looked toward Sylas and then bowed its head before turning toward the portal.

Right at that moment, a second Azurex appeared. They didnʼt even get the chance to understand the world around them before the black chains descended and the maw of the Azurex Soul Construct bit down, ripping a chunk out of its neck.

Sylas casually raised a palm and pressed down with Death Seal once more.

Soon, a second [Contract Echo] was cast, and a second Azurex Soul Construct formed.

It felt like the spawns were watching a genocide in real time. Corpses began to pile up, and never once, not a single time, did Sylas seem to care enough to stand to his feet.

When the army of the Azurex Soul Constructs grew to ten, Sylas seemed to have finally begun breaching limitations of his own.

It was quite impressive, Sylas had to admit. Vipermancy was E-tier, and his Will was Infinite in theory. Yet, he was already starting to feel pressure on his Will after having Contracted just ten Azurex Soul Constructs.

Contract Echo was a temporary contract designed to use Serpentes from beyond the dead. There were many reasons why one would want to do this. One such situation was exactly this one, where Sylas couldnʼt take on the bandwidth of forcing a God Beast into submission right now and still have enough left in the tank for the rest of the battle.

But another reason was precisely because of how easily these Azurex took down their own kind.

What were the black chains? They certainly werenʼt an ability of Sylasʼ own.

Those black chains were the results of the Demon World rejecting those without Demonic Will. They were facing a similar suppression to what a Demon would experience upon entering the Real World.

The real reason Sylas had the supply line formed was to ensure the Secret Realm of the Golden Race had enough of a foothold to influence the situation here.

And it had worked out perfectly.

Sylas wasnʼt a fool. He knew he wasnʼt strong enough to defeat real Gods. Even in the F-tier, it would take everything he had just to barely survive, let alone the fact much stronger Gods would be coming.

However, he had still chosen to do this despite knowing what was coming.

This world wasnʼt something Sylas feared anymore.

When he first entered the Tutorial, he made countless mistakes because he simply didnʼt have enough information... Now he was no longer nearly so naive.

Let alone being caught off guard and making mistakes, Sylas had the capital to scheme against Gods.

ROAR.
