Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1802: Charysm (1)

The Duchess gritted her teeth. She was trying to rein in her emotions, but she didnʼt have enough experience with Demonic Marriage. She didnʼt know the limits of what Sylas could do. And unfortunately for her, Sylas wasnʼt aware either. If she had known this, she would certainly have been more aggressive, but Sylas didnʼt exactly have a face that was easy to read.

But now, Sylas had what she felt like was control over her, and he knew her fatherʼs True Name. If he could genuinely control her freely, and he could restrain her father... There literally wasnʼt a single person here that could stop him from massacring everyone.

What she didnʼt know, because she wasnʼt there to witness it, was that Sylasʼ advantage was more than just her and her father. The entirety of the Blazara Clan had committed suicide after seeing the flames of the Scorned Wraps.

There was a good reason Sylas had said that his Chaotic Sovereign Gene Class Progression Quest would be the easier of the two to complete. He never said anything without full assurances.

”I have no need to kill you if you cooperate,” Sylas said calmly. ”Come with me.”

After saying this, Gogo swished his tail and snorted. By now, Gogoʼs telekinesis had become so powerful that even flying through the skies wasnʼt an issue for him.

This wasnʼt a small feat. After all, Gogo wasnʼt just 50 meters long, but he weighed probably as much as any mountain. The amount of mass he could move was substantial.

Sylas had long stopped counting the power of his telekinesis in terms of mass. At some point, the numbers became so ridiculous that it wasnʼt worth it. There was certainly another, far more efficient method of measuring progress.

Much like a lot of things, though, Sylas simply hadnʼt had the time to do a deep dive. But he had a feeling that the answer was probably in the Arcane Telekinesis reward he had received.

If only the world would stop throwing problem after problem at him.

That said... if Sylas was honest with himself, he probably wouldnʼt rather have it any other way. If he had time to breathe and prepare... Where would the challenge be?

”Why should I follow you?” the Duchess asked after Sylas and Gogo were already dozens of meters away.

Sylas didnʼt reply.

”I asked you a question. If you took me as a wife, shouldnʼt you allow me at least that grace?”

”I didnʼt take you as a wife. It was a necessary evil with an unfortunate side effect.”

Rage flashed in the Duchessʼ eyes. ”How dare you say that to me?”

She stood in the skies without movement, her fists clenching so hard space was cracking and crumbling around them. The power in her body bordered on ridiculous. And it truly seemed endless.

Sylas didnʼt reply, but he couldnʼt help but think of girlfriends he had had outside of Cassarae. He never had a relationship with them that went beyond the surface level.

Well, he was sure that they probably thought they were quite serious. But he had never been able to do such a thing.

To him, there had only really ever been a single person who understood him. Even his parents didnʼt. Though, an argument could be made for his little sister.

His little sister, though, was still too young. As intelligent as she might be, there were still some complexities of life she couldnʼt perfectly grasp, while Cassarae had seen enough life to be able to do exactly that.

She was the only one who truly understood him. The only person he could be unbridled with.

Maybe that was why he had decided to tell her he loved her even though she had never said it back. He honestly didnʼt need her to.

Quite frankly, he didnʼt care.

Others might think he was insane for saying such a thing. Shouldnʼt you want to know that your wife loved you? Even if you knew, shouldnʼt it be confirmed?

Sylas didnʼt need it to be confirmed, though.

When had he ever been wrong?

This was all to say that when Sylas saw the Duchess, he didnʼt think of things like responsibility, or duty, nor did he feel particularly bad for her either. He didnʼt care to question if she really cared about her status or not-though judging by her more-emotional-than-usual reaction, she certainly did.

She was a useful tool that had suddenly become even more useful than he originally thought.

And that was enough.

The longer Sylas spent ignoring her, and the further into the distance he went, the more fury the Duchess felt.

She had never been so humiliated in her life. Her memories were so clipped and short that it was hard for her to have proof, and yet she knew with certainty that in the life she had spent outside of this cage, she had never been so disrespected before.

How many men wanted to bed her, and yet only Sylas had. How many men would have been willing to marry her to do it, and yet only Sylas didnʼt care. How many men would at least know how to say calm and soothing words to at least make the blow lessen-.

The Duchess suddenly froze, her shaking fists calming considerably. The fury on her expression faded.

What was wrong with her? Where were these emotions coming from?

The way of life of Demons and those of the Real World were polar opposites. They didnʼt feel and interact with emotions the same way.

So why was she feeling things like this?

”Charysm.” The word held a mysterious power when she said it. ”You really are.”

She took a step and vanished. When she appeared again, she was standing on Gogoʼs back right in front of Sylas.

Sylas hardly seemed to react to her appearance, though Gogo seemed particularly unsatisfied with the current state of things.

”How did this world allow you to enter as you are? You are a Demon.”
