Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 787: Chapter 787: Zhang Wenjuan and Wu Bingjie Are Getting Married

As soon as she entered the room, Ye Wenhui whispered in Yunyi’s ear, ”How was your wedding night?”

Yunyi didn’t expect her cousin to be so straightforward and gave her a sidelong glance: ”You’re really curious, aren’t you?”

Ye Wenhui was surprised by Yunyi’s words and started tickling her: ”Let’s see if you still dare to talk nonsense.”

Yunyi was really ticklish, dodging Ye Wenhui’s hands: ”You were the one who asked first, how is this all my fault?”

The two of them laughed and joked around for a while until their cheeks started to ache from laughing so much. They nestled into the sofa to catch their breath for a while.

Ye Wenhui thought about something she heard last night: ”Sis, I’ve got something to tell you.”

Yunyi turned her head to look at her: ”What is it?”

Ye Wenhui cleared her throat and said, ”Zhang Wenjuan and Wu Bingjie are getting married.”

Yunyi was a bit incredulous at this news: ”Really?”

Ye Wenhui nodded slightly: ”A classmate of mine wrote to me about it. How do you think Zhang Wenjuan got in touch with Wu Bingjie?”

Both of them fell silent.

Zhang Wenjuan had previously been sent to a more remote place, and suddenly something clicked in Yunyi’s mind, and she sat up straight: ”Wait, wasn’t Wu Bingjie already married to the accountant’s daughter from Zhang Family Village?”

Ye Wenhui heard Yunyi ask this: ”Oh, don’t even get me started. Wu Bingjie is just no good. Ever since he got the recommendation from the workers, farmers, and soldiers and left, he hasn’t contacted this side. With these mountains and long roads, the accountant’s daughter wanted to find him, but not only does it cost money to go, the main thing is that being unfamiliar with everything there, how could her family feel at ease letting her go?”

Sighing, she continued, ”That guy probably never intended to settle down with her. If it weren’t for the pressure, he probably wouldn’t have agreed to the marriage at all. He just up and left, but the accountant’s daughter never received a letter from him, and under the mental strain, her health kept declining.

Then last month, Wu Bingjie sent back a letter. It’s unclear what was specifically said in it, but just the day after, an incident happened. The accountant’s daughter was knocked down an embankment by a startled ox, got seriously injured, and perhaps with a death wish, she didn’t make it to the hospital in time.”

After listening to Ye Wenhui, Yunyi was full of mixed emotions. Although the girl wasn’t harmed directly by Wu Bingjie, it was all because of him.

But on the other hand, if the accountant’s family hadn’t tried to manipulate and force Wu Bingjie, it might not have ended this way.

Ye Wenhui saw Yunyi remained silent for a long time: ”Alright, let’s not talk about her anymore, don’t want to ruin your mood.”

Then quickly changed the subject: ”Zijia and Qiao Wenyu are coming to Beijing to meet the elders.”

”Qiao Wenyu’s family has relented?”

”Yeah, Qiao Wenyu said his mom has compromised, and they’ll finalize things when they return for the New Year.”

Yunyi looked at Ye Wenhui: ”So how long are you and Zheng Xuewen going to hold out?”

Ye Wenhui sighed, a bit melancholic: ”I don’t want to push him. He said he’ll sort things out with his family, asked me to give him some time.”

Yunyi knew that Ye Wenhui had her own considerations, so she didn’t say more.

After all, Zheng Xuewen’s mom had her own concerns; the key was how he handled it.

However, seeing Zheng Xuewen’s mom’s attitude, even if she married into the family, it would still require some adjustment. Not wanting to upset Ye Wenhui, she changed the subject to studies: ”How’s your studying going lately?”

When it came to this, Ye Wenhui straightened up: ”Sis, it’s been so long without any news, I’m almost losing motivation.”
