Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 346: Chapter 346 Shenanigans

Du Tianming entered the conference room, his mind still in turmoil.

Last night, when he returned home, his wife had run into Political Commissar Guan’s wife. The latter wanted to set her niece up with Deputy Regimental Commander Huo by arranging a meeting disguised as a chance encounter, afraid that a direct setup might lead to awkwardness between the two youngsters.

Initially, he had been reluctant to help. However, when his own son fell sick, it was Political Commissar Guan’s wife who had secured the necessary medicine from her family. Without it, his son might have been left with sequelae.

Huo Jingrui is also of marriageable age, he mused. If there’s some fate between them, perhaps this could solve the issue of him being an older bachelor. If not, it’s no real loss, since it wasn’t specifically arranged as a matchmaking session anyway.

As he was lost in these thoughts, Political Commissar Guan said, ”Tianming, what’s on your mind? You seem so focused.”

Before Du Tianming could respond, Political Commissar Guan continued, ”I just saw that kid Huo Jingrui upstairs. What brought him here?”

Upon hearing this, Du Tianming instantly knew that Political Commissar Guan was unaware of his wife’s schemes. He whispered, ”Sister-in-law wants to introduce her niece to Jingrui.”

Political Commissar Guan was taken aback at first. ”Which sister-in-law?” he then asked.

Hearing this, Du Tianming couldn’t help but laugh. ”Who else could it be? Naturally, it’s Sister-in-law Yuelan. She said she wants to play matchmaker for her niece.”

Political Commissar Guan shot up from his seat. ”Nonsense!”

Du Tianming froze. ”Commissar, they’re both single. What’s wrong with a bit of matchmaking?”

Political Commissar Guan turned and strode out. His face darkened when he looked downstairs and saw no one.

Du Tianming quickly followed him out. ”Commissar, what’s going on?”

Political Commissar Guan turned to Du Tianming. ”Didn’t you ask Jingrui if he was already seeing someone before you helped arrange this?”

Du Tianming was also baffled. ”I haven’t heard anything about him seeing someone.”

Political Commissar Guan pinched the bridge of his nose. ”You took leave to go back to your hometown a while ago, didn’t you? So there are things you don’t know. That case from Ji Province... the young woman who helped us so much, she and that kid Huo Jingrui have already confirmed their romantic relationship. I’m the one who approved their love report.”

Du Tianming slapped his forehead. ”Oh, what a mess I’ve made!”

After saying this, he also looked downstairs but saw no one. I wonder if those two have even met yet, he thought.

Only then did Political Commissar Guan recall what his wife had said that morning. If she had just told him directly, this whole blunder wouldn’t have happened! If Huo Jingrui’s girlfriend found out, how awkward would things become in the future?

Seeing that the meeting time was approaching, he said, ”Never mind. Let’s start the meeting first. We’ll explain when we see them after it ends.”

Feng Ruyan’s two legs were no match for Huo Jingrui’s four wheels. After failing to catch up, she dejectedly walked back. He might still return, she thought, deciding to wait for him there, hoping for a lucky break.

Not long after Huo Jingrui had left, he ran into Fu Chenyi on the street. Fu Chenyi, who had just returned to the Capital, asked, ”Where are you headed?”

Fu Chenyi smiled at Huo Jingrui. ”Well, well, Mr. Busy. How come you have time to be out and about today?”

Huo Jingrui replied in a deep voice, ”I had some things to take care of. Where are you going? I can give you a lift.”

Fu Chenyi was feeling too lazy to walk; he would have driven if it hadn’t been such a short distance. ”To the Friendship Store,” he said. ”You can just drop me off nearby.”

Huo Jingrui laughed. ”Perfect, that’s on my way. I’m heading there too.”

Chatting as they went, they soon arrived at their destination. Both men got out of the car and entered the Friendship Store together.

Fu Chenyi was clearly a regular here. As soon as he walked in, someone greeted him, ”Mr. Fu, your items are ready. Would you like to take them now, or shall we deliver them to your specified location?”
