Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 329: Chapter 329: Many Friends, Many Paths

Hua’an Farm Reclamation was bustling today. Several trucks arrived in the morning, claiming they were delivering props for a film shoot.

When Yunyi went to the cafeteria for lunch, everyone was discussing this.

Ye Wenhui approached and whispered in Yunyi’s ear, ”Yunyi, Qiao Wenyu said they still need some extras, eight mao a day. Do you think I should give it a try?”

After all, with the heavy snow today, work at the reservoir had temporarily stopped, leaving them idle.

Yunyi smiled at Ye Wenhui. ”If you want to go, then go. But I must warn you, being an extra in this weather isn’t easy. You’ll have to be mentally prepared for the freezing cold alone.”

Ye Wenhui glanced outside. The thought of standing and freezing in the snowy landscape made her shiver. Then I’ll think about it some more. I don’t want to end up earning nothing and possibly getting sick on top of it.

After finishing their meals, the two left the cafeteria together.

Yunyi looked at Ye Wenhui. ”Do you want to come and sit at my place for a while?”

Thinking that returning to the dormitory meant facing Ye Wenjuan, Ye Wenhui nodded. Okay, it’s good that you’ll take me in.

Thinking about what Ye Wenjuan had done these past few days, she couldn’t help complaining to Yunyi, ”My younger aunt is really something. She just up and left, after telling me to look after Ye Wenjuan more. Ye Wenjuan always pulls a long face, and her words are constantly dripping with insinuation. If I could find someone to switch dorms with, I would’ve moved far away from her ages ago. She’s really annoying.”

Hearing Ye Wenhui’s words, Yunyi suddenly remembered the girl from a few days ago. ”Do you really want to change dorms?” she asked.

Ye Wenhui nodded vigorously. ”Yes, absolutely! I never wanted to come to the countryside with Ye Wenjuan in the first place. It was only because she saw no hope of staying in the city that my younger aunt pulled some strings to get her assigned with me.”

Ye Wenhui had long considered Yunyi a close friend, so she didn’t hide Ye Wenjuan’s actions from her. She even told Yunyi how Ye Wenjuan had snatched their cousin Ye Wenyue’s spot in the cultural troupe.

Yunyi hadn’t expected Ye Wenjuan to be so selfish, resorting to any means necessary to achieve her goals. Had she ever considered how awkward it would be if the truth came out, or how she would face her family then?

Just as the two reached the entrance of the health clinic, they heard someone shouting from a distance, ”Yunyi!”

Yunyi turned around and saw Ning Junlan braving the snow. ”Aunt Ning, what brings you here?”

Ning Junlan looked somewhat embarrassed. ”I need your help.” Then, she glanced toward the jeep parked not far away. ”Could we step aside to talk?”

Yunyi followed her gaze toward the jeep. ”If you don’t mind, let’s talk at my place.”

Seeing that there was a man in the car, Yunyi grabbed Ye Wenhui, who was about to leave. ”You come with me too.”

Ning Junlan hurried towards the jeep.

Meanwhile, Yunyi said to Ye Wenhui, ”I’m going to inform Doctor Qiu.”

By the time Ning Junlan returned with the man, Yunyi had also come out of the health clinic.

They nodded at each other in greeting and headed toward the small courtyard in the back.

Kong Jiaqiao, on her way from the cafeteria, happened to witness this. She stared at their retreating backs until they disappeared around the corner, then, pursing her lips disdainfully, she entered the health clinic.

Leading them to her quarters, Yunyi said, ”Please sit. I’ll go make a pot of tea.”

She offered them tea she had brought from her home in Beijing. ”It’s very cold today. Please have some tea to warm yourselves up first.”

Ning Junlan began the introduction, ”Young Master Fu, this is Chuyunyi. She’s the one who helped repair that fan.”

Then, addressing Yunyi, she said, ”Yunyi, this is Fu Chenyi, Young Master Fu. I’ll be direct: he has a double-sided embroidered screen that is severely damaged. He’s been searching for someone who can repair it. Upon seeing that fan, he eagerly brought the screen here, hoping you could help repair it.”

Yunyi had initially thought Ning Junlan brought someone over because she wanted her to embroider something new, not to repair an existing piece.

Seeing that Yunyi didn’t immediately agree, Fu Chenyi said, ”Comrade Chu, as long as the screen can be fully restored, remuneration will not be an issue.”

Perhaps fearing his offer wasn’t sufficient, he added, ”Consider this a personal favor from me, Fu. And let this also be an opportunity for us to become friends.”

Yunyi could tell from Fu Chenyi’s entire demeanor that he was no ordinary person. Having another friend meant another connection, and besides, this wasn’t a difficult task for her. ”Have you brought the item?” she asked.

Fu Chenyi nodded. ”It’s in the car. I’ll go get it now.”
