Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 303: Chapter 303: My Cousin, Gui Kairong

Ye Wenhui took the next day off specifically to accompany Shi Jingfang around Hua’an Farm Reclamation.

Around noon, the mother and daughter strolled to the health clinic. ”Yunyi, are you finished with your work?”

Yunyi, who was in the middle of writing a case history, replied, ”Wait for me a moment, I’ll be done very soon.”

Once she finished her work and changed her clothes, the three of them headed to the state-run restaurant, laughing and talking along the way.

Ye Wenhui remembered the news she had heard that day. ”Mom, Wenjuan is probably coming back in the next few days.”

Shi Jingfang had already inquired with the attending physician the day before. ”Your little aunt probably won’t be able to stay for many days. We’ll see how the regiment arranges things. You should take more care of your cousin. Regardless, you must show respect to your little uncle and Second Grandfather. However, if she’s being unreasonable and causing trouble, you don’t have to put up with it.”

Ye Wenhui nodded. ”I understand.”

When the three of them arrived at the state-run restaurant, they saw Chief Qiao with several comrades they didn’t recognize, sitting and talking at a table further inside.

Yunyi glanced over just as Chief Qiao also looked in her direction.

Yunyi politely nodded at him and was about to find a nearby place to sit when she noticed Chief Qiao beckoning her over.

Shi Jingfang had met Chief Qiao before. Seeing many people at his table, she didn’t go over with Yunyi. ”You go say hello,” she said. ”Wenhui and I will go order.”

Yunyi nodded and walked over with a smile. ”Qiao Tuan.”

Qiao Shaoguo pointed to a man sitting with them. ”My cousin, Gui Kairong.”

Then he gestured towards Yunyi. ”This is the Comrade Chu I told you about.”

Gui Kairong stood up with a smile. ”Comrade Chu, my cousin told me about what happened on the mountain. I really want to thank you.”

His words were somewhat vague; he didn’t mention Qiao Wenyu by name, but Yunyi understood. ”It was everyone’s effort,” she replied.

Gui Kairong hadn’t expected his cousin to know such a refreshingly elegant beauty. ”Comrade Chu,” he invited, ”please sit down and have a meal with us as a token of our gratitude.”

Yunyi smiled and declined. ”There’s no need. I’ve come with friends, and I wouldn’t want to disturb your gathering.”

She then nodded and smiled at everyone present. ”I’ll head over to my table then. Enjoy your meal.”

As Yunyi turned to leave, Gui Kairong watched her for a long moment before finally looking away. ”Cousin,” he said to Qiao Shaoguo, ”let’s consider it settled then.”

Qiao Shaoguo laughed. ”Your approval document has already arrived, so why stand on ceremony with me? Besides, this isn’t a bad thing for us either.”

Meanwhile, as soon as Yunyi sat down, Ye Wenhui leaned in. ”Yunyi, who are those people?”

Yunyi shook her head. ”I’m not sure, but the man in the blue Sun Yat-sen suit is Qiao Tuan’s cousin.”

Ye Wenhui, curious, asked, ”Then why did he call you over?”

Shi Jingfang playfully tapped her daughter’s arm. ”Such a curious cat!”

Yunyi laughed. ”I helped Qiao Wenyu before. That man is Qiao Wenyu’s maternal uncle, just being polite and expressing his thanks.”

Ye Wenhui didn’t quite understand but didn’t press further.

Soon, their food was ready. The waitress called out, ”White Meat and Blood Sausage, Quick-fried Pork Slices! Come and get your dishes!”

Ye Wenhui stood up with a smile. ”That was quick.”

Seeing her stand up, Yunyi also got up. ”Aunt Fang, you stay seated. Sister Wenhui and I will get the dishes.”

Shi Jingfang watched Yunyi’s confident and gracious demeanor, feeling happy for her sister; this child was clearly well-raised. ”Alright,” she agreed.

They each carried a dish back to the table. Ye Wenhui laughed, ”There’s still the spicy stir-fried shredded potatoes and white cabbage tofu soup.”

Just then, the waitress called out again, ”The rice is ready! Come and get it.”

The two of them put down the dishes, then turned and brought over the rice.

Yunyi looked at the food on the table. ”Aunt Fang, the portions here are quite large. Did we order too much?”
