Beast Taming: the More the Better

Chapter 204: Chapter 140: The Laboratory! Reigniting the Research on Nicotiana lupulina!

In the darkness of night, at the heart of Linzhou City, on the thirty-second floor of a skyscraper by the window, a man supported his chin with his hand. He gazed at the night view of Linzhou City without a trace of appreciation in his eyes, displaying instead weariness and impatience.

After checking his watch countless times, just as he was about to lose his patience and make a phone call, at last, the distinct CLACK, CLACK, CLACK of high heels approached from outside the private room.

The door to the room was pushed open, and Dong Muyun’s figure appeared.

The man finally spoke. ”Three hours ago was our agreed time, right? In other words, Dong Muyun, you are a full three hours late!”

Dong Muyun was unfazed, not even bothering with a perfunctory apology. She simply shrugged. ”Something came up unexpectedly.”

”What could possibly be more important than my affairs?”

Dong Muyun sat down, crossed one leg casually over the other, and said, ”Much more important than your business, Dong Mutian. If you’ve got something to say, spit it out. I don’t have time to play guessing games with you here.”

The man looked at his sister, who hadn’t changed over the many years, and the impatience and irritation on his face surprisingly vanished. He said, ”Father’s orders. I’ve come to temporarily take over two subsidiaries under Tianyun Group: Tianyun Real Estate and Mirror Sky Entertainment.”

”What?” Dong Muyun raised her eyebrows in disbelief, looking at Dong Mutian. She asked, ”Are these Father’s orders?”

”You can call and ask!”

Dong Muyun’s brows furrowed. Right in front of Dong Mutian, she made the call.

”Dad?”

”Has your brother arrived?”

The voice on the phone, along with its words, clearly confirmed Dong Mutian’s claims.

Yet Dong Muyun found it even harder to understand. She asked, ”Dad, what does this mean? Haven’t I been managing Tianyun all this time?”

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line. After about a dozen breaths, a muffled voice continued, ”Muyun, the family is preparing to focus all its efforts on developing Tianyun Group. Other areas will make way for now. Tianyun Group is so vast, and it’s just the right time for Mutian to help you share some of the burden. Besides, real estate and entertainment aren’t our main industries...”

Dong Muyun’s fox-like eyes narrowed. She nodded decisively and said, ”Fine, I get it...”

She didn’t wait for a response, hanging up abruptly to vent her dissatisfaction.

Then, under Dong Mutian’s amused gaze, she settled back into her seat, resuming her pose with one leg casually crossed over the other.

”Asked him already?” Dong Mutian said. ”Over the past few years, the group’s financial reports haven’t just failed to improve; they’ve shown losses. The real estate side has lost over a hundred million on the Crescent Lake construction and that Yuntian Resort. Father has long been dissatisfied...”

Looking at her smug, good-for-nothing brother, Dong Muyun scoffed disdainfully. She retorted, ”Problems with the Legion? Kicked out, were you?”

At this, Dong Mutian’s face darkened.

Dong Muyun huffed and said, ”Do you know why you’ll never be the true heir in Father’s and the family’s hearts? Dong Mutian, even without Dong Muxuan, and with me here, the ambitions you and your dead mother harbor—to truly head the Dong Family and take over—will never happen in this lifetime! It’s because you’re such a worthless good-for-nothing.”

BOOM!

The table in front of them was sent flying by an explosive burst of spiritual power.

Dong Mutian abruptly stood up, staring intently at the woman before him.

Dong Muyun, however, didn’t seem to care in the slightest. Instead, she laughed and said, ”Alright, alright, as if I don’t know your capabilities. Enough of the show. It seems the pressure this time was really significant for a complete waste of the family like you to be driven out of the Legion.”

With that, Dong Muyun slowly rose, waved her hand, and walked straight out of the private room.

Reaching the doorway, she seemed to remember something. She turned her head back to Dong Mutian and said, ”Come to the group’s headquarters tomorrow. I’ll have someone show you how to take over the real estate and entertainment companies...”

After leaving these words behind, Dong Muyun’s figure finally disappeared from the private room, leaving Dong Mutian, whose expression had turned a slight shade more pleasant.

He really hadn’t expected Dong Muyun to be so accommodating, handing over the management rights of the two companies to him just like that?

But who knew if there was some other trick up her sleeve.

Indeed, that was the case. As soon as Dong Muyun stepped out of the room, her previously breezy demeanor vanished, her face turning extremely grim.

The company she took over at sixteen, building it up step by step to its current state—was she really going to hand it over to someone else?

What had the family said back then?

Her eldest brother, Dong Mutian, was to strive within the Legion, carving out influence within the official power structures of the Dragon Nation. Dong Muyun was responsible for the entire family’s commercial ventures. Although she had leveraged the family’s connections and power, consolidating those myriad small shops and subsidiaries into the behemoth that Tianyun Group had become was a feat that had cost her unimaginable effort and youth. As for Dong Muxuan, over a decade younger than his siblings, he was still studying at the Magic Capital Advanced Beast-Taming Academy.

Looking at it now, the family’s situation was indeed not good.

At this thought, Dong Muyun’s expression slowly returned to coldness. That person, over the past few years, had brought the suppression of Families to an extreme. Before this, the Dong Family’s status and influence had been Dong Muyun’s greatest support and strength.
