Chapter 1938: Lost Her

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

“Indeed, we’ve talked to Boss Liu before. If the Central Guards Brigade uses this thing, they can compete with Meiguo on the island.”

“Based on what you’re saying, if Meiguo obtains this thing, they will be unmatched on the island.”

“Of course,” Qiu Yuluo said.

“Otherwise, they wouldn’t have packed it so tightly. If something goes wrong, it will be a huge loss for us.”

Lin Yi put the medicine into the box and played with it for a while.

“They really put in a lot of effort to make such an exquisite packaging.” Lin Yi smiled.

“Let’s not talk about serum for now. The box itself is probably worth a lot of money.”

“Fireproof, waterproof, and explosion-proof. I heard that this little thing is worth more than 100,000 yuan,” Qiu Yuluo said.

“How did the higher-ups arrange this? What do they want me to do?”

“You guys will be in charge of the research and development of the gene sequence. The brigade will handle the other aspects.” Qiu Yuluo picked up a piece of fish and said.

“But for the time being, I’ll stay and cooperate with you.”

“Cooperate?”

“The international drug research and development center in Zhonghai is full of foreign experts. We have to use our own people. I’m mainly in charge of security to ensure that the final research and development data will not be lost.”

“You don’t have to worry about that. I’ll take the lead.”

“You’re taking the lead?” Qiu Yuluo looked at Lin Yi in surprise. “I know you used to be a doctor, but do you also understand pharmacology?”

“I know a bit,” Lin Yi said.

“I can’t claim to be an expert, but I can help out.”

“That makes things easier,” Qiu Yuluo said.

“If you handle this, it’ll be much more convenient.”

Lin Yi nodded. “Has the unit made any progress with the drug research? No results at all?”

Qiu Yuluo shrugged. “They’ve only identified it as a C-class drug. The rest is still under investigation.”

Lin Yi pursed his lips, feeling the research was progressing slower than he had hoped.

“Alright, we’ve had enough to eat. Let’s pay the bill and leave.”

“Why rush? The food here is pretty good, let’s have some more.”

“I need to visit the garrison district. I need their cooperation for these matters; I can’t handle it alone,” Qiu Yuluo said.

“It’s almost two o’clock. It’s impolite to visit the old commander too late.”

“Alright then, I’ll take the stuff with me and study it,” Lin Yi said.

“When you go to the research institute, don’t reveal your identity. Just mention my name, and they’ll cooperate.”

“Got it.” Qiu Yuluo didn’t say much else, feeling confident with Lin Yi handling things.

After their meal, Qiu Yuluo took a cab, and Lin Yi returned to the precinct.

On the way back, Lin Yi received a call from Gao Zongyuan, who informed him that Ji Qingyan had moved out of Jiuzhou Pavilion.

Lin Yi wasn’t surprised by this news.

After hanging up, Lin Yi turned his car around and, instead of returning to the precinct, he headed home.

He didn’t know why but felt an urge to go back.

Returning to Jiuzhou Pavilion, the courtyard was lush with greenery. The overgrown branches and leaves, not yet pruned, added a touch of disorder.

He entered the house using his fingerprint.

Even though Ji Qingyan had left, a faint fragrance lingered in the air.

It was as if she hadn’t really gone.

Upstairs, he found every room neat and tidy, though Ji Qingyan’s personal items were all gone.

Her walk-in closet was particularly empty, though his clothes were still neatly arranged.

Only the strands of hair left behind proved she had ever been there.

Back downstairs, Lin Yi sat on the sofa, closing his eyes.

It felt like he was the last person in the world.

Time flowed like water, never stopping, and it seemed as if nothing in the world was worth its attention.

The fiery sunset disappeared beyond the horizon, and as the last rays vanished, the starry sky revealed its true colors, twinkling like bright eyes, watching over the troubled souls below.

Jiuzhou Pavilion was pitch-black at night. The lights in the courtyard were not switched on, and it was the same in the house.

Lin Yi, who was on the sofa, was swallowed by the darkness, as if he had fused with it.

Ring ring ring!

Caught off guard, the phone in his pocket rang, cutting through the dark curtain like a sharp knife.

It pulled Lin Yi back from the grayish-black world to the heartless reality.

He picked up his phone and realized that the caller was Gao Zongyuan, so he threw it aside.

The phone rang a few times before hanging up automatically. However, very quickly, the phone rang again. This time, it was Qin Han.

Lin Yi frowned but didn’t answer it.

However, a few seconds after the call ended, it rang again. This time, it was a call from Liang Jinming.

“What are you guys doing?”

Cursing, Lin Yi picked up the phone impatiently.

But before Lin Yi could say anything, Liang Jinming spoke.

“Is President Ji with you?”

“Huh??” Lin Yi was stunned for a while. “Use your brain. How could she be with me?”

“That’s strange. He Yuanyuan invited her out for a meal. We’ve been waiting here for more than an hour, but we haven’t seen her. Moreover, I couldn’t get through to her on the phone. I thought the two of you were together.”

“Can’t get through to her?” Lin Yi paused. “When did she leave the house?”

“About an hour and a half ago. She called her to say she had left the office, but she hasn’t come over yet.”

Lin Yi narrowed his eyes like a cobra in the night.

“Where are you now?”

“Shenghe Hall.” Liang Jinming said, “It’s the hotpot restaurant on Chunsheng Road. We’ve had it once before.”

Lin Yi had some impression of Shenghe Hall. It wasn’t far from Chaoyang Group.

Even if it was rush hour, it would only take 40 minutes to get there by car. This would not explain the hour-and-a-half time period.

Where did Ji Qingyan during rest of this time?

“Have you called her home and company?”

“I’ve already called them, but they all said that she wasn’t around, so we called you. We thought that you had settled things with her.”

“Alright, I understand. I’ll call you back later.”

After hanging up, Lin Yi’s frown deepened.

With Ji Qingyan’s personality, she would definitely notify him in advance if something were to happen. She would not be so quiet.

And he couldn’t even get through to her on the phone.

Ring ring ring!

Just as Lin Yi was frowning, his phone rang again. This time, it was Mo Hongshan.

Lin Yi didn’t think too much about it. He thought that the other party was calling him to talk about the gene serum.

“Brother Shan.”

“Where are you? Our men have lost President Ji.”
