“Seriously, that look on your face reminds me of my college roommate.”

“Is it because I’ve changed into a new suit and I look younger?”

“Not quite. When my roommate watches action movies, he gets the same excited expression as you—left hand accelerating, right hand fast-forwarding —as if he’s reached a state of unity with the heavens.”

“Indeed, President Lin, we’re all kindred spirits.”

“Alright, cut it out. You’re making it sound like we’re about to overthrow a dynasty.” Lin Yi interjected.

“So, what’s the matter?”

“I’ve invited many celebrities to this party and they’ve already checked into the hotel. However, the managers of several female celebrities came to look for me. President Lin, guess what happened?”

“I can’t guess.”

“They seem to have ulterior motives. They asked me about you indirectly. From my experience, those female celebrities seem to have certain thoughts about you.”

At this point, Wang Tianlong chuckled, looking extremely disgusting.

“How is it, President Lin? Do you share the same thoughts? I’m willing to take the lead and help you pass a message.”

“You have to know that this annual party tonight was prepared by Lingyun Group and Chaoyang Group together. My girlfriend will also be coming. Are you sure you want to help me pull these strings?”

Wang Tianlong revealed a knowing expression.

“As the saying goes, ‘While the red flag flies at home, the colorful flags flutter outside.’ As a successful person, one shouldn’t lead a monotonous life. Whenever there’s an opportunity, seize it. And if there isn’t one, create it and seize it anyway.”

Lin Yi patted Wang Tianlong’s shoulder and said earnestly,

“There’s a vacant seat for general manager in the company. I’ll recommend you. It’s been hard on you to remain a manager in a hotel.”

Lin Yi really felt that Wang Tianlong was a f*cking talent.

When others were sucking up to him, Lin Yi didn’t even take them seriously and dismissed them.

However, Wang Tianlong was different. Listening to his flattery was more comfortable than being given a happy ending massage. His mood improved grealy.

“Thank you for your kind intentions, President Lin. It’s my honor to work under you. Just buy me a meal. I don’t ask for more in return.”

This was so nice.

“Forget about the female celebrities, they’re hard to handle when they cling onto you,” Lin Yi said.

“But 1 can lend you the title of president of Lingyun Group. You can use it to fool others. The results will still depend on your own ability though.”

“No, no, no. With my image, I’m really not suitable for this.”

“Then don’t talk nonsense. Get ready. You all have to go on stage later.”

“Got it, President Lin.”

After Wang Tianlong left, Lin Yi had nothing to do and prepared to enter the venue.

However, before he could take a few steps, he saw Yan Ci walking out of the elevator.

The weather was warmer, and Yan Ci’s clothes were much looser.

The black tailcoat skirt with a cinched waist design gave her a sharp edge to her demeanor, while softening her overall look.

At the same time, Yan Ci also saw Lin Yi and a smile bloomed on her face.

“You’re a busy man. Why are you here?”

“Ultimately, this is the company’s annual meeting. Even if 1 don’t go on stage, I have to come and attend it.”

Yan Ci looked at Lin Yi mysteriously. “Today’s annual meeting is held by your company and Chaoyang Group. If 1 remember correctly, the president of Chaoyang Group should be your girlfriend, right?”

“Clever.”

“Cough, cough, cough…”

Yan Ci pretended to be calm and coughed a few times. “Then 1 have to keep a distance from you. If the first wife sees this, it won’t be good.”

“Don’t say those useless things.” Lin Yi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

“She hasn’t gotten off work yet. She won’t be here until later.”

“If you had told me earlier, I wouldn’t have worried so much.”

“Where are you going? Aren’t you in charge of tonight’s event?”

“Anyway, I’ve gained some recognition now, and our company has dedicated personnel for such matters,” Yan Ci said.

“If it weren’t for your company’s event, 1 wouldn’t have come today.”

“Well, thank you very much,” Lin Yi said with a smile. “Are you leaving now?”

“No,” Yan Ci replied.

“I heard from someone that there’s a famous shop near the hotel that sells glutinous rice cakes. I’d like to buy some. Do you know where it is? Want to come with me?”

“Let’s go.”

Ji Qingyan also liked to eat this kind of food. Lin Yi often bought it for her, so he was quite familiar with the shop and arrived in a few minutes.

The small shop was in an alley in the back street. It was not big and was operated by an old couple.

“Young man, you’re here again.”

Because he often came here to buy from them, Lin Yi had become a regular here and was very familiar with the old couple.

Lin Yi smiled and nodded, looking at the display window.

“Why is there so little left?”

The elderly couple sold glutinous rice cakes in five flavors, but now only strawberry and jujube were left, and there aren’t many of them either.

“You’re too late.” The old man said.

“Don’t you have my number? If you want to eat anything next time, give me a call in advance and I’ll save it for you.”

“Sure thing.”

Lin Yi looked around and saw that there weren’t many items left. He was prepared to buy them all, and the couple could then close their stall.

“I want every…”

“Why are there so few left?”

Before Lin Yi could finish speaking, a tall girl rushed over.

The girl was wearing a mask, sunglasses, and a baseball cap, covering her face tightly.

This reminded Lin Yi of the man in black, and he felt a sense of dejavu.

“This is considered good. Usually, we would be sold out by this time,” the old man said politely.

“Hehe, I’ve heard about your delicious treats for a long time. I’ve seen them many times on TikTok, so I came specifically to buy some today. Please pack them up for me and let me know the total,” the girl replied.

With that, the girl handed over loo yuan.

At this time, there were not many people who bought things with cash.

“Can you not do that, young lady?” The old man said.

“This young man came first. 1 can’t it to you.”

The tall girl glanced at Lin Yi. “How much did he buy? 1 want the rest.”

“I’m taking it all.”

“Huh?” The tall girl was stunned. “Are you doing this on purpose?”

“What does me buying something have to do with you?”

The tall girl ignored Lin Yi and said to the old man,

“Although he came first, they should sell it to me since I gave you the money first.”

The tall girl did not want to talk about morals anymore.

She had spent so much effort to come all the way from Yanjing just to have a bite of their glutinous rice cake. He didn’t want to miss it.

“Well…”

The old man stammered, not knowing what to do.

From the looks of it, the old man was someone who cared about the fairer sex.

Because she was a girl, he was too embarrassed to reject her.

“Why don’t we give it to her? I’ll buy it another day,” Yan Ci said.

“Why another day?” Lin Yi said, “I came first, so of course I get to buy it first..”
