Chapter 280 Has There Ever Been Any Demon Species That Survived Thanks to Promises?

“Carefree life? What a joke,” said Liu Qiyue coldly. “How is it a joke?” The black-robed illusory figure smiled. “Do you insist on dying in battle, including your family and children? Is that good?”

Meng Chuan looked at him. “Do you think you demon monarchs are able to kill us?” The black-robed illusory figure laughed. “The demons can send an unending number of forces into the human world with fifth Firmament greater demon monarchs and even demon sages. The forces that enter this world will only grow stronger. Your Creation Supremacies have to bow their heads obediently or they will die without a doubt. Why are you Marquis Godfiends so stubborn? We demons do not need you to submit now.

“You can continue to be heroes among humans, as long as you reveal some information secretly. When the war outcome becomes irreversible, and humanity’s loss becomes inevitable, it will not be too late for you to surrender. Of course, you have to provide intelligence first. If you don’t contribute at all, we demons won’t accept you even if you wish to surrender in the future,” said the illusory black-robed figure with a smile. “You don’t lose anything in this case. All you need to do is secretly reveal some information. There are many Godfiends doing this. One more doesn’t matter. You have a backup plan for yourself, your family, and clansmen. Isn’t that nice?”

Meng Chuan shook his head gently. “I don’t think it’s nice.”

“In the future, humans promised territory will be small-only ten percent of the human world. However, at the very least, you will be able to reproduce and survive. Your family and clansmen can continue generation after generation. You can also live a carefree life. Isn’t that great?” said the black-robed illusory figure. “Whether your descendants follow the Skydemon cultivation system or the Godfiend cultivation system, how does that relate to you? If you switch to another cultivation system, you will also have a very long lifespan. Are you going to drag countless people down with you just to continue the Godfiend cultivation system legacy?

“How nice it would be to give up the Godfiend cultivation system and live happily with countless people,” said the black-robed illusory figure. It was only an embodiment, and it didn’t have any bewitching powers. It was also aware that such bewitching powers could only affect Marquis and Regis Godfiends for a short period of time.

If he wanted them to join the demons, the Marquis and Regis Godfiends had to agree of their own accord.

“As long as you secretly leak the information, no one will be able to detect it. Even us demons won’t have any evidence to accuse you,” said the black-robed illusory figure. “If a miracle really happens and the humans will win, nobody will know about you leaking information as long as you keep your mouth shut. We demons will not be able to accuse you either. Even if we do… the humans will not believe it either.

“If you advance, you will enjoy glory within the human race. If you retreat, you will rule over countless mortals in the humans’ assigned territory in the future. You will be able to live the life of an exalted one. Marquis Eastcalm, Marchioness Calmmoon, you have to consider it seriously. It’s not only for you but also for your children.”

“The method of leaking information is very simple. Use a Bewitching Art and control a mortal to deliver information. That mortal will not be able to reveal that you were the one who leaked the information. Leave behind a secret mark that we agree upon. We demons only need to know that it’s from the two of you,” said the illusory black-robed figure gently. Meng Chuan said wistfully, “The fear of death is a common trait of humans. I’m afraid Godfiends will truly divulge information to you as a result.”

The illusory black-robed figure nodded with a smile. “Yes, there is quite the number.”

“But the so-called promise, the promise engraved on the Sacred Monument, is a joke.” Meng Chuan sneered at him.

“Joke? The Demon Sacred Monument is an extremely important object for us demons. The Imperial Lords personally engraved the promise on the Demon Sacred Monument. If they don’t fulfill the promise, the Imperial Lords will be mocked by the world. No demon will believe them in the future,” said the illusory black-robed figure.

Meng Chuan shook his head and said, “According to what I know, the demons are divided into many races-wolves, bears, tigers, etc. Which one of these demons survived through promises?”

The illusionary figure in the black robe was stunned.

“In the Demon Realm, the strong prey on the weak,” said Meng Chuan, “Only by relying on strength can one survive. To appease the humans, the demons have promised that humans will be one of the demons’ Hundred Races. However, if you really occupy this world in the future, will the other demons spare humans?” Meng Chuan shook his head.

“The Imperial Lord carved it on the Sacred Monument…” the illusory black-robed figure continued.

“Haha, the Imperial Lords might not go against their promises, but what about future Imperial Lords?” Meng Chuan continued, “According to what I know, it’s common for Imperial Lords to kill other Imperial Lords. Even Imperial Lords can kill each other, so why would they care about the promise on a Sacred Monument left behind by other Imperial Lords?”

The black-robed illusory figure looked at Meng Chuan and said softly, “Marquis Eastcalm, you are indeed impressive. Yes, the demons revere the strong. Future Imperial Lords might not continue to abide by the promise engraved on the Sacred Monument erected by a former Imperial Lord. However, Imperial Lords live for 10,000 years! Humans will have thousands of years to develop well. I believe that humans can also give birth to a group of Skydemon experts. This way, they can be ranked among the hundred races through their strength.”

“The Skydemon cultivation system?” Meng Chuan scoffed. “The Skydemon cultivation system is weaker than the demon monarch system. The highest realm one can reach is the fifth Firmament Skydemon realm. Any random demon sage can destroy all of humanity. How is humanity to stand equal with the other demons?”

“Skydemons can also reach the demon sage realm,” said the illusory black-robed figure.

Meng Chuan shook his head. “It’s just a theoretical pie in the sky. Has anyone achieved it?”

“Marquis Eastcalm, the Imperial Lords’ promise ensures at least a few thousand years of peace. Regis Godfiends only live for 500 years,” said the illusory black-robed figure. “All of you will be able to live a stable life. It will be the case even for 100 generations. If that’s the case, why care about what will happen in thousands of years?”

“Perhaps a new demon Imperial Lord arises the moment the Godfiends surrender,” said Meng Chuan with a chuckle. “Once the new Imperial Lord gives the order, humans will be completely wiped out. The other three Imperial Lords can say that it’s an order from the new Imperial Lord, so they aren’t able to stop him.”

“Imperial Lords need to uphold their reputations as well,” the illusory black-robed figure said.“You want me to place all of humanity’s hopes of survival on a demon Imperial Lord’s reputation?” Meng Chuan scoffed. “Besides, this is us humans’ world. Our home. Why do we have to give control of our world over to the demons?”

The illusory black-robed figure shook his head gently. “Marquis Eastcalm, think more about your clansmen. It’s just a backup plan.

“A territory that is only ten percent of the human world.” Meng Chuan said wistfully, “The promised territory will shrink greatly. The people who originally lived in the world will probably become food for the demons. Humans will be devoured. Only the Skydemon Sect and some cowardly Godfiend traitors will lead their family members to live an abject life in the remaining territory, relying on an Imperial Lord’s so-called promise to protect them. This is like a dog’s life. Godfiends would rather die than be the dogs of demons.” Meng Chuan looked at the illusory figure.

Liu Qiyue stood beside Meng Chuan and was equally determined.

“What… is the point?” The black-robed figure shook his head gently.

“Don’t worry. The demons won’t win this war. We humans will definitely win.” Meng Chuan looked at him. “All the invading demons will die!”

“Haha. Marquis Eastcalm, have you taken a close look at the human forces’ strength?” The black-robed illusory figure laughed. “As a Marquis Godfiend, don’t you have any basic knowledge of the war’s situation?” “We will definitely win the war,” said Meng Chuan calmly. “Besides, we humans will not forget the blood debt you demons have incurred. One day, you demons will have to pay with blood.”

“Pay with blood? Who can do so? You?” The illusory black-robed figure laughed. “Marquis Eastcalm, you are blind. Perhaps you will understand the situation better in a few days. I’ll pay you a visit when the time comes.” With that said, the illusory figure dissipated.
